  1. I have to give Pret 5 stars. Clearly I love it there because I go at least twice a week and I never get tired of it. That's saying something, isn't it?

What I love about Pret is the innovativeness of the sandwiches. Note: if you don't like cilantro, you better watch out at Pret because they loooove it (as do I! so I'm in luck). Most sandwiches have some sort of quite flavorful dressing on them, which I think sets them apart from your regular turkey club with mustard and mayo.

There are two styles of cold sandwiches: the ones on sandwich bread and the ones on baguettes. I go for the baguette when I'm extra hungry. The ones on sandwich bread are a little skimpy, but they are good if you have something else to snack on that afternoon and don't want to overdo it in the bread department that day. They even offer half sandwiches, which are not that cheap, but which are ideal if you just need a little something, not a whole lunch. I think the idea is to pair one of those halfsies with a soup or to eat just the halfsie if you are a stick-thin model, but I am not prone to either of those options.

There are also wraps and now they have hot "toasties" as well. The wraps are typically the lowest calorie option (each sandwich is marked with the calorie content) and the toasties are the highest, but naturally, the toasties are really frickin' yummy.

My one and only beef with Pret is the drinks. They recently added iced tea to their repertoire, which is excellent, except in their usual fashion of doing things a bit differently, the black tea they offer has rooibos in it. Some of us find rooibos to be nasty, so that's a bummer. But the iced green tea is good. The soda selection is very minimal.

Oh, one more thing. They now offer steel-cut oatmeal for breakfast, which is obviously the best kind of oatmeal and nearly impossible to screw up, so I assume that is a plus, but I have never tried theirs.

One MORE thing. I read an article recently about how their corporate culture is to really push their employees to be super duper nice. And it really shows. You will never EVER encounter a surly Pret worker. There are always numerous cashiers and they are speedy so you never have to wait to pay. I love the way they joke around with each other and the customers. Today, one lady called out, "down here! Come to the VIP line! Step right up! The VIP line is open!" That made me smile. It's the little things, ya know? She might have been having a totally crap day, but she brightened mine just a little bit and that makes paying $7 for a sandwich that didn't really fill me up totally worth it.

  2. Pret A Manger is undoubtedly overpriced for what it is, but the refrigerated sandwiches are not bad at all, and you have your calorie counts posted if you're concerned about health. It's clean and warm and safe, but essentially it's a prettier version of Au Bon Pain. As chains go, it's a reliable one.

Tip: There's free WiFi for customers (you can catch it from the Indian place down the street, too, once you're "IN":).

  3. My first time stepping into a Pret after 3+ years in Manhattan…  I liked that the layout for this place is rather simple, the packaging on the food looks "gourmet", they have calorie labels on each of the sandwiches (around 230-270 cal each for a single/mini sandwich)so yes, I grabbed 3 single sandwiches to try em out.

Vietnamese sandwich – Not bad, not all the usual ingredients, but they managed to make it somewhat taste like an decent Americanized version.  I'd come back for this

Chicken Avocado – Pretty darn good.  Light yet tasty, good enough for a return trip as well

Chicken Bacon – I thought this would be the best one, but it's a bit bland, dry, and heavy

$11+ for my sandwich tasting, not too bad I'd say.

  4. They seemed to add more vegetarian options since I last been here. I have a weakness for baguette bread.  but its a nicer one in the area, a bit more spacious and better seating.I'd probably agree with saying the price point is probably a couple dollars for what you get though.

  5. Great place to grab a sandwich, wrap, or salad (all of which are pre-made but good) on the way to Penn Station.

  6. I actively support their use of organic ingredients whenever possible and also providing their food to the homeless at the end of each day.  You are always going to be eating something fresh when you go to Pret's, but they don't make the best food around.

Dare I say it?  Many of Subway's $5 footlongs taste much better.  And Subway's prices are so much better too.  Pret's egg salad sandwiches could really use some additional mayonnaise and perhaps another pinch of salt, the avocado & hummus sandwich looks really pretty in terms of color, but heavily lack in terms of taste.  I do have to give a thumbs up to their lentil soup though – great flavor, very hearty & thick.. Extremely filling as well, just a small soup (comes with a chunk of bread) filled me up so much that I did not even touch my half sammich.

  7. I can't stop eating here. Sandwiches are always fresh everyday and they donate the left overs to shelters. Great quick stop for lunch

Prices are fair for what you get. Soups, salads, hot wraps and cold sandwiches.  Ranges from $4.99-$6.95.

    Food: 7
Service: 8 (fast and people are always cleaning the tables)
Decor: 8 (for a sandwich place, clean and organized)

    * ratings of out 10

  8. I'll keep this short. There's not much to say about yet another Pret a Manger in the city. This one is adequate, which is all I can say of a lot of these 7th ave lunch places. I'll pro/con it up to make things easy.

    Pros:
    +Food is relatively healthy
+You've got a decent selection of sandwiches, salads and "power bowl" type options – not many vegetarian options but I can vouch for the falafel salad – surprisingly good (I wasn't expecting much). Though I did not look for a bird feather in mine, so I might've just had some animal protein in my veg salad after all. They eat pigeon in some countries, right?
    +Friendly staff
+Calories, grams saturated fat and grams sugar are posted next to the description of each item – good for sticking to healthy diet (though relative calorie counts do not necessarily equal health, just so y'all know)

    Cons:
-Overpriced for the what you're getting. That's my biggest gripe with Pret. The salad packages are deceivingly big. In reality, you're really not getting much bang for your buck. I thought I was saving by getting a pre-packaged salad here instead of making my own at Fresh & Co across the street, but these salads are simply not worth 10 bucks.
-While the ingredients are purported to be fresh, I've steered clean of the chicken avocado salad on several occasions after spying a few avocados that were more brown than green
-This might be nitpicky, but some of the salad container tops aren't secured. Oh wait, mid-review revelation..MAYBE THAT'S WHY THE INGREDIENTS DON'T LOOK SO FRESH?? In any case, that just seems unsanitary to me. 7th ave in Midtown is not a clean place…so I prefer my food toxin-free to make up for the air I'm breathing in constantly

    All in all, adequate.
