Mediocre food at best. Service was good and attentive, but they brought our entrees out while we were still finishing our apps. And the entree were cold! They must have come out at the same time as the apps and then just set in a counter. The steak Portucale came in this terrible sauce with sun dried tomatoes that just overpowered the dish. There was no mention of the tomatoes in the menu. The menu also described the dish as coming with prosciutto and there was none. The dining area is nice and there is a patio in the back. Parking is also available. Even though the restaurant has some positives, there are too many better places in the area.
Good place for Portuguese food!! We were at the feast we wanted to eat outside and somewhere authentic so we def enjoyed this!!! If u make a prior reservation ur table will be set before you walk in…as ours was…only thing I didn't like was my husband and I got the ribs and chicken combo as did our friends. Tell me why they brought out one little plate of Spanish fries and salad???? Half way done we got a plate of rice followed by our other Spanish fries..what happ to our other rice or salad?? Anyway half my chicken was dried out 🙁 couldn't even get it of the bone it was so dry….the ribs though were fantastic….and I don't eat ribs!!! Anyway the end result is would I go back??? Ehh I dunno!!! Ferry street has so many more places for authentic Portuguese food!!!
I came here after reading the great reviews on Yelp and let me tell you they were all right. We came in around 9 on a Thursday evening and Tony was our server. I got the house Portuguese wine which was very light sort of like a pinot grigio. We started with the shrimp in garlic sauce and it was good and very garlicky which I love. For my entrée I got the Mariscada in green sauce, which is like seafood in a garlic broth and it comes with rice on the side. My dinner companion had the double stuffed lobster tails. Both dishes were delicious however the lobster tails were delicious.
We finished our great meal with a passion fruit mouse that was so good I should have taken one home.
Everything here was really good and Tony was a great server, what really shocked me was the prices, where can you get seafood for $24?
I will be sure to come back and have the stuffed lobster tails.
They get 3 stars for being so hospitable and even open during the snow storm! The ambience was very warm and inviting however as the food goes I was far from impressed. I ordered Salmon with mashed and broccoli and got a side of grilled shrimp. The salmon was burnt on one side and the shrimp was tough and over cooked. The presentation was lovely, it just looked a lot better than what it tasted like. The sides were delicious but I wouldn't go back just for sides. Because of all of the positive food reviews I do want to give this place another chance and maybe they just had a bad day. But for now I'm staying clear.
Hands down, the Best Portuguese restaurant in Newark. Can't stay away from this place. The roasted baby pig is awesome. Awesome!
And the best part – service! Those guys really know how to take care of you, best service anywhere.
We signed up for the Groupon deal, and it was well worth it! What delicious food, and a great place all-around.
The bar in the back is lively and the music is loud, but the dining room is much more quiet. My husband & I enjoyed a delicious meal in peace.
We started with two appetizers. One came with the Groupon deal, the other was extra. I ordered the Octopus in Garlic sauce and the portion was huge. My husband ordered Portuguese Prosciutto with Serrano Cheese, which also came with olives. They brought bread and olives to the table to start, as well, so I guess we weren't leaving much room for dinner.
My husband had Bacalhau with peppers, onions, potatoes & other vegetables. He was in heaven, said it was perfect. I had Squid special that was also with peppers, onions & potatoes. Believe me when I tell you that there was so much that I brought almost all of it home, and got two more meals out of it.
We had cappuccino for dessert, and we had wanted to split the plate of cookies, but they were out of them. So we split a flan and I don't think we finished it because we were too stuffed. We walked out with a bag laden with food.
The Groupon deal was for one appetizer, two dinners and two glasses of wine. We added the coffees, the dessert and the second appetizer. We were very pleased, thought that even without the Groupon the prices were very fair, and we were impressed.
Service was very good. Our waters were continuously refilled, and we felt that the waiter gave us time to talk, which was nice.
I've always loved the Ironbound and I'm glad I've discovered a much less touristy place with truly delicious food. I will be back. I've already told friends to jump on the deal because it's so good.
