Cool bar to grab a drink on a Friday or Saturday night with friends. If your a Rangers fan you will sure to love this place because they are too! Not sure how pricey the drinks are here because I was part of a party who had drink special wrist bands. Staff was very friendly and attentive. DJ played some old skool/current tunes. I was lucky enough to find street parking 2 blocks away but there was a parking garage right there too which would make an easy walk to this place. Would love to come back again.
Kind of funny how few reviews there are for this place considering the traffic this place sees. Makes sense tho, I've been coming here for wing night for literally a decade (crap I'm old) and finally even bothered to think about putting down a review.
This is basically the quintessential dive bar and it hits a good number of notes for what this place is. Wings are great, good size, come out piping hot, decent blue cheese. Wish you could get hotter wings, but they have no levels of heat. The fries are good too. Tap beers are super cold usually which I love. Tons of tv's to catch the game on too.
As far as weekday options go, this is a pretty decent watering hole. I've probably ambled in here occasionally on a weekend night after hitting other bars, but less of a preference for me then.
We recently came here after a day at Six Flags. After being knocked around by rollercoasters all day, we both deserved a beer. Luckily, Rathbones offers a decent selection of beers for a decent price!
I am happy to report that Sam Adams Oktoberfest is officially in stock, which to me means that this gross hot weather is on its way out! With that said, we both got a Sam Seasonal. I was told the burgers were served on English muffins so I was sold. I got myself a turkey burger with cheddar, along with a side of fries. The burger was massive and the fries were good and addicting.
Everyone here is very nice and takes the time to talk with you. There are 2 flat screens outside showing whatever game is on and they ARE a Yankee bar so Mets fans: beware. Inside they have a decent-size bar with some tables and chairs. We opted to sit outside since it was a quiet night in the city and the weather was just right. Bathrooms are clean and not as small as they usually are in a bar environment. The kitchen is also open relatively late and they have specials throughout the week (such as wing night!). Definitely a great place that I'll be visiting again.
Rathbones strikes me as the go-to bar for many UES-ers and I can understand why. A long bar counter with boisterous and friendly bartenders. In fact, the day I met up a few friends here was on race day and the bartender had on a horse head had surrounded by red roses – way to get into it!
However, because it is the go-to spot for so many others, I felt completely out of place. And it just so happened that I was also starving and wanted to get some food. Asking for a table seemed to confuse the server and bit and she scrambled to get us a table that would seat 3 people comfortably. Once our food arrived – a heaping pile of nachos and their wings – I became a much happier camper. Good food, large portions, fast drink service. I do recommend Rathbones, but definitely will stick to this as a watering hole rather than a sit down, eat and drink place.
Pretty solid spot… Highly recommend… Best prices around Upper East Side for happy hour although if anyone sees prices that are better… Let me know… It was a great meet up for me and my co-hort… Got a couple of beers and ribs.. Which surprisingly filled us up… The locals around the area were really nice and even joined our non informative conversations which was pretty cool.. I had a great vibe off of these places compared to some of these other spots on Upper East. Will definitely make this a routine based off of my colleagues feedback as well!
went for drinks with two girlfriends. fun atmosphere. BAND WAS AWESOME. i really want to go back for the music. also, variety of beers to choose from which is always good.
Really fun on Football Sundays!
This spot gets packed so I suggest either waiting a few minutes for a table for mingling with the locals at the bar.
Beer and food here is really cheap and pretty good. Lot's of options for my hungry football-watching stomach!
Great low key bar right by my apartment? Score!!
They have specials every day of the week but the one that caught my eye was 35 cent wings and $3/10 pints/pitchers of Coors on Wednesdays starting at 7pm. My friend and I came at 7:15pm and the waitress said there was already a 40 min wait ahead of us! Trust me, this place is more popular than the average sports bar.
After finally getting seated outside, we ordered 25 wings (15 hot, 10 mild) and some beer. The wings came out quickly and the beer on tap was not watered down at all and actually very fairly priced ($6 for Sam Adams Oktoberfest). Blue cheese with celery and carrots is the default option but feel free to ask for ranch instead.
Practically EVERYONE got the wings, and for good reason. They were pretty average, but can't complain for the price. I'm sure they'll give you extra hot sauce if you ask for it :).
Any uneaten wings they're happy to give you a to-go box. They taste great the next day after softened and warmed up in the microwave.
I will definitely be back and can't wait to try out some of their other specials!
