Even after a year, I still think about this herbed biscuit. And it just pisses me off because I can't have it, but if you are in Brooklyn looking for brunch — THIS BISCUIT COULD BE YOURS!
We sat on the quaint, charming little patio on a nice fall day. Our server was hilarious and perfect in every way. We ordered up some coffee, and the steak and eggs to split (since we were culinary hopping that day). The steak was succulent and flavorful. And we enjoyed being surrounded by all the beautiful ivy in the back.
After visiting 47 places in 3 days in NYC – this house made herbed biscuit was in my top 5 for best things I ate. Stop looking, and start eating.
Really cute spot that you allllmost miss walking past, but (as my sister and I did) a second glance had us turned in our tracks and we're so glad we did! Rabbithole is dark, cute, dimly lit with candles. Exactly what we were looking for Thursday night. Not a minute's wait even!
The service is very good. We didn't try their cocktails (we opted for a bottle of wine), but I will be sure to next time; it looks like that is what they specialize in. We had the octopus starter (devine!), sister had the lamb burger, and I had the salmon. We also tried the early grey creme brulee (so so good) for dessert. I would order everything we had again! Great gem!
Rabbithole is a little off the bustling Bedford St stop and sometimes that's just what you're looking for when you want a low key, casual dinner without sacrificing the service, food, and ambiance. The restaurant is rustic with a lot of exposed brick and scratched wood tables. It is quite small but wasn't crowded on the Saturday night when I visited. There is a cute garden area in the back, which was closed off since it looked like it was about to rain.
Here's what we ordered:
– Seared striped sea bass with white quinoa, grilled corn, roasted tomatoes, fennel, and cilantro: This dish was excellent. It fit the criteria of what I was looking for now that we're approaching the heat of the summer months. The fish is lighter than salmon but still has that perfectly crispy skin and moist meat underneath. I tend to stray away from ordering pan seared white fish at restaurants since it naturally lacks fat and often times come out overcooked when you're trying to get that skin crisped. The fish was sitting on a generous bed of roasted corn, charred just a little bit, but never burnt. On the bottom was a light, refreshing cilantro broth.
– Lamb burger with fries: My boyfriend ordered this and the lamb burger was cooked so perfect! It was still dark pink in the middle, a perfect medium/medium-rare. I've had quite a few lamb burgers, including the one at The Breslin, and I thought this one stood it's ground on lamb burgers, without all the fuss and wait from The Breslin. The lamb was juicy, flavorful, and good amount of feta cheese to give it a tangy, creamy complement. He also ordered a beer, which finished this off. The fries were crispy too.
Rabbithole is good when you want to just stop in for a meal. They offer both the casual American fare, like burgers and fries, but also some more finessed dishes like the pan seared fish. The service was good and our waiter was more than friendly, jolly, and welcoming.
I first met Lawrence when he opened the Read Cafe. Im grateful to see his business thriving in the hood so many years later and I'm lucky to live so near the rabbit hole. His places have all had this excellent atmosphere that makes you want to come often and linger long. The food here is great – homemade scones. Steak salad. Nice brunch. And the yard is magical.
Rabbithole is a solid address for Williamsburg. Like the yelper Irene W said below, "If you're ever in Williamsburg and can't think of a place to eat, definitely head over to Rabbithole!" I I had dinner there 2 years ago with some friends but because I forgot the experience, I decided to go back to try again and share my review with the yelpers and the readers.
Rabbithole atmosphere is very cozy. You feel like you are in some restaurant in the countryside. Wood and leather are used for the furniture, candle are lighted for the evening. A very nice garden in the back of the restaurant for brunches .
I ordered a sparkling wine for drink and I shared a Cheese plate with my friend. Cheese was good, portion: more generous than some other places I've tried but the surprise came with the condiment : Warm apple, cinnamon and mustard seed: delicious! It took us 3 minutes to devour the cheeses. I got the steak salad and my friend got the salmon. We both enjoyed our meal ( salmon was almost rare which is perfect) . We shared the pistachio pudding and I can only recommend it! Despite the name it was actually very light. A perfect desert to end a light meal.
I am taking out 1 star for the service. Not bad but not great either and for the 3 pieces of bread that they charge us. That was completely inappropriate especially because it was 3 ridiculous piece of bread ( the last pieces from a loaf bread that no one want to eat). I believe I should have asked if it was going to be complimentary.
Anyway 4 /5 for Rabbithole!
I love this place! I've been about 5 times for brunch and even take people's parents here. I always sit in the adorable back garden. Great cocktails, delicious coffee, friendly service (no matter how hung over I am!), and everything I've eaten has been spot on. I recommend this place, and everyone always thanks me for the great suggestion!
Great food and atmosphere but service sucked. Had the open pork belly sandwich and a lemon poppy seed scone which were divine. I really like the sandwich, I have never had an open face pork belly sandwich before and I would definitely recommend that.
Excellent food, quick service, good value for the prices, and an amazing eggs florentine. Also features an awesome back porch. Great for weekday brunch, as well!
