Pop’s Restaurant

“The lunch burger is not the best you've ever eaten, but it's good and not greasy and no rush to get out at either time of the day.”

“The food is decent/ a little above average for diner breakfast food for the price so I'm a little surpised by the 3-star rating.”

“Their burgers are actually really good, my favorite is jusr a regular CheeseBurger with some fries.”

  1. I remember when this place was called " pops " years ago now it's " new pops " Love the patina here very 1950's 60's feel here but the owners that run the place does not know how to take care of what they don't make anymore. I have a few memories in this place with some family. I went for dinner a couple times here did not like it , breakfast is what I go in there for love the breakfast here waitresses are friendly but I'm going to have to give this place 3 stars for not taking care of the place and once apon a time when it was "pops" the ice cream shakes was out of this world don't know what happen when this place became "new pops"

  2. Under the elevated tracks of the J train in Woodhaven sits "New Pop's Restaurant".  This locale was once an old style bar, complete with a large mirror behind a bar, dark wood moldings, beautiful stained glass work along the walls and very distinctive booth seating.  Part of the appeal is feeling like you've been transported back in time.  Some of the parts of this place need some work like their display case for desserts, which looks like it needs some serious external repairs, but I tend to find such things help make, not break, an atmosphere.

Clearly the bar was bought out ages ago and turned into a diner.  The family that runs the place is super friendly.  We were all seated quickly and I found myself quite amused at their menu, which included some awesome sounding items like challah bread french toast and kids meals named after super heroes (I almost ordered the "Batman").  Service was very quick and efficient.

I ordered a simple breakfast of two eggs sunny side up, toast and ham.  The eggs were cooked perfectly and the toast was warm and crispy.  My girlfriend had the challah bread french toast with cheese and turkey on top – and man that was really nice.  The french toast was thick, fluffy and tasty though I confess the turkey was a bit dry.  My other friend also had their sausage, which was good and a bit spicy.  I also really enjoyed their coffee and had several cups.

Best of all, the prices were are very reasonable.  Overall this was a great experience.  I don't happen upon this area often, but if I do at least I know a good diner to visit!

  3. I was surprised and very happy to see they offer a veggie burger, which is what I went with. It wasn't anything spectacular (and the white bread bun was kind of boring), but given that it's the only place around that offers it, it was a treat. I also got the soup of the day, which was a vegetarian lentil and vegetable, which was quite tasty. The service was decent, and the waitress was very response to our request to have things rushed.

  4. Been coming here for a few years because it is one out of two diners in my neighborhood.
This place has new owners but I think the environment is still the same. Pretty quiet. Kind of too quiet.. Lol
    The staff is friendly.
Their food is okay. Wish it were more savory.
I mainly go because of their convenient location and their spinach and feta omelet, which I highly recommend.

  5. If I am ever in the Jamaica Avenue area, I can guarantee that I will be stopping by Pop's again. The interior is something out of an old history book; small tile floor, dark wood covering everything. Counter resembles that of a turn of the century bar than a eatery. I have eaten at places like this before, but no other place was immaculate as this! The tiles gleamed white even though they were clearly aged, the counter shined like it had just been polished earlier that morning. I went there because apparently my grandfather used to frequent this place when he was alive more than forty years ago and my curiosity was piqued. I was also amazed by the low prices of the food! The staff were kind, courteous, and had such a friendly attitude from the moment you entered till you left. I enjoyed coffee and a Belgian Waffle that was light, buttery, and flakey, the best kind! The bill was less than six dollars, and the woman who took care of me filled my cup up several times. This place was great and I definitely think I will look for it again in the future.

  6. Oldschool.  The food is decent/ a little above average for diner breakfast food for the price so I'm a little surpised by the 3-star rating.
