  1. Popeye's chicken is so danged good, I'm bumping this 2.5-star review up to a 3-star rating!

As far as this particularly location?  Not so great.  Most of the staff are completely vacant.  But some will at least let you know when they have a deal that will get you what you just ordered, but at a lower price.

That being said, they're slow, often understaffed, and I think I've been here once when I didn't have to wait for something to come out of the kitchen, since they don't keep on top of what they need and wait too long to restock it.

It's a guilty pleasure, and there are few of them in city, and I'm glad to live spitting distance from one!

  2. A good buttery factory-made biscuit and Strawberry Fanta in the soda fountain can't even save this review.

This location has been near the Washington Heights campus of NewYork-Presbyterian for years now, but the walk up to 172nd and St. Nicholas is usually too much on an average work day. However, Shanrgi-La, Chipotle, Mike's Bagels, Jou Jou, Coogan's, Carrot Top, Strokos, et al…well, none of them were doing it for me, so my co-worker Mel and I decided to stretch our legs and be a little bad with some chickeny fast food.

There were three people ahead of us in line, four people waiting for food. One woman was behind the cash register and mumbled so inaudibly, I'm surprised I was able to make out anything she said. One was getting orders together…kind of. There was a cook in the back staring vacantly ahead to the front of the store.

Needless to say, it took us 15 minutes to get simple combo meals. Some of those people waiting ahead of us were still waiting for their food when they left, one customer (rightly so) inquiring what the hold up was.

The slowness was inexcusable and my food came out cool.

At least my biscuit was a saving grace…almost.

Nuts to this place. Never again.

  3. Located conveniently walking distance to Columbia Medical Center so you know all of them come by for some good fried chicken.  Taste like all the other popeyes.  no complaining there.  way better than kfc.  spicy chicken with Louisiana spicy sauce is the winning combo.  mashed potatoes could use a lot more gravy cause its just dry without it.  the cajun fries are always crispy and flavorful.  biscuits full of butter.  theres always deals posted on the windows so look out for those.  the register people actually know about the deals too so you can always ask.  helpful and delicious.  winning! always get the right amount of chicken too, never complained once so far! *cross fingers*

  4. I LOVE Popeyes Chicken and Biscuits but this location is one of those I now avoid at all costs for two reasons:

    1. The staff can be a riot (unless you're a customer): They are sloooooow (Seriously, I get faster service at the Popeyes locations in New Orleans. Now, service in NOLA can be sloow!), untrained (please, don't tell me that you don't accept coupons – especially if they're printed from the Popeyes website specially for your location), unclean (seriously, the world goes beyond the counter… can someone please come around and clean this joint?, and the epitome of bad service (It's been 40 minutes… stop telling me that my chicken will be ready in 10 minutes! I could've walked to and from the location on 191 by now!).  The girl actually laughed when I said that to her. Honey, it was NOT supposed to be funny.

    2. The lack of chicken: This location consistently runs out of chicken – especially spicy chicken. It makes me wonder what the staff is doing back there. The record for me was a 50 minute wait on chicken. I seriously could have slaughtered my own and fried them up by now.
