Stopped by yesterday after my rock climbing session. Good filling food at a reasonable price within the market and a great option when you are at LIC Flea. I had the plain cold noodles. The dressing was delicious, though I have to say the noodles had somewhat of an off texture. They should have resistance, but when they do give, they should have springiness. Rather, these kind of crumbled once they gave.
I chalk it up to the fact that it is a stall in a food fair. If they can come up with a way to develop truly delicious, springy, stretchy noodles while in a stall I will sing their praises from the luxury skyscrapers of LIC! (If I could get up there…)
It's only the beginning, and these guys have something promising already. Keep working to make it mind blowingly awesome!
I have tried two other ramen places in New York. I tried Totto Ramen and Jin Ramen and i like Ra Mein best. It is located in the Long Island City Flea food market. I had the ton katsu ramen. It was simply amazing. The broth tasted garlicky and not too salty. The noodles were chewy and the pork was really tender. My only gripe is that it's a small portion but for $9, it is worth everything I payed.
Since I was going to be in the area that day, a friend and I stumbled upon LIC flea during it's opening day. Unfortunately there was rain which was disappointing, but the fact that RaMein was here helped that!
RaMein is a little ramen stand at the LIC flea and this is their first time opening and running the business. With the clouds and rain, I wanted to start off with something warm. We found this stand and were on our way to get warm! I had the pleasure to be the first customer here, so with their menu options, I opted to try their Spicy Sichuan Beef Ramen. Take note that you not be expecting a bowl-size like a typical restaurant due to the nature and mobility of this stand, but the ramen was good nonetheless! The broth had great flavor and the beef was tender and well-prepared. Their noodles were not badly prepared (they also use Sun Noodles like many of the popular ramen shops in the city), but the star here was the broth and meat! My friend had the Tonkotsu Ramen and he was satisfied as well. I think adding to the fact that it was raining made our ramen experience much better!
Before leaving, I even opted to try their cold noodle which was not bad. The rain started to pour at this point so the cold noodle was not the best choice at that time for the weather, but considering the fact I was still satisfied means something about this dish!
I have heard the menu has since changed slightly with new options, so I shall be coming back again to try more!
