  1. So the owner Mike ended up coming to my Japanese restaurant in NYC and of course I'm nosy and talk to everyone so I heard the word Yonkers I decided to jump in the convo.  Which is pretty awesome bc he's a big fan of Japanese food. And I'm a fan of good food myself and besides hearing that he has this restaurant I heard from at least 3 of my friends about his place before that anyways so I decided to check it out.

This place is super cute and so homey.  I came here on a friday, they told me and my gf it'll be a bit of a wait, but then the bar counter opened up and we didn't mind sitting there at all! Less than 5 minutes waiting.

The one thing that I love here is that the sauvignon blanc is my favorite (they sell it at my restaurant too) it's Kato from Marlborough YUM. And it's a lot cheaper here than at my restaurant so I'll take it!

The server, bartender whatever she was was super sweet, she was friendly to all the guests and talkative which made me feel more welcomed.

I ended up ordering the truffle fries, can't go wrong with those.

And my pizza I decided to make my own, which is nice to have that option. Our server warned me it would be a very expensive pizza lol but I didn't mind at all.  It was delicious and it's nice to see the open area to watch the boys make the pizza.

There was also something wrong with the credit card machine, which I felt bad for the server bc the old hags next to me who looked like they don't even know how to use a tv remote were getting upset at her for it not working on their card. But it finally worked.

  2. Fun boozy brunch with a dog-friendly patio. Visited Popelttini on a Sunday afternoon after a trip to the Larchmont dog beach. We enjoyed a burger, pizza and endless mimosas. I wanted to try the Michelada but they were out of the mix early in the day. The burger was a bit dry but the pizza was great. The server although slow was super friendly and gave our boxer water. Great spot for a bubbly brunch!

  3. When I first heard the name it sounded like yet another deli, but it's far from it. My first visit was on Friday and the place was packed. I was pleased to see a warm and functional decor, which always means that the focus is on the food.

This place is known for it's wide selection of bottled beers, things you wont find anywhere else. Oops, sorry, this is a Pizza place btw. How I love pizza! And this one is really good. Thin crust with the correct balance of sauce and cheese. I generally like tabasco on my pizza but they didn't have any. What they did have was a spicy home made sauce which was amazing! Also try the zucchini fries, YUM!

On a hungry Sunday morning my taste buds were craving the pizza again. I mentioned it to my wife and she was more than eager to go. Now the good thing is that they also have gourmet specials. On the board I read, chicken liver pate (ordered) and char grilled trout (wow). This is really unique. Something for everyone. I also tried the beef meatball which was quite nice and hearty. The chicken liver was a bit on the cold side, which can easily be brought to room temperature for it to spread easily. Once again the pizza was great! I was truly satisfied.

So why just 4 stars? The service is lacking. It seems like I have to keep checking on my order or ask for something. It could be that they are under staffed… who knows, there's always room for the star to be added!

  4. Not your grandmother's pizza. Polpettina rocked my world with their fig, pancetta, and whatever other goodies were on that pie. And 1/2 price bottles on Wednesday? Are you kidding? I had one of the best bottles I've had all year (Saldo Zin, if you're interested). Definitely need to bring the wife here.

  5. Went late Saturday afternoon and found a seat at the bar to order take-out. The Bartendress was really nice, chatty and personable. I ordered my Eggplant Parm, which to me is one of the best I've had so far. The eggplant is sliced exceptionally thin and layered high, a good ratio of eggplant, with breading to cheese and sauce. I also ordered the sautéed kale with ginger, which I've never had before, but figured I'd add a veggie that's not broccoli rabe. I asked the Bartendress if bread comes with my order to which she said, 'they charge a $1.00 extra for bread'…Okay, not a problem I'll pay the extra. She said not to worry she'll throw the bread in for me for no charge. Which I thought was nice, since I've never been to an Italian restaurant where you don't receive the standard bread and pats of butter in your take out bag to help sop up any remaining marinara sauce. So I appreciated her throwing in the two ciabatta.

Now once home, driving from W'chester to N. Bx., I divvy up the eggplant Parm, which was a decent size portion, not too big and not too small, enough for two small servings. Then I open the container with the kale…I kid you not there must have been a 1/2 cup (or wee bit less than 1/2) of kale…I was pissed! I think I took 2 fork fulls only to have about 2 fork fulls remaining for $7.00!!! Come on man!!!  That was not cool!!  So much for trying to complete my DV of veggies for the day! The taste of the kale was…meh. I'm a kale lover, but I wouldn't have it again. They didn't drain it well so it seemed watery without the additional flavors blending well.

Bottom line, I would definitely get the eggplant Parm ($14.00) again, can't resist those thin slices of eggplant. But will stay away from adding sides to go. This was the classic, you get less for what you pay for when taking out at an Italian restaurant syndrome. Which I've experienced at one other 'famous' Italian restaurant in Throggs Neck.

One last note, the atmosphere of Polpettina was cool, so I would try having an early dinner at the restaurant to beat the crowd (as other Yelpers mentioned) and check out something else on their menu, in addition to the eggplant of course.

  6. 4.5 stars. It take a LOT to get me excited about Italian food. I mean A LOT A LOT … but damn if eggplant chips drizzled with honey and sea salt won't hit that sweet sweet spot on my taste buds. And if I'm feeling like a little savory action to even the score, maybe I'll have the meatball sampler … it includes beef with standard tomato, basil and ricotta; pork with broccoli rabe, chilies and roasted garlic; and chicken with carrots, scallions, sesame seeds, cilantro and sesame soy (yeah, like a bahn mi sandwich … IN A MEATBALL!!!)

And I know, I know, I should probably try the pizza at some point, because Polpettina has some pretty incredible flavor profiles in there (like figs, pancetta, goat cheese, arugula pesto and truffle honey!) But I can't bring myself to order anything but the Chicken Milanese sandwich. The chicken is breaded and fried to perfection, never too oily or heavy; the mozzarella slices are just thick enough to let us know they mean business, but not so big that they overpower the other ingredients; delicious, plump tomato slices are balanced with the slightly salty arugula pesto and roasted peppers bring the whole dish home. It is AMAZING!!!

Oh, and they have fun weekly specials, like Tuesday's Girls Night Out: Pizza and Prosecco for $29, and 1/2 price bottles of wine on Wednesdays.

Why the hell are you still reading this??? Go! NOW!!!!

  7. YOU GUYS.

I moved to Westchester in December. I know you may not know this about me yet, because I spend all my time in the city. I just figured Westchester isn't where it's at for food. When we bought our house, we did it at night. In the dark. I never saw my home in daylight until I owned it. I don't really recommend this as the way to be a first time homeowner, but it worked out for us.

ANYWAY. Because I only went at night, I never noticed Polpettina, right at the end of my block. One day, we took some fami;y over to see the house after we owned it but had yet to move in. We decided to go to Polpettina since it looked cute and crowded enough and…you know…what if it was actually really good?

As you may have guessed, it's completely delicious. Like, whoa. We had brunch that first time, and the prices were unbeatable, the food outstanding, the staff crazy friendly. I loved the unlimited champagne and beer cocktails that accompanied lunch.

Since then, my husband and I go, like, every night. Okay maybe not EVERY night, but at least two times a week. Christina always greets us with a smile and makes us feel like regulars. Josh is always smiling at the bar. We have tried everything on the menu. It's all delicious. I can honestly say, everything here is good. Really good.

The pizzas are flavorful and well balanced. The ingredients are fresh. The meatballs melt in your mouth, the eggplant chips are EVERYTHING. Eggplant that melts into your mouth with a light crunch on the outside and honey drizzled on top? Come on now. You know that tastes good before you even try it for yourself.

The beer selection is on fleek, as kids say these days and the wine is good, too. They have specials all week long. It's comfort food with a little bit of flair. We have brought tons of our friends and family and not one person doesn't leave that meal impressed. It's great for kids, adults, foodies and your friend the picky eater.

I legit can't even begin to tell you how much I love it, but the above was my best attempt. If you haven't been here yet, GO!

What the hell are you waiting for?

  8. The variety of Pizzas are still the best bet.  Service was okay this time.
