Primo 135 is a tiny spot (maybe ten tables) that is easy to miss if you are walking quickly up 7th Avenue. Once inside, it's clear that they have done an amazing job with a small space — it is intimate and cozy. It's the kind of place that invites you to linger.
Primo 135 exceeded my expectations by a lot — and all because of the magic of the food here. Notice the beautiful board of bread that begins the meal (and that eggplant spread is to die for!) and make sure you bring friends so you can sample much of the excellent pasta offerings. Don't miss the black ink taglierini which is served with tomatoes and what the menu terms a "seafood ragu." An abundant ragu it is — calamari, mussels, clams, and shrimp! This is now my favorite black ink pasta dish at any restaurant. The linguini with mussels is almost as good as the black ink pasta, and the orichetti served with excellent broccoli rabe, sweet tomatoes, and small pieces of sausage is just brilliant. My advice, then, is to come here and eat as many of these nearly perfect pasta dishes as possible. And save room for the tiramisu which is magically light and rich simultaneously, with big chunks of chocolate at the bottom of the wine glass it's served in.
This is a new restaurant and there are certainly small missteps, but you won't care because the food is that good. Tonight the credit card machine was down, and customers were being sent out into frigid temperatures to score some cash. The food was so good that no one seemed to mind (though clearly Primo needs a back up plan – I kept wanting to tell the owner to get a square for his iPhone!). It also seemed to me that food this good needs to be supported by a more experienced and more refined waitress. Ours seemed attentive only in about the first half an hour of our visit – after that, she virtually disappeared. But I have full faith that Primo will iron out all the kinks, and I will certainly be back.
We enjoyed our evening at Primo135. Staff was friendly and attentive. We were sitting by the window, and it was a bit strange when the waitress asked if my wife would light the candles on the window sill. It would have been more appropriate had she asked us to kindly move out of the way for a second so she could get to the candles. Not a big deal, just an odd way to start a meal. The restaurant is small, but they've done a nice job with the place. The design is modern and fresh. As was the food! We each had a different pasta dish, and all were plentiful and delicious. The arancini was one huge rice ball. Great appetizer to share. Overall a pleasant experience.
Perfect restaurant choice for an intimate dinner with an old friend. The interior is very warm and comfortable with dark wood tables, and the cozy atmosphere made it conducive to conversation.
We shared the Monte Bianco Della salad, an arugula salad with proscuitto to start off with, and it was quite a large portion so I'm glad that we shared. My companion got the oracchietta and I got the spaghetti carbonara. I had a bite of the oracchietta and the pasta was fresh and tasty. My spaghetti was in a creamy, but light sauce with proscuitto pieces and I finished every last bite. It was warm and comforting and tasted very authentically italian.
No room for dessert, but given the appetizer and entree performances, I'm sure that it would have been incredible. Service could have been better. The waitress started off attentive, but there were several instances where I had an empty cup and we had to ask twice for the check.
Definitely check this place out if you're in West Village, but make a reservation for a weekend dinner because the tables are limited.
What a cute spot. We walk by here all the time to our favorite Mexican restaurant down the street and we have talked about coming to eat here sometime. I think mostly because the curb appeal is real nice and inviting. Looks a bit like you what the movies portray of Italian restaurants in Italy on the streets with open patios. Usually, this place is pretty full, on this particular night that I really wanted to eat Italian pasta, we finally decided to eat here and changed our plans from a different restaurant and I think it was a great decision to finally check this place off.
I really can't complain much, we had the restaurant basically to ourselves as no one else was in it. This is something that normally triggers a red alarm in my head, but seeing this place as full as I have in the past, I knew it was most likely cause it was really cold and most of the people liked eating at the patio at this restaurant (again because of the curb appeal). We had their dinner combo, which I believe was about $25 which included a starter, an entrée and I think it was a drink or desert. I remember having the bruschetta (which was definitely my favorite ever). This was freshly made and just tasted so good. I am not a big fan of tomato, but man I would eat that every day and pour that over any rice or taco. I believe I had the pasta carbonara which was thick and creamy and a great portion! I truly loved the food here! My partner ordered a shrimp salad which had plenty of shrimp, but left him a bit hungry … why would you try to be healthy at an Italian restaurant?! I had red sangria which was served in a pretty big wine glass and lasted me throughout the dinner. All in all, a pretty cheap dinner and very filling with a candle light setting.
As the restaurant was super empty, we had the server all to ourselves and I felt like she was not just waiting in a corner to see if we raised our hands or needed anything, which was great, everyone likes being over attended as much as they love being forgotten.
In any case, the food was great, the service was great, the ambiance was bit quiet and dark interiors make for a bit of a low energy room, the dinner deal is pretty amazing! I still remember the bruschetta. Mission accomplished!
This is a great second or third date type place, not exactly the first unless it's summer and you can sit outside in the patio!
Its a very nice place with a Terrace, the food is very good and the waitress was VERY nice with an Italian accent too bad we waited ages and the wine was not so good
Lapin and I came here the other day for dinner. The server — the only server did a really good job. There were a couple of people just hanging around and not helping. It seems like a Kitchen Nightmare episode where the owners are just hanging around while the server takes care of 18 tables by himself.
The restaurant is nicely decorated and the bathroom is spacious and well kept. We did the two appetizer and two entree deal for $39. Lapin got the tomato bruschetta, which looked like a giant heaping of crushed tomatoes on 4 pieces of toast. I got the house salad which was okay but had a hair in it. The server apologized and offered to bring out a new salad. I got the grilled shrimp which was a giant salad with 4 shrimps. The shrimp was nicely cooked and tasty. The chicken milanese which a giant cutlet underneath a bed of salad. The chicken was delicious but a bit dry. We also ordered a tiramisu which was $9. It was delicious but a tiny portion. It was half filled Cosmo glass with cream and two small wafers on the bottom. The house Prosecco ($13) was really delicious. The food itself took forever to come and was mediocre (could be what I ordered).
Some of the other review, noted about the cold food and undercook/overcooked food. While, we didn't notice any of it. There was a group of people who complained about the cold food and undercook chicken.
