Came here this past Friday night as a back up because the other 2 places we went had over an hour wait, thank you other 2 restaurants!
I was pleasantly surprised with how good the food was, as well as the portion sizes.
I got the chicken creole, which was flavorful and the chicken was super tender. My meal came with a salad or soup, and they bring out 3 sides for the table, fresh potato chips, string beans and rice.
Their desert menu was also really good- they had pistachio tartufo which is hard to find, and is my absolute favorite!
Last but not least, the service was awesome- everyone was really nice and attentive.
I definitely recommend this place to anyone who can appreciate a nice home cooked Spanish meal 🙂
Walking in, the ambience is that of a friendly bar. The soccer game is on and a few people dot the bar area. We were showed to our seat in the main dining.
Service was excellent, I should say that off the bat. I ordered the mussels to start which were described as "mussels ajillo" garlic . Cool, I can get on board with that. Sadly, that is the only thing I drop a star on this great experience on. I debated on whether it was Staten Island water on just a day too late – and it was just a day too late on the mussels.
I had the Marisceda de Creole which did not disappoint! I expected a plate and instead got a tureen of these delicious seafood goodness. Seriously, it's enough for family style. It's almost enough for my date who ordered the Chicken Villaroy. This chicken was lightly breaded and cooked in-between with the beschamel sauce. I'm used to the topping of beschamel but never the cooking in the chicken and, let me tell you, it was amazing. The rice and the generous plate of fried platanos are served up to accompany.
Is it like Madrid? Well, I've been there and it may be a stretch that but I can tell you this place serves up some serious good food.
Don't let the location scare you. I know Forest Ave can be a little sketchy but they do have valet.
Judging from previous reviews & a recommendation from a Staten Island native, I was expecting one of the best paellas in NYC. Unfortunately, I need to set the record straight that this was actually one of the worst paellas from a established restaurant that I have ever tasted. The seafood was bland and worst, it did not taste fresh. The rice & veggies were overcooked. I seriously did not eat my meal. Maybe I hit them on a bad night, but this was terrible. On the bright note, the sangria was awesome. However, it was not awesome enough to make me come back.
