“We ordered the Fluke and Lamb Tartare for our "First" which were absolutely phenomenal starters.”

“I will definitely return to try the other dishes that looked interesting such as the sweetbread appetizer and main course of monkfish.”

“We ordered the leek vinaigrette (refreshing), beef tartare (very yummy multi-texture spin with sharp mustard accents) and scallops (very good).”

  1. Second time and the food was vastly better than my first visit.  Service was top-notch from start to finish and the food was delicious.  Don't miss the Comte cheese to finish the meal.  Wine selections are terrific and the pricing is fair for New York.

  2. Formerly R Bar. and yes, R Bar was the divey bar that everyone celebrated their 23rd birthdays at. However, Rebelle is not that divey bar and it's a pretty elegant French restaurant in the Lower East Side. I came here for a drink with a friend after work before MDW. They have quite an extensive list of whiskey, wine and beer. If you're coming here for a late night drink but don't want to be stuck in crowded bar, I definitely recommend checking out Rebelle.

  3. First, great to have another nice place to eat in the Bowery. The decor is fab, white marble and cherry blossoms. J'adore. And the food was excellent. We ordered the leek vinaigrette (refreshing), beef tartare (very yummy multi-texture spin with sharp mustard accents) and scallops (very good). I ordered the chicken which was verrrry tender with a great crispy skin. Maybe a tad too much salt. My friend ordered the hake which they said was super flavorful for being such a healthy pick.

All in all, great choice for dinner post-new museum jaunt or pre-Bowery hotel drinks.

  4. The bottom line: Quality, good tasting food, but small portions.

We shared the bread with ramp butter and a half dozen oysters to start. For the main I had the Pork with fried headcheese. It was a very well executed dish and the flavors and textures were superb.

To be satiated here you probably need to order an appetizer and a main which would bring the per-person total to around $50 without drinks.

In regards to drinks – they have a summer drink special going on. I would ask the server about it. We got some rare old wine for cheap. They open some rare bottles in their cellar every week and offer it at an affordable price point. Very cool program – but it's under the radar so be sure to ask your server.

The staff is super nice here. Our waitress was exemplary and even gave our friends a hook-up in Boston.

All in all this place is serving up some high quality dishes in a very appealing and comfortable atmosphere.

  5. Solid restaurant in the lower east side. The space itself is beautiful, decor of urban minimalism. We ordered the pork and the duck and both while underwhelming looking on the menu were actually incredible. My pork was perfectly cooked and hit multiple flavor notes. I was pleasantly surprised. The wine list was exceptional as well. Overall this is a nice place for a date night. Then head over to Morgansterns for some ice cream.

  6. Came here for drinks and dinner with a friend and loved the ambiance – open yet intimate, candle lit and modern with classic charm. We saw lots of people on dates and it does seem like a good spot to take your boo. My friend and I enjoyed a girl's night and shared the asparagus, fluke, scallops and lobster. The sauce the lobster came in was life changing. It was at once a bit briny like sea water, intensely buttery but light, and deep with rich flavor that I dream about. The lobster arrived in this broth with pieces of cabbage twirled around the lobster like pieces of celebratory confetti. That's how amazing this dish is. The scallops were topped with uni and were equally enjoyable. The dish had two scallops – perfect for sharing. Asparagus was in hollandaise with black truffle and was cooked to perfection. The fluke was a stand out in brown butter with capers. Every dish was so balanced, light and flavorful. I'll be back for sure!

  7. First off, I know this is late, but RIP R Bar. Your stripper poles always made for a great night. However, I'm very glad that R Bar was replaced by a quality restaurant, so as not to besmirch the memory of our beloved late night institution.

Anyways, as previously mentioned, our experience at Rebelle was pretty great. After a less-than-ideal HH nearby, we found ourselves looking for a place for dinner on a Friday night. Thankfully, there were somehow seats at 8:30pm, which we booked promptly for the 4 of us. I was very surprised, given that Rebelle earned a Michelin star, and the menu isn't particularly expensive in the realm of Michelin-starred restaurants. Oh well, we ain't complainin'. The inside was pretty dimly lit, with a full bar, and dark, upholstered booths. Definitely different from R Bar, and slightly more elegant.

We stuck mostly to seafood, with the exception of the foie gras torchon. Besides the torchon, we ordered the lobster with cabbage and butter foam, the kohlrabi, the hake, and seared scallops and uni in squid ink. I really enjoyed the foie gras, as it had a really nice creamy texture, and pretty textbook in what you want from a torchon. My favorite dish of the night though, was easily the lobster, as it had a really nice texture, and the butter foam kept me coming back for more. I'm not even sure it was actually butter foam, but it tasted buttery, and we asked for more bread to sop it all up. Everything else we ordered was very well-executed as well, but the lobster really impressed me.

The waitstaff was very good with recommendations and was very attentive throughout the meal. Given that this was a last minute reservation, my friends had just come from the gym, and were wearing (classy) athletic gear, so I was very impressed at how well the waitstaff hid their judgment. Good on you. The prices, in general, are pretty expensive, but the chefs seem to really know what they're doing, so the value in general is pretty decent. The halibut portion was really skimpy for $20+, so perhaps I need to try the other main dishes.

So incredibly solid. Will definitely be back to try the meatier items, as well as pay homage again to R Bar.

  8. Low key, but higher end spot on the Bowery that is Romantic, intimate, and pumps out some really savory dishes.

Appetizers: Scallop and sea urchin, aka uni, with squid ink and thin apple slices. This tasted so fresh and everything balanced so well together. Comes with two scallops and two uni pieces.  The squid in should be mopped up with your bread, it was tasty.

    Mains:

Roast Chicken – The skin was really crispy and the meat was moist.  If you had Chinese roasted pork belly before, the taste is similar with 5 spices, but in chicken form.  Seasoned just right, with a hint of lemon.

Hake – Fish filet swimming in a zesty delicious broth with bok choy.  Fish was cooked perfectly and medium, but not too raw.

    Dessert:

Mille Feuille – To be shared with two people, but can easily be eaten by one if you're still hungry at the end of your meal.  The huckleberry tasted great mixed with some cream that's not overly sweet.  The pastry part of the dessert was a bit bitter like cocoa or coffee beans, but it was good to mix it with the cream and sweet syrup surrounding the dessert, it was all well balanced.

Service was really attentive, they cleaned the table between each course.  Waters were constantly refilled.

Ambiance is some what modern, but low key and great for special occasions; best to make reservations ahead.  It can be pretentious at times, but eh, just be yourself and enjoy the meal.  Music playing in the background was at the right volume.

Feel like the menu can have more choices, but there's something for everyone from vegetables, chicken, steak, and to seafood.  They have a pretty large selection of wines, but it seemed a bit pricey.  The portions are going to be small, so if you have a big appetite, look elsewhere.  At the end of my meal, I was pretty satisfied.  Not too full, but not as hungry when I first walked in.  My taste buds definitely got woken up after eating some of the dishes from Rebelle.
