I really like their new location near NYU. The new "Pommes frites" offers a larger space with more seating, plus some a/c (bonus). They still have a place where you can stand and eat your fries if you want to. This new location has their familiar type of ambiance, to me sort of a medieval style with dark wood (very comforting feel) as their original iconic shop. Their fries are still as delicious as I remembered them to be. Hot, crispy, crunchy Belgian double fries with hot cheese dip or their Poutine topped with squeaky curd cheese covered with hot gravy. They do offer many other types of dips but I am a true cheese lover with tunnel vision. I am so glad to see them back better than ever!!!
So profoundly happy this business is back after the original location was destroyed by the fatal 2015 natural gas explosion. Since I am unable to travel to Belgian, Belgian can come to NYC! Fries were prepared Belgian style, thicker than the average French Fries and deep fried twice at two different temperatures. It is then sprinkled with salt, air tossed for the salt to infuse together and served in paper cones. I loved seeing my order fulfilled as it was almost like food art to watch one large batch of Frites air tossed. Shared or consumed alone with the option of the sauce served separately or directly onto the fries, and yes, a fork is provided. One regular size $4.50 and sauce is $1.50, one regular size was sufficient as it was very filling that I was unable to eat dinner. Sauce options are abundant. I suggest to dine-in while it's fresh because it will be all oily and soggy by the time you arrive home- especially if you have a long commute. I do not recommend consuming Belgian Frites often due to high cholesterol, excessive oil and possible weight gain.
This new location is the same dark, dingy, intimate atmosphere as the previous with the exception slightly more indoor seating embedded with holes for insertion of paper cones. Thankfully, there is one unisex facility and a small sink with paper cups for free water near the order counter. Order and pickup counter is now in the rear so the line will not spew out the door (very smart, a good benefit for the autumn and winter NYC months). Business cards are the same design with the new address as the only difference. Customer service is efficient and courteous. Pommes Frites is good for first dates where couples can share one order and feeding your date.
Service was good. They were very generous on letting customers to try different sauces with fries. They provide mini wet wipes for customers, which is very impressive to me.
We tried several sauces and ordered rosemary mayo, red wine mayo and wild mushroom mayo. Regular size fries is enough for two girls. Fries itself was mediocre, not crunchy or fresh enough. Sauces selection is huge. Basically you can get any flavor you think of. My friend liked those special sauces but I'm not a fan. I sticked with my favorite sauce: ketchup, and it is free
Long time fan of this place and was sad to hear about the fire that destroyed the original location. So glad that they are back!
I got to finally visit the new location, and it's quite nice. A little bigger than the old place (not by much though). Fries and sauces are just as delicious and flavorful as ever. My favorite sauces are the Rosemary Garlic, Dill Lemon, and Mango Chutney.
Welcome back, Pommes Frites. You were missed. Happy to have you back in all your delicious glory.
I Love this place! They know what they do and they do it right – it's fries! A large is great for 2 people to share. Their sauces are great – I love the black truffle and the lemon dill but really I haven't had any that I don't like!
The new place is gorgeous and has a little more seating and a great atmosphere. And the workers are pleasant and helpful with choices.
Go get some fries!
I am a fries, potatoe, fried carbs fanatic. You saw it here first, I started a hashtag #friesorabs. When I was planning my quick weekend to the city, I was definitely on a budget, but you HAVE to make whatever sacrifice for Pommes Frites. I've had them first when I was a little teenager and wasn't able to have them again until I was 21. Now I make an effort to stop by here whenever Im in the city bc you never know if youre going to be on another 10 year hiatus from having delicious frites. they arent a throughly crispy kind of frite, they have the warm soft crumbly inner texture. texture-wise, might be a hit or miss based on personal preference, but you really cant go wrong with fries if they are fresh and piping hot. I got the black truffle sauce, it costs extra but its WORTH it.
I finally got to try Pommes Frites the other day. I first heard about it on the Food Network about 10+ years ago. Sadly, I never got to visit the original location but this new location is easy get to and it's near many subway lines (i.e. Taking the A, B, C, D, or E trains to West 4th street).
I got the regular sized Belgian fries. I also asked the cashier what the most popular flavor was and it's the sweet mango chutney mayo – this was the sauce that I picked. The fries were alright and I wished that it was more crispier. The sweet mango chutney mayo sauce was extremely good and I was happy with my choice. I also got the frites sauce (which was one of the free sauces). It was a European mayo sauce and I though it was meh.
The place is narrow and small. So, you will probably be sharing a seat with a stranger. I'll come back one day with friends to try other different sauces.
Because it's always a good day for traditional Belgian-style double fried potato sticks with sauces galore- that is why you go here, and why this place is a tastebud's idea of a good time.
It's easy here. How so? You can only order frites. Not hard. Though it becomes difficult if you aren't sure of your hunger level. Let me help you: when was the last time you ate frites and thought that you had too many? Alternatively, when was the last time you had frites and wished you had more, confused at how they are all gone?!? You're welcome- go big or get out of line so I can have mine faster!
The sauces are a difficult aspect to the process, though. There are dozens. Conveniently, they have an allergen list at the counter, so vegans and dairy-concerned, gluten avoiders and others can be assured the sauce selection suits your dietary preferences and restrictions. Classic choices like vinegar, ketchup, frites (mayo) sauce, mustard and onions are free. Get fancy with some ear sauce, peanut satay or mushroom/truffle goodness for a mere buck-fifty more. Unsure? Ask for a sample.
I am not sure how the people who work here stay friendly- must be the yummy fries? Very patient and as fast as possible!
Love the location- shiny and new, with that delicious mouth-watering aroma as you approach, a welcome addition to this little part of the City… Though it makes my eating choices one level more complicated….
Credit cards accepted. Some indoor seating. Get it to go? Gluten free frites. I need more… Now.
