Venue – Spacious with plenty of seating, and filled with NYU students.
Ramen – Unimpressive. The miso ramen broth is salty, the vegetables are clearly from a can, and it was overall lacking.

Whoa. This place got me to write dig up my Yelp account, just for the review.
This place is amazeballs. Located right outside of Washington Square Park, Ramen Takumi has an unassuming curb appeal, but oh baby, once you're inside…we'll get excited.
I ordered the Ramen Set A: a choice of an appetizer (think: gyoza, shumai, curry, oyako-don) and a huge helping of hot ramen, for $16.50. I thought it might've been a little pricey, but when it came out, I immediately swallowed those thoughts (and the food). Six, I repeat SIX gyoza. And a huge bowl of ramen with an adequate amount of pork perfectly cooked and seasoned.
The flavors were all there and the service wasn't half bad either. Overall extremely please and will definitely stop by again. You should too.
Still love this place. Best tsukemen and the chicken broth shio and sho-yu ramen are phenomenal. Tender pork belly, great tasting broth (not too salty, but salty enough), could do better with the quality of the ramen noodles but for their happy hour prices, daily lunch specials, attentive service, value and great tasting food — it really can't be beat!
Unexpectedly good ramen in Kips Bay.
Gotta admit that I've been a ramen snob for some time and have been hitting the NYC/LA ramen circuit. Takumi, while not a player in these rarified spheres, is actually pretty reasonable.
Showed up in time for happy hour and learned that ramen came either with a free order of fried dumplings or a pint of Japanese beer. Excellent, right?
Ordered the shio and miso ramens. While in most tonkotsu-style cases, the shio ramen usually takes the prize, was surprised to discover that the Takumi's miso was actually a bit better. That is, the miso contributed a sweet, savory, and nutty complexity that the rather simple shio broth lacked.
Got greedy and tried to finish both bowls, and paid for the superhuman sodium intake with some mild leg edema the next morning.
Unclear if they offer noodle reloads; it's not on the menu.
Was passing by with the gf and stopped in on a whim to fill our bellies. It worked out well as Ramen Takumi has good prices, solid Ramen, and unpretentious digs the way a Ramen place should.
Both of our soups were good. You can't go wrong with the Shio Ramen, Curry Ramen, Miso Ramen, and other standards.
Service was neither overly attentive or absent–a nice medium.
Ramen Takumi is a low-key, bright-lit, (Korean-owned?) ramen shop with very decent prices and neat menu. At this point, I'm still a noodle novice, but good food should speak for itself.
From the handful of experiences I've had so far, I've encountered convoluted menus built on a web of ramen and a side combinations. Takumi on the other hand unravels the Confucius by providing a simple image + description + optional add-on menu. There were at least 6-8 broths like a standard Shio Ramen as well as Spicy Tan-Tan and Curry flavors at ~$13/bowl. Don't pass on the several $1-2 add-on options like Shrimp Tempura and yes, Taco (fried octopus).
The Tan-Tan has that spicy, chicken broth that will light you up in the right way. You will meet a soft boiled egg, scallions, boy choy and a sheet of seaweed in your bowl. Overall delicious, but I was underwhelmed by the ramen noodle itself which tasted more under-cooked than it did al dente. Would I try this place again? Considering I'm on a mission to run through the best ramen joints in the city, it will be a while before I repeat locations. If you're in the area and grubbing for noodle soup, I would however suggest you pop in.
I've walked past this place every single day since I started school at NYU my freshman year. Yet I never bothered to try it because it seemed like there weren't that many customers every time I glanced into the window. Finally decided to give it a try today and it was pretty good. There's a discount for NYU students, it isn't much, but I always pay with cash so that was beneficial for me! Some of the sushi rolls are named after NYU's locatios (Bobst Roll, Steinhardt Roll, and Stern Roll) and I thought that was pretty cute. Settled on the Bobst Roll and a curry chicken ramen. Shared this with my boyfriend and thought it was quite enough to satisfy both of us.
The Bobst Roll had a lot of shredded crab meat on top with some shrimp tempura inside the actual piece. It had a nice spicy taste to it, but not too spicy. Not sure if I would get it again though, given that the price isn't exactly favorable for 9 little pieces of sushi.
The ramen was a 3/5. There was nothing special about it and being the picky person I am, it's hard for me to really like ramen in restaurants unless it's something I've absolutely never had before.
The service here was great overall, and our waiter was very patient with our order. Might come back again on a school day.
This ramen joint is next to Washington Square Park East, in the beginning of University Place.
We got a table asap. That is a huge plus in a ramen joint. The food came to the table pretty fast. The restaurant was comfy because it was not tiny, which I appreciate. We ordered the Tan Tan Ramen and the Curry Ramen. I liked the Curry Ramen better. Usually at other places when I order ramen, I love the Tan Tan Ramen but at Takumi, I was not crazy about the Tan Tan ramen. It was too Miso-y for me. I am not super duper crazy about strong miso flavors. Usually at other ramen joints the Tan Tan is not as strong in miso flavor. Next time if I come back, I would not get the Tan Tan again since the flavor is not to my liking. We were also listening to the conversations by the staff. I thought it sounded like they were speaking Korean. I don't believe they are Japanese.
IMHO, the food was only okay, nothing to run back for.
