This was my first time here after reading the reviews on Yelp. I ordered dinner to take out for my husband and I. We both had the stuffed chicken with mashed potatoes and cole slaw. First of all I can't believe how much food they give you for $7! The food was delicious and homemade. I can't wait to go back and try something else!
Nice little Polish deli in a tiny strip mall on route 23 south in Butler. In the area on other business. Pleasant surprise. I took out a sampling for dinner. This is strictly a take-out operation — no eat-in seating — and parking is a bit awkward.
Pleasant folks. You can practice your Polish if you must, but everyone speaks English.
They carry all the usual suspects made fresh in house, like pierogi (try the blueberry – terrific with sour cream), golomky (stuffed cabbage), nalysnyky (cheese blintzes), potato pancakes, and more. Their cured meats are authentic enough too. They offer a few varieties of house smoked kielbasy and hams; their Moscow-style ham is lightly cured but heavy with raw garlic, and the wedding kielbasy is double smoked (a bit much for me) and plenty garlicky too. You can also find traditional rye bread and the usual condiments and prepared salads to go with your lipid-loving extravaganza.
When I want a serious Polish foodie fix … it's Piast all the way (yelp.com/biz/piast-meats…) — but PS is sure worth a look if you are in the neighborhood and have Polish comfort food on the mind.
Very affordable home cooked yummy! Great option for a to go lunch or take some smoked kielbasa home and through on the grill.
Very nice employees are always super helpful when I am there!
Polski Smak is where it's at!
This place is Polish comfort food at its best!
If you come for lunch, bring you appetite. On my last visit I got a chicken cutlet that was probably around eight inches in diameter and a good quarter inch thick. As a side dish I had bacon dumplings topped with beef stew and a side of tomato salad. I always impress myself because I swear that I'm not going to finish it, but I seem to house that isht… Every time!!!
*btw lunch is take-out only
My wife picks up dinner from here about once a week. Kielbasa and pirogies is a quick easy meal.
I highly, highly recommend getting the "Wedding Keilbasa" it's a super savory double smoked Polish Sausage (massive amount of umami).
Also, let's not forget about the sauerkraut! If you don't like sauerkraut, this place might change you mind; it's the real deal. It's buttery and savory, with almost no vinegary taste.
Once you start getting further up north, the ethic food starts to get more scarce. So this place is definitely very important to the neighborhood. I wouldn't say it's a "hidden" gem, but it's definitely a gem… No… It's a diamond!!
