One day my girlfriend and I were wandering about Roselle and we stopped here for a quick snack. This Popeye's is relatively new (it wasn't there when I moved into the area over 6 years ago) and looks really nice on the outside and inside. It's clean, the structure is well maintained and the interior has ceiling fans and plenty of seating.
We went in and ordered. I ordered two of their healthier options, a chicken strip wrap and a diet soda. We waited for a while, and after about ten minutes the cashier waved me over, showing me a box that I *thought* contained my order, but when she said "Two chicken strips and a biscuit" I went "Um, that's not mine." Now, much to her credit she didn't even flinch and immediately tried to correct my order. Unfortunately I had used a card (no ATM's nearby) and she needed to charge me about a buck something more, but wound up charging me $2+ more instead. I had to explain the math didn't work and she got it sorted out (hence why there are two stars and not only one in this review), but it was the most bizarre ordering experience. I mean, this stuff is computerized, it shouldn't be this hard.
What frustrated me is that off to the side, a manager was giving one of the other cashiers a talking to and didn't attempt to come over to resolve the situation. Had it been me, I would've told the cashier to just call it even since she made the error. We're talking less than $2, I think the store could've taken the hit and treated it as a lesson learned instead of overcharging my card and then having to void a transaction and so on.
The chicken wrap itself was very tasty. It had some pickles, mayo, the chicken strip (nicely seasoned) and lettuce inside a tortilla styled wrap. My only complaint with the wrap was the wrap itself. It tasted fine, and its texture was good – but it was cold. They should really heat them up for a bit before serving them. No one wants a cold tortilla!
I'm not planning on going back to this Popeyes any time soon, and the cashier I was dealing with had the VERY unenviable position of manning an inside cash register while taking orders from the drive through (despite the drive through having a separate person already) so I'm sure she was a bit frazzled, but still, it was one of the more confusing fast food experiences I've had in a while.
