I came for lunch after a hearing across the street. Such a great find. They have affordable lunch specials (starting at $6). I had the chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and rice with veggies. It also came with free naan. They had run out of naan, so I didn't get mine until about halfway through my meal. it was worth the wait because it came out hot and fresh. The restaurant is great as a quick lunch option as all of the food is pre-prepared, though it still tastes freshly prepared.
Ordered twice from Raj's via Seamless. Both times, the food arrived within the stated time windows, and orders were correct. There's not many good options this side of the river that will deliver in LIC, so I'm glad I can count on Raj's for a curry.
The spice levels satisfy well across the spectrum- my boyfriend likes it incredibly mild, and that's what Raj's provides. I like it incredibly spicy, and I find myself reaching for the water glass after every bite 🙂
I don't care for the "salad" they give as a side though – iceberg lettuce, a couple slices of thick cut carrots and onions, and if you're lucky maybe a cucumber slice. I never eat it. Would rather they offer a chutney, or a quarter piece of naan, or something else instead!
Service is a bit slow and decor is like takeout place, but food is amazing for the prices (only $9-$12 for dinner! Includes generous helpings of rice or naan). We tried the chicken korma, chicken vindaloo, and chicken curry and the flavors were rich.
Given how many takeout bags were going out of this place and the limited number of people in the restaurant, I would say this is better for delivery as opposed to dining in.
I was craving Indian, and this place just happens to be close by to my work place and has such great reviews! Originally, I wanted to just order plain old lamb curry, but this item was not on the menu. So opted for the Lamb Pasanda ($11.99) and an order of vegetable samosas ($2.50), my order came out to ~$16 with tax. Remember that you need at least $15 worth of food to get delivery. After I placed my order, I was informed that it would take 45 minutes, which isn't totally unreasonable but I ended up waiting close to an hour for my food. The delivery man was very nice though, I just wish the order could have been more prompt. I like this place because it has very reasonable prices, and they also have very good deals on their combo platters if you'd like to check out their menu.
The lamb Pasanda is a lamb dish in a cashew sauce. I had asked for mild so I was expecting some spice, but when I dug into my dish, there was no spice at all!! A little disappointed on that part. The sauce was sweet, with a nutty aftertaste (obviously). I thought it was okay…I am not a huge fan on sweet sauce, I prefer savory so there's bias on that part. I did enjoy the lamb meat itself, it was very tender and well cooked. Oh, also the order also came with white basmati rice and a salad! You can also choose bread instead of the rice if you wish.
As for the vegetable samosas, I thought they were just okay, nothing special, just your regular mediocre quality samosas. The filling was also typical, with potatoes and peas etc. Overall I had no complaints about the samosas. They weren't exceptional or anything, but they served as a good appetizer.
This review is for take-out.
I love this place and can eat from here everyday for lunch (and have been doing so). I love eating Chicken Tikka Masala, and for the longest time have been paying Manhattan prices ($15 and above) for Chicken Tikka + Rice. This hole-in-the-wall Indian restaurant offers a lunch special from their buffet until 5pm. For about $7, you can get a meat dish + vegetables + rice + naan bread. The people who work here aren't the sharpest or the friendliest, but they're fast and get the job done. I can get in-n-out of here in less than 5 minutes- great if you're craving Indian food on a short lunch break!
I did a quick lunch, $7.50 lunch special which included a bottle of water. I had a choice of rice, veggie and a protein. The lady behind the counter was not really engaging at all. I ask what kind of veggies and proteins they had available and she just pointed to the hot buffet table. So i went with what i knew best. I had the white rice with veggies, chicken (not sure what type of sauce was on chicken seem like chicken korma) and the curry eggplant. The rice was fine, had a dice of frozen veggies. The eggplant had some flavor but very could have used more spices and a little bit of heat. They eggplant was very oily. They use chicken breast for the protein this the chicken was tough. The sauce that accompanied the chicken had flavor but the chicken was bland with no taste at all. Overall not a bad experience but not the greatest either. However, given the price, i suppose is a great option for take out.
As for eating in, there is not a lot of tables and seats. Space is limited and when i was therr at 12pm, the tables were full and the one tables that was empty was dirty with left overs and empty to go containers from a previous customer.
I ordered from Raj's while staying at a friend's house in LIC. I had a great experience!
Ordering from GrubHub, I'm always a little worried that something bad will happen, but I was pleasantly surprised. After perusing their menu, I decided on the Butter Chicken, a side of Garlic Naan, and Gulab Jamun for dessert. The total came out to less than $20 (including a drink).
The delivery was pretty quick, and when my food arrived it was still fresh and pretty warm. If you have a problem with food arriving warm, then you shouldn't order take-out.
I opened up all of my containers and the smell alone was delicious! I was surprised at how much chicken was in my dish, considering that the prices are pretty inexpensive. The Butter Chicken was incredibly tasteful and had a perfect amount of spice. The rice was good as well, and it went along well with the chicken, since it didn't have any overpowering qualities. I love Naan, but the Garlic Naan was a genius touch. It was warm, full of flavor, and a great addition to the meal.
I've never had Gulab Jamun before, so I was a little surprised to see the amount of syrup that inundates the two doughnuts. Either way, it was still a nice treat, but I couldn't eat more than one because it was a little too much.
I had leftovers for the next day and they were just as delicious.
Seriously, great food for great prices!
Nice Thai ladies give great service. Food is so-so, take-out Indian but it hits the spot. Tons of delivery orders went out while I was eating in. I had the dinner combo #2 which is a-ok. Its super conveniently located 30 steps from the base of the subway entry.
