“solid brunch, the type of brunch that i like: no eggs, no fried, syrupy, starchy, diabetes-inducing stuff.”

“I love the other restaurants in the family – Bar Toto & Bar Tano – and I like Provini because it's off the beaten path.”

  1. Been wanting to come for brunch, but stopped in for dinner.

Started with calamari special came with fried artichoke and marinara – classically delish.

Provini salad had well dressed arugula topped with a whole sliced pear and Gorgonzola cheese – yummy!

Fiancé had the special Bronzino with tomatoes capers olives and mashed potatoes.

I had the squid ink pasta with shrimp topped with (too many) artichokes. I was expecting more ocean flavor but it was tasty.

    Panna cotta was delicious!

    Would try for brunch!

  2. Food is fine, service is okay but the price range seems out of sync with the location.  The last time I ate here (it was awhile ago), they had a special tomato soup and it sounded good so I ordered it.  What they didn't say was that is was more expensive than my entree!

If you're paying over $15 for a bowl of soup, I think that should be mentioned.  The money's not really the point but for me, that seems a little unusual so I didn't even think to ask how much it would be beforehand because I've never seen a bowl of soup cost that much anywhere.  The soup was good but the situation left a bad taste in my mouth.

  3. We were short on time and not willing to wait the hour to be seated for brunch at Buttermilk Channel and headed to Park Slope.  First good sign was "parking".  Second good sign was not too crowded to be seated and outdoor seating.
Third good sign?  Great brunch menu!  Pulled short rib panini.  Provini's lasagna with bechemel sauce ranks in my top 3 best lasagna experiences.  Ever.  I had the beet salad with saved fennel and the pear and walnut salad as my meal.  Very fresh ingredients and excellent service.   Sit down, have a pellegrino, chat with your friends and enjoy the pane cotto.  Privini is an italian cafe and has an old world european feel to the decor, a fully stocked bar and, you can just have coffee and desert if you don't need full meal.  You will be treated like family, so sit-sit-eat-eat-mangia.

  4. Very romantic and charming space with actual Italians taking your order and bringing you drinks. Plus their nice too, which is way cool for NYC. I went here last night with a close friend and my girlfriend, we had a great time sipping port and eating their amazing desserts (and I'm a real bastard when it comes to other peoples desserts). The Tiramisu and the flourless chocolate cake were amazing, and the combination of the "Primitivo" port wine we had made it all the more special. We lingered while they shut down the restaurant and we were there past closing, but they never once made us feel like we were holding them up, they were very European about letting us enjoy ourselves. We didn't have any food off the dinner menu, and after reading other reviews I am a little confused because after how great my experience was last night how could their food be bad? I am definitely coming back to try the food, and even if it's bad I'll come back for the drinks, desserts, and their excellent ambiance and service.

  5. I'm giving it 4 stars, though I am tempted to knock one off for the loud dish banging, obvious closing mechanics, light-turn-upping and music turn-offing at the end of the evening.  After being specifically told that we should relax with our glass of wine and that biscottis would be forthcoming (they were not, and the relaxation was a not).

However.  Up until that point-stellar.  I would eat here All The Time if I lived in S.Slope, but luckily I have many reasons to visit.

The saffron something somehomemade pasta with shrimp and zuccini in a white wine butter sauce was TO DIE.  Died and gone to pasta heaven.  Short, sweet and well-executed menu of fresh, flavorful on-season dishes.  Crap.  I'm making myself huuuuungry.

Wine list is exclusively italian, and we have no fears asking for descriptions/parallels/etc., so I suggest you do the same if you're as unfamiliar with italian wines (beyond montepulciano, barbera and prosecco) as I am.  The server was super-friendly and quick with the wine tastes so I could have the perfect heavy Gavi-ish white.

Evening's end was a bit of a shame–especially after being told to relax–but I will be kind and gentle seeing as it was a Monday night.

  6. Everything about this place – wine, menu, interiors (quite excellent) – are fantastic. The vibe is at once casual and cool.  The "missing star" is due to the service. They could be a little more "invested" in their clients. They all seem a little detached – lacking interpersonal skills. They are not rude, just a little drab and zombie-like, and seem to have a lot on their minds. If the staff gets friendlier and more casual (matching the tone of the rest of the place), they'll get the 5th star.
