Ramen Misoya

“I had the Kyoto-style Shiro Miso which was creamier than my girlfriend's Hokkaido-style Kome Miso.”

“The Shiro Miso has fried tofu and the Mame Miso comes with a panko-crusted fried shrimp.)”

“The lunch special makes it even more worth it as you can get gyoza, fried rice, or, my favorite, karaage on the side.”

  1. – considering there's a ramen shop every other block these days I found this place to be below par, especially for the area
    – well proportioned with thick cut char siu (though of a lower quality than I'm used to)
    – I ordered neither, but was shocked by the sticker price for extra egg $2 and side of hot sauce $1.50
    – noodles didn't have that nice chew/bounce, reminded me of instant
    – broth was decent but nothing memorable (a friend got the special, her broth was almost inedibly salty)
    – random note: did the minced pork remind anyone else of sloppy joe? it didn't taste bad.. . just seemed out of place

  2. The food here is so good! This is great place for a lunch break or a nice date. The waiters are so nice and are so happy to give me the free cha-shu from the check-in. The ramen dishes are mini thanksgiving meals! For $11.00 you can have ramen, a choice of an appetizer and you will leave with a potbelly. The flavors from the ramen was so amazing. The miso ramen with the fried tofu, cha-cha, ground pork, light miso broth, ramen, egg, scallion completes your palate.

  3. It used to be my fav ramen restaurant. Like most of the ramen restaurants in town, it's a hole-in-wall place, probably could seat 20 people? Good thing is they take cards!

Most of the time, when i want a bowl of hot Japanese noodles, Misoya used to pop in my head the first. It was delish, satisfying, and definitely enough a big hungry guy.

It's been a loong time that i havent eaten ramen. Last Saturday i went there again,  and felt the flavor didnt like it used to be. The gyoza was really oily, the ramen soup was extremely salty. I loooove bamboo shoots, but what i only taste was salt. I feel I can handle salty food enough daily, i think i eat a bit more sodium than others in my food, it's not a good thing, but..;D.

As to the ramen, i couldnt certainly not eat straight, so don't mention the soup. I had to pour my water into the bowl to sodium it down. I didn't eat much, even tho, later that afternoon i was so thirsty all the time.

Hopefully they gonna put less miso paste or maybe tell them you dont wanna it too salty when you order?

  4. This place is a small cute place for ramen… only have a handful of tables so if you go at lunch time or dinner time, i am sure you will have to wait… but luckily i went in during off peak time, so we were seated quickly…
There are different type of ramen and broth, you can pick and choose what you want… there's one with extra butter!!!! i don't know about you, but i do think that it's already "fatty" enough with the chashu and the thick broth… extra butter seems a little crazy… but anyway, it tasted good, and the portion is good… Would come back if i am around the area….

  5. 3.5 stars rounded to 4.

Ramen, oh ramen, where art thou lovely bowl of noodles, pork, and broth?

Thus far, Totto and Minca have been a disappointment, but Misoya has proved to be a step above with their broth, flavors, and pork. The broth had a lot of depth and wasn't too salty, the pork wasn't dry, and the noodles were great.

The portion was huge, especially with the extra piece of pork for checking in.

  6. Ok this is not the place for vegetarians. Pork in every item. So once I gave up on that (I actually didn't ask but they might be able to veggie up a dish or two), I picked their most popular dish which was the cha su hearty ramen and it was amazing. The pork pieces were tender and delicious, the noodles and broth super satisfying, and the whole thing filling and yummy. The service was fast and friendly, and the place cosy.

  7. This is a really solid Ramen spot in the East Viillage! We tried the vegetarian ramen – misoya spicy (definitely spicy) – the tofu could have had more to it – but the broth was delicious, noodles really good, and vegetables pretty darn great. I also added kimchi and an egg to mine – and I was quite happy with the result.

Also had a delicious bean sprout salad that we all shared.

They have a separate vegetarian menu – just ask for it!

  8. I don't know why Ramen Misoya is so underrated, but I love this place! This was my go to ramen shop when I lived in the East Village, but I haven't been in so long since I moved. I crave it all the time though! I recommend getting the Kome Miso ramen which is a spicy miso broth that comes with potatoes, corn, soft boiled egg, bean sprouts, minced pork etc. Make sure to check in on Yelp to get free cha-shu!! I've done this every time I've eaten here. Surprisingly, all the toppings go so well together! Who would've though potatoes in ramen could be so good?!

What I love about this place is that all these toppings come with the dish instead of as extra toppings for an additional charge like most other ramen places. Also, they have a great deal for lunch which is ramen + fried chicken or fried rice for $10! It's such a steal and so yummy!
