  1. Every day when I was a student teacher in Alphabet City, I would walk a different route to school from the train in search of the best bodega coffee. UNTIL I FOUND POPPY'S. The end.

  2. Poppy can deliver, poppy's got food on the go, poppy's got beverages.

Poppy's Gourmet Corner is a local deli that sits in Stuvysant Town/ Alphabet City where I needed to replinish my juicy sweetness for a bottle of green tea at $1.25.  Poppy can jive.  Lottery tickets?  Ya, poppy's got it!

Gonna go to poppy again… Though poppy has limited stuff, he does not entice me for a return visit!!

  3. It's funny, when I wrote my original review of Poppy's 4.5 years ago, I lived nowhere near this bodega. In fact, I didn't even live in New York. I lived in San Francisco. Fast forward roughly 1,500 days and I'm a daily customer.

I routinely stop in for my favorite comfort food staple of the morning: bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll. Simple, fast, cheap… it's not Michelle Obama's ideal way to wake up, but who cares? Live a little, Lady O!

On days I work from home, it's not uncommon that I get all my calories in a given day from Poppy's (sad, I know). Bacon, egg and cheese for breakfast, one of their 30 some odd sandwiches for lunch, and something equally unhealthy for dinner. It's what New York living is all about.

You don't choose bodegas in the city, bodegas choose you. In this case, I've been chosen by much worse than Poppy's.
