  1. I'm giving 5 stars for many reasons here. I used to come to eat here when it was 101, so I was a little hesitant to try it.
First, I really love how they fixed up the place- especially the red velvet cushioning on the wall. They also moved the bar area to the middle of the restaurant which opens it up a lot. They have outdoor seating as well as a big garage type door that they can leave open to let air inside. I really like the seating a lot more too- you're not on top of people while you're eating which was a huge deal breaker for me at 101.
Anyway, it's really clean, the bathrooms are too lol. The service was really good- everyone was very attentive. They bring HOT bread to the table with flavored olive oil- and when we finished the bread, they brought more 🙂
The menu was a good mixture of seafood, pastas, meats and salads. For appetizers, a couple of different antipastos, stuffed artichokes, little neck clams- which my husband ordered and loved. About 6 different types of salads- I ordered the house salad which was fresh and not overly dressed. They had a nice selection of pastas, including black linguine, risotto, lobster ravioli- which my husband got and really enjoyed.
For the meats- they had chicken available a few different ways, francese, parmigiana, marsala- which I ordered. The marsala sauce was a nice deep brown and very tasty- the chicken was incredibly tender and moist and it came with some broccoli and roasted potatoes, all just awesome!
For desert we ordered the apple crisp- which was also just amazing.
I will absolutely be back- sooner rather than later and I highly recommend trying this place out- the food is fresh and the service is really great 🙂

  2. I came here for the first time on a Wednesday night with my friend. The restaurant is pretty. The chandeliers are very beautiful and fancy. They have a very nice menu and had some food specials for the night. My friend and I shared the stuffed artichoke. It had olives, capers and roasted red peppers mixed in with the breadcrumbs. It had a little bit of a kick to it and I really enjoyed that. For dinner, I ordered one of the special pastas which was chitarra pasta with 1.5 pounds of lobster, mussels, clams, calamari and shrimp in a lobster tomato sauce. The portion was huge and they didn't skimp on the lobster at all. It was delicious. My friend had the risotto di pescatore which came with clams, mussels, scallops, shrimp and calamari. She really enjoyed it. The portions were both very big so we brought them home. We didn't have room for dessert but I would love to try their dessert next time.
Overall, I really liked this restaurant. I just wish it was a little more casual. I was surprised to see people so dressed up for dinner on a Wednesday night.

  3. I was part of a group of nine people who were dining at Positano for the first time. The restaurant was prepared for us and we had a big table all set up well in advance of our reservation time. We ordered some bottles of wine and a bunch of appetizers and everything was really tasty and came out quickly.

We ran into a problem when my wife was working with the waiter to accommodate her gluten allergy. She wanted one of the specials, but after learning it came pre-breaded the waiter suggested to switch the fish. We thought that meant same meal, but different fish. It actually meant an entirely different seafood dish, one that my wife wouldn't have ordered normally. We figured better safe than sorry when it comes to her gluten allergy and my wife ended up liking what she ended up with.

Unfortunately we still ended up sorry as my wife ended up throwing up most of the night. We're not sure if it was gluten, or bad fish, but either way it was terribly unpleasant.

So why 4 stars? My wife called the owner/manager the next day and explained the situation and he was extremely apologetic, emphasized how serious they take food allergies, and he ended up refunding all of what we paid for 2/9 of everything, not just the bad meal. We aren't from Brooklyn so in lieu of a gift card he offered to just send us a check. This excellent customer service and the fact that everyone else really enjoyed their meals is why I think Positano deserves 4 stars. Just be careful if you have celiac and double/triple check to ensure your meal was prepared gluten free.

  4. Excellent food. Very friendly & attentive owner & staff. I would have given 5 stars except the waiter (who WAS very nice, though) didn't seem to know the menu well enough, so when my pasta dish (which was supposed to be meatless) arrived, it had pork in it. They did the right thing by taking it back immediately, apologized & offered me alternatives. Despite this faux pas, I DO highly recommend trying this place. The atmosphere is casual but VERY nice. There's both indoor & outdoor seating & the decor is very pleasant. Same owners as Campagna in SI & Bay Ridge, which is excellent so they know their stuff. We will DEFINITELY be back.

  5. We went on a rainy Saturday night for dinner, and although my boyfriend thought we were crazy, sat outside under the awning.  It was too loud and warm inside, but outside it was perfect. The staff were friendly and it seemed like we had a lot of people looking out for us. The food was great – we started with the meatballs and buffala mozz, which my only complaint is that there wasn't more! I had the chicken milanese, and my bf had the pappardell bolognaise.  We weren't rushed, I felt like we could have sat longer, but alas, we had to go. I'll definitely come back again to be pampered!
