Ray’s Pizza

“Had the ricotta and mozzarella cheese and also the bacon, ham, sausage slice.”

“I also had some garlic knots, they were fantastic as well.”

“I went for dinner and ordered a plain cheese (you can't tell how great a pizza truly is if it is heavily laden with toppings) to start.”

  1. The pizza here was ok.  It was reheated as is most when you get it by the slice.  But the employees were a little on the rude side and the prices were really high, like $7.50 for a slice of pizza like high.  When I can get a better slice in the $4 range a few blocks away.  Won't be going back here.

  2. They have a huuuuge menu – really substantial selection of Italian food. Convenient for a quick bite!

  3. Ray's Pizza is very popular among the Times Square vagrant scene!

Allow me to preface this review with an important fact: I was unsober when I walked into Ray's Pizza at midnight. That said we begin this review:

Somebody somewhere in Times Square told several of us in our visiting group that if you didn't like Ray's Pizza then "you ain't shit". How do you argue that logic, right? Not being one that offends a hosting city, I found my way to Ray's on 51st.

It is your prototypical Pizza joint, complete with surly local employees which suited me just fine at the hour in question. The menu seemed gargantuan and I was in no mood for formalities so I barked "Two slices of cheese" at the nearest man with a baseball cap and flour all over his shirt. It worked like a charm. Remembering I was not alone, I tripled the order employing the same method and yielded similar positive results. I paid about $20.00 for the slices of pie and we started to nosh.

The Pizza was actually pretty good for the money. No mind blowing material or anything but a perfectly serviceable pie and it soaks up IPA as good as any. Honestly, if it were in OC, it would possibly be the best Pizza joint we had sans wait staff. The marinara has a nice Basil kick to it and the garlic is found in the finish. The crust was nice and chewy with a crusty bottom thanks to the oven. Balanced and delicous.

So, as one wise random man once said among the chaos of Times Square "If y'all don't like Ray's Pizza, then y'all ain't shit". I am bound to return on that sentiment alone.

  4. 100 places across the city called rays, all banking on the name of the original, which seems to be gone from prince street-  any spot that says Original rays is lying, and has crappy pizza.

  5. The place is called Rays pizza not 99cent pizza. If the price of the slices really bother you go somewhere else…

This pizza was really great. The people were really nice and kept high spirits in the store.

They have an enormous selection of pizza and they are good prices. I mean for gods sake they need to make money and what better way to do so than up the price of pizza in a huge touristic location.

Steak and cheese wasn't the best steak and cheese we've had but the amount they give you for the price is really great.

We had the BBQ pizza, spinach feta and cheese. ALL THREE AMAZING.

They have ample space for you to sit down and enjoy your food while watching some tv– really good pizza spot!

  6. Stopped in for a slice around 11am.  They had a number of different topping already pre-made in the window.  I opted for the pepperoni.  The slice was good, but not the best I've had in NYC.  I would try it again, but would like go elsewhere if given the choice.

  7. Not a fancy dining space.. duh.

great for a late night slice when you're feeling hungry.
warning the Jalapenos are REALLY spicy.

  8. Small place and definitely not fancy but does the job when you need a quick bite. Pizza is good – not the cheapest you can find in the city but well worth the price. Staff does a good job in getting your food to you quickly. They are always busy so this is a good thing. Not a great place to go with a large party as it is a little cramped in the dining area. But for a party of 2-3, perfect. I like their pepperoni/sausage slice above other specialty slices I've tried – though the plain, classic cheese is, in my opinion, their best offering.
