Thin and crispy – with generous topping. Price is right too. The only thing they do not have is a place to sit.
Weekdays at lunch – not
Much of a line. But they are fast anyway – New York minute – so for a good pizza, I waited – line out the door but maybe only 10 minutes wait.
They were out of prosciutto balls – I will have to get them next visit. You got it, I shall return!
Best square pepperoni slice in NYC, if not the continent, even beats Detroit. Ask for it to be put in the oven for a couple minutes for an extra crispy bottom. Sooo Good!
Woe is me! I've just discovered this awesome pizza spot, and I don't live in the area anymore. But whenever I'm around, I know I'll be dropping in for TWO of their Sicilian slices. That's how good it is. One won't be enough!
My husband and I stopped in this past weekend after a bit of shopping in Soho. I ordered the plain cheese Sicilian (square slice) since I figured it would be a dense, heavy slice. I couldn't have been more wrong! It's lighter than your average NYC Sicilian with a wonderfully flavorful tomato sauce and the perfect amount of cheese. The crust is akin to a bread stick – crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. It's so good, you might want to start with the crust and work your way in. (Gasp!)
Considering that it was a sweltering hot and humid afternoon, I wasn't sure if pizza was quite the right lunch choice. However, it was absolutely perfect, and we both ended up back in line ordering another. During my second round, I ordered a Sicilian slice with pepperoni. In general, I'm not usually a pepperoni person because I hate oily pizza. However, these mini pepperonis were amazing! The edges are perfectly crisped and don't grease up the slice. And they don't skimp on the pepperoni either. In fact, they stack two pieces of pepperoni on top of one another!
This pizza joint is teeny tiny and does not offer any seating. Each side of the room has a small counter where you can enjoy your slice, and then head out. The walls are lined with photos of various celebrities eating at the pizzeria. It seemed like every Italian-American actor from the tri-state area was featured on their walls. It has an authentic old school feel, which feels like a total miracle considering what the area is like. If you're looking for the classic round pie, they sell those too. I overheard people discussing the margherita pizza, and they seemed really happy with it. Seems like you can't go wrong here!
Five star pizza in a five star pizza town. They make their own mozarella and sauce (as they should) and the pizza is delicious. Order by the slice in this hole in the wall pizza joint and never look back.
Five star for the pepperoni.
This pizzeria would of been a bit above average (arguably just average) if you take out the thinly sliced goodness called pepperoni, but to our luck and to the pepperoni addicts out there, this is not the case… So go grab a square and keep going back for more.
Reason for being just average:
the dough is "just" good, check out L&B Spumoni to compare, or even artichoke on East 14, also The sauce and the cheese lacked flavor.
Ps. I wish they had longer hours… They are only open on weekends till 2am.
* no bathroom
* no minimum on credit card
* no seating available
The best of its kind, in my opinion. I love thin crust New York slices, but the Sicilians here are so incredible that I never feel motivated to even get one of their regular slices. The Spicy Spring is exactly what it's cracked up to be — sloppy, spicy, and incredible. Needless to say, this is a great spot that should be on every pizza lover's to do list.
Prince St. has been on Mr. Joy's list to try. If it weren't for him and the many photos of their square slices, I might have dismissed it as just another takeout pizza spot, with pictures of random celebs plastered on the walls.
There is a good selection of different slices, Neapolitans, calzones, and such, but of course we tried the Spicy Spring slice with fra diavolo sauce, spicy pepperoni & mozzarella (~$4), you know, that square slice with all the curly pepperoni pieces.
It is delicious for sure. We got a corner piece that was crunchy all over. It was nice and thick, but not too thick and doughy. The spicy flavor was also embedded in every bite.
However, I was a little surprised by how much oil there was – little pools of oil in each bowl-shaped pepperoni, as well as in all the crevices. I'm not one to give a damn about calories, but I was surprised by the amount of shiny liquid it held. Plus, the edges of the pizza were quite burnt. Ordinarily, I wouldn't mind, but the burnt edges were too bitter. Also, I think the oiliness might have contributed to the intermittent burning.
I do appreciate that they stay open late. If I had a couple of drinks in me, I probably wouldn't have even noticed the burnt edges. I'd say this slice was a 7/10. If It weren't for the heavily burnt edges, it would be more of a solid 4/5, but I'll round up. Plus, they really need to brighten up the lettering of their chalkboard menu to make it more visible.
There were a lot of good reviews for this pizza joint so I decided to give it a shot. It was a close walk from the prince St r/n train exit. There is no sitting room here and the first thing I noticed were that the employees don't seem very friendly. I ordered the silician pepporini slice. It wad just as described. It was really crispy and the sauce and mozzarella were grewat. However service is a big part of the experience hence the three stars.
