Love pops! Awesome beach setting! Nothing like it on Long Island! Don't really eat here I usually stick to the liquid diet, the owner just keeps adding more and more improvements each season, just a really cool nice little getaway to hang out with your friends family and/or coworkers! Came here on another occasion and the tried the food and was pleasantly surprised! The crabcake, clams on the half shell and chicken sandwich were all very very good! Despite the subpar food reviews
I reviewed pops a year ago & here i am updating it. Idk if its because im a local here and have always enjoyed this shack BUT like i've said before, pops is still 5 stars for me. The food, drinks, decor, staff & overall ambience lures me in. Great summer spot & music. Enjoyed it even more because my bf decided to drive the boat and to our surprise, docking was so easy & free! Which is a cherry on top.
Delicious food, cool atmosphere, mediocre service on a Friday night.
Came for dinner with a group of 4 and a toddler and had a great time!
Food:
A little pricey but soo worth it.
Warm lobster roll is buttery and delicious! I will be ordering this again next time! Huge portion of sweet potato, regular fries or tator tots. I got the sweet potato and even though they were yummy, I couldn't finish them.
Crab cake burger was delicious, just a little too much bread.
Grilled cheese lobster is perfect with the lobster bisque it comes with (and fries)!
They actually also have a verbal kids menu which seemed to be a hit with my niece.
Drinks:
When I ordered the west ender at dinner it was delicious but once I ordered it from the bar on the sand it was a little too sour and lacking alcohol.
Nice selection of beers and other cocktails.
Can't wait to return with a big group of friends.
Tables on the sand even have fire pits. Real cool set up.
Wish I could give this place 5 starts but their service is really lacking.
Came here on a Thursday night and the staff was SO RUDE !!! First of all, it took me forever to order drinks since I was being ignored by the female bartenders. Now, I understand that the workers want to go home (trust me, I have worked as a server also), however this is NO excuse to treat your paying customers like trash and try to kick them out. They closed at 12am and around 11pm I was asked 2-3 times if I wanted to close my tab when I was just trying to order a few drinks for my friends since the minimum for a tab is $20. They started shutting the lights off outside and then the valet came to us asking which was our car so they could park it up front (basically saying, GET OUT). This is all before 12am. While we were standing outside, a bartender came up to me handing me my closed out tab telling me here is my bill and don't worry about the tip because she can't even do that now. No one came out and said last call, so that was just once again, RUDE. I rarely leave reviews like this, but this place really irritated me. I have worked at and been to multiple places where if you are a paying customer before closing time, they still treat you nicely and do not try to kick you out when they are about to close (or even after they close). There are better/proper ways to let your customers know you are closing soon. I don't even care to review what the drinks were like. Won't be coming back here and wouldn't recommend coming here.
Pros: the decor is great.
That's it. That's what my two stars are for.
Cons: let me start the list…
The drinks are basically all juice. I couldn't even tell if there was any alcohol in it. $14 for juice? Uh no.
The food was oily. We couldn't even eat it.
The service is TERRIBLE. The "bouncers", the waiters/waitresses, the manager all act like you're doing them a favor by coming to their restaurant.
I went with a group. Our bill was nearly $400. That alone should earn us at least some type of service no? Nope. The waiter knocked over a drink while serving food and his response? "What you want?" No sorry at all. I would've accepted a sorry even without a drink replacement. He brought a new drink but his attitude was the same as if he threw it at us. A member of the security came over and basically at our group for about 15 mins – we weren't making any noise or acting up. Just chilling. After he watched us the waiter came over and threw the bill on the table and said "Tip included" and walked away. How rude is that?!
This place sucks and I def won't return. Don't waste your money.
Pops you are always a great time. The older I get the less interested in nightclubs I get,so an outdoor bar and grill like this excites me. You come here more for the drinks and dancing. The beach setting is what makes this place so unique. Don't wear heels unless you want to be super uncomfortable in the sand. Wearing my yoga sandals and getting away with it made me truly happy.. Ladies nights on Thursdays for cheap drinks count me in. The music is top 40 with a lot of throwbacks. Love that it is by the water. I hate valet parking but here it is a must just tip them whatever you want. Being here really made me feel like I was in Miami. What a great place. Here's a tip when you see King Kullen know that it is across the street from it where you make a right ( so easy to miss at night).Wish you weren't so far from me. Will continue to keep coming back. Yay Pops you rock!
Pop's Seafood Shack & Grill is known for having a long wait but people don't care because you can hang out in an amazingly fun setting! The restaurant is surround by man-made sandy beaches right on the water and there are fire pits and Adirondack chairs everywhere as well as outdoor bars and DJs. We were prepared for this wait but it was on the earlier side (I got out of work early) and kind of overcast so we didn't have to wait to be seated at all.
After we had finished eating it was still super early so we decided to take advantage of the light crowd and hang outside for a bit. How awesome is this place? It's like you're in Florida or somewhere tropical instead of Long Island!
We grabbed some more drinks and settled in by a fire pit when it started to rain. The staff saw us and nicely set up some chairs underneath an awning so we could still sit outside. Since it didn't look like the rain was going to let up anytime soon we decided to head to our next destination but we'll be back! The food and drinks were really only okay, but the atmosphere totally makes up for it.
Great summer hangout if you're like me and love taking advantage of outdoor bars any chance the weather is even slightly warm. The bar is based on the sand and along the water, and the bar has a tiki beach-y vibe throughout. The restaurant I hear the food isn't anything great, and it's overpriced. Granted we had a large party (about 14), but they told us the wait would be 2 hours- what?!?! Luckily our waitress somehow handled our (may I say obnoxiously loud) table well. I really recommend this place more for the drinks… I got the punch which watch out, it is STRONG!! – the one drink they don't list the ingredients for on the cocktail menu. Pops also has a dance floor so bring your dancing shoes! (But really flip flops- prepare for sand all over your feet lol).
Love outdoor bars so I will be back, not for the food but for the drinks and outdoor hangout.
