This place is a gem in the Upper West Side! It is where the old timer and delicious Al Dente used to stand and served amazing dishes for almost 2 decades! Pretto is bright and all new. I love the addition of the imposing and elegant bar. It certainly adds refinement to an already pretty sweet spot. Staff is super kind and the atmosphere relaxing and romantic.
It is easy to tell that the food is super fresh and masterly prepared as the menu is small and changes weekly following the week's special. Before I start though, I wanna you to know that the focaccia is made daily. What restaurants make their own bread these days?! I mean, seriously?! Amazing. I wish I could have bought myself a plate full of focaccia. Ze yum.
My favorite item on the everyday menu is the Gnudi. The thing is impossible to pronounce, but Oh. Em. Gee. Incredible to eat. It's like if there was a kingdom full of gnocchi, the Gnudi would be the Queen of the country, ruling as supreme ruler of the gnocchi universe. I am not exaggerating a bit, this thing is amazing and you want to keep it coming haha!
I also got to try the Riso verde -quite delicious. Risottos aren't an easy dish to master -Pretto seriously honored the Italian tradition of this creamy delicacy.
Finally, I adore the desserts, everything is homemade, and if you had a grandma who made desserts at home, these bad boys would take you back down to memory lane in a second! My favorite are without a doubt the apple pie (have I said Oh. Em. Gee. already?) and the panna cotta. Oy oy oy, my hips.
Also, I see that they are now doing paninis!!! What a treat! I used to eat paninis all the time and I can't wait to go back to the UWS to give the warmly pressed sandwiches a shot. That or a couple orders of the regal Gnudi nuggets. Oh. Em. Gee.
