It's takeout only and nowhere near a train, but if you can sort out the logistical issues this is a must-visit.
While ribs and fried chicken have always been excellent, I was rewarded for getting more experimental and trying new items including the spectacular smothered turkey wings. The fried pork chops are dangerously delicious. Oxtail and short ribs were very good, too. The one skippable entree I've found was the chopped pork.
On the sides, I was stunned by how much I enjoyed the cabbage. Mac and cheese is a strong contender. The collard greens need to be considered in context – it's not like you'll be writing soliloquies about them after one bite, but they are very effective as a lighter counterpoint to the meat items. And just when you thought you can't eat for days, it's peach cobbler time.
My entire family has been coming here since the place really was a shack with a grill for the ribs that Freddie used to make. I've been frequenting this place since I was in middle school and now as a married woman, I still come here and bring my husband along with me. They have really great roasted chicken and ribs. My personal favorite item is the whiting fish dinner with mac n cheese and sweet corn on the side. The fish is usually big as is the chicken and they have a nice selection of sides to choose from. The only downside is that they are take-out only but even that doesn't deter me from eating here.
3 Words: Dis Ain't It!
I really wanted to like this place and food. Especially since a good friend of mine was raving about how they have the best ribs in town. Just know he got an earful after the first meal I've had from this place.
I read the reviews but I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt. Lol. I was hoping the negative reviews came from people with broken taste buds. but na. ya'll were right. This aint it.
