Propellerhead is an absolutely perfect addition to the wonderful Cortelyou strip.
They're currently still in their soft opening stage but so far I think I may be in love. I was on my way home now, drove by and saw they were open so of course I stopped my car short and ran in.
I scanned the menu and it is perfect. Short, sweet and the perfect eats to go from Breakfast to Lunch to Dinner. I'm currently waiting for the tomato soup with grilled cheese that I quickly ordered. The cobb salad is delicious and filling and the purple yam gnocci looks to die for.
They are going to be getting a liquor license and the back yard is going to open in the next couple months.
I did order an iced americano while I wait. The coffee, I can say is pretty solid.
Service and management is just as awesome. They're friendly, laid back and eager to serve and help. I am truly impressed with this soft opening and urge you all to check it out.
LOVE. I came here for brunch and there wasn't a dish I didn't like. TIP: the whole menu is available for brunch!
First of all, they have a huge space and an awesome staff. I walked in and just knew that it would be a great experience. They have a couch in the front, and a bright, open seating plan. I love how they decorated the place – I felt right at home. Well, maybe not my home. A nicer home. ANYWAY, the staff is friendly and so accommodating! When they ran out of ice cream for dessert, they sent someone out to get more rather than just saying that they didn't have any. Much appreciated.
They have such a great menu that I wanted to order everything. So, we pretty much did…
– Iced Chai: not on the menu, but they did inform us that they have it. They didn't use too much chai, and I loved it. They also do dirty chai!
– Home Made Toaster Pastries ($4 each): This is their take on strawberry and blueberry poptarts. These are better, in my opinion – they're flakier and the quality of the jam inside was way higher.
– Ratatouille ($6): I'm not generally one for veggies, but this was gooooood. And that sauce on the bottom of it? Put that on some toast and that'd be heaven
– Mini Pies ($6): Normally these come with mashed potatoes and gravy, but they didn't have any (they gave us a discount on these!). While it's not what I expected it to be, these were delicious.
– Mac & Cheese ($7 but they're changing it to an entree and charging $10): a good way to round off our meal, especially with the spiciness of the buffalo chicken sandwich. Add prosciutto or cherry tomatoes for an extra dollar!
– Buffalo Chicken Sandwich: definitely pretty. It was a little too hot for me (I had to down my iced chai and alternate bites with the Mac and cheese), but it was good. The toast was fluffy and the blue cheese sauce helped tone it down.
– Purple Yam Gnocchi: this is what initially drew me to this place, and it did not disappoint. I'm so used to purple yam (also called Ube or taro) being used for sweets such as ice cream or bubble tea, so it was refreshing to see it used in a savory dish
– Brownie with Ice Cream: the meal wouldn't be complete without dessert. The warm brownie was a good mix of cakey and fudgey, and it went well with the vanilla ice cream
I'll definitely be back soon to try more!
I ordered the yam gnocchi which came with mushrooms. The gnocchi was soft and melted in your mouth. The mushrooms had a great soy sauce flavor. The mushrooms were huge and would've been better served in smaller pieces so as to not overwhelm your palate. I finished the food easily and was still super hungry (which almost never happens). I would've liked a bit more gnocchi or something else to make it a filling dish. I ordered a strawberry toaster pastry as well which was clearly homemade and fresh.
I tried my friend's hash browns and they were super fried and crispy and…amazing!
The service was attentive and very nice. I loved the simple decor and the comfy red couches. I'll definitely be back again to try their general tsos waffle!
Passed by here tonight and it was finally open! We had dinner and were really, really pleased with everything. The menu is great for dinner — buffalo chicken sandwich, pulled pork, burger, and lots of other stuff. For an appetizer we had the mac and cheese with some kind of crispy pancetta or prosciutto or something and garlic chips and it was SO GOOD. Nice portion size, and I am really picky about mac and cheese (my partner's from South Carolina so duh) and it was definitey up to par. For an entree he had the burger and I had the buffalo chicken sandwich. Both came with really good french fries. He said the burger was one of the best he's had (and we eat a lot of burgers…) and the buffalo chicken blew my mind. Delicious, crispy chicken, well seasoned, with yummy fresh bread, bleu cheese on top, with extra buffalo sauce and bleu cheese sauce on the side. Nailed it. We had apple pie with ice cream for dessert and that was excellent, too. The crust was amazing, and only comes second to my grandma's.
The decor and ambiance were exactly what I would have wanted in the neighborhood– elegant but contemporary and fun, a HUGE space, a giant counter area that you can sit at if you want, and lots of couches/banquettes, too. It felt really homey and chill and just happy in general. The service was great, everyone was nice and friendly but not up in your face, so perfect. I loved it here! I'm so happy this is around the corner. We'll be back (probably tomorrow lol).
