  1. I've been here before and was highly satisfied. I have changed my mind. The wait staff is mostly male now and slower than a turtle! I waited 1 hour to get my check. My 3 year old was tired and so was my 60-year old father. The food was o.k not as good as what it used to be. I ordered the Bandeja Tipica (fried pork skin, rice&beans, plantano, steak, egg & avocado). Id rather go to Seba Seba in Jackson Heights worth the drive for better service….even if they only speak Español!

  2. As a man married to a Dominican woman this place is only okay. I can get better food any night I want and if I wasn't here for my nephew's birthday I would not come back. The food wasn't horrible, but it's not great. Expensive for some plates and reasonable for others. I guess it depends on what you want to have.

  3. This place is okay. I prefer the pollos mario in jackson heighta on 37th street. This place is big and the staff is quite friendly. However, terrible parking lot and the area is kinda shady as well. Go only during the day time.

  4. I've been going to this restaurant for several years now. I've never been disappointed with their food, or service. In fact, I've noticed that they have kept their food standards very high throughout the years, which is why I keep going back. My only reservation is the area…it's a tough neighborhood and I tend to stay away at night. Anyway, I've ordered several dishes, but my absolute favorite is the Asopado.
Asopado – (5/5) Okay, so I need to tell you that I am a protein fanatic. My favorite, however, is seafood protein. At $27.50 it may sound costly, but the serving size and portion of seafood is extremely generous. It includes lobster claws, an entire crab, several fish fillets, three or four shrimp, two or three clams, and lots of calamari. The dish also comes with a side salad, rice, and french fries. The broth is so savory that I visualize unicorns running through marigold fields with a rainbow backdrop as I eat it. Believe it or not, even the rice has such a unique taste you'll want more. The french fries? Ehhhhhhh.
Ambiance/Service – (5/5) The establishment is always clean. I mean, I've never seen their driveway/parking lot, waiting area, eating area, or bathroom in need of cleaning. They're always on top of things. The interior has the appearance of a typical villa. The music is always spanish, so it keeps the mood upbeat. Servers are friendly and attentive.
Bottom line: Go there, and do it often….but before sunset.

  5. Saturday night and we were in the mood for a casual dining experience with a seafood option, and not too far from Westbury.  We were also seeking out a place that offered reasonable prices and were in no mood to wait an hour and a half at Red Lobster.  So a little yelping led us here.  I'd driven past this large restaurant many times as I used to work in the Garden City area.  This was our first visit to Pollos Mario, and for the most part it was very good.  We got immediate seating in the airy-feeling restaurant.  Its a comfortable, jeans-y place. Looking around we saw couples and lots of families with children.
Now, I am somewhat familiar with Latino cuisine, but it is extremely helpful to have the photographs of the items presented in the menu for novices.  I was planning on eating Rotisserie Chicken, but the manager came over and informed me they ran out, and I would need to select another entree. I was not convinced they really ran out, but ok fine…. I wasn't going to let that ruin our night so I said ok, let me have what the wife is having.. Shrimp in Garlic sauce.  "No problem sir, We apologize" she tells me.  Fifteen minutes later our food arrives. We  also had requested Maduros (sweet plantain) instead of french fries and they gave us ONE each? That's stingy if you ask me.  The food itself was very tasty. Flavors were excellent.  We shared a Tres Leches cake for Dessert but we should have gotten two since it was very good.  When the bill came I was expecting either the dessert to be free or make some adjustment.  They charged me for chicken but gave me shrimp, a dish that costs about  $7.00 more. The bill with tax came in at about $45.00. So I felt ok with everything.  Service was adequate I'd say.  Wife absolutely loved this place. She's ready to come back right away. I'll come back too, I still want chicken.
