Welcome back to the business! Everyone is aware how I feel about Japanese food. It's my number one best preferred food in the world. If I knew the skills of Master Japanese Chefs, I would make my own sashimi but unfortunately, to enjoy sashimi needs to be in the top master chef, the most difficult techniques to master. Whoever thinks that anyone can start opening a sushi restaurant without mastering the skills needs to get his/her head examined. What a pleasure to welcome my favorite restaurant back in business. As always, Yamaguchi has not disappointed us in any way. We understand the first few weeks of the reopening was very hectic. The new restaurant is larger, improved in capacity and everything seems so new. Of course, it's a new place! The best Japanese food ever! I like it raw so each time hubby and I visit here hubby knows what to order for me, my favorite sashimi. I could eat this all day! Hubby and I come here every week but hubby goes there more often because he's doing business in the area, good for him! But he can't leave the restaurant without packing something nice for me. I wish I could be here everyday eating sashimi! Why not, it's healthy with no oil and I don't really dip my sashimi in soy, so I'm good! The sushi bar has expanded, Chef Yamaguchi has 2 assistants now instead of just 1 to help him with sushi and sashimi preparations. I'm impressed they could catch-up with the busy environment and they're lucky to learn the skills from the Master Chef. As always, Mrs. Yamaguchi is a super sweet and caring woman. She knows how busy I am and always remember what I'm working on (at the moment I'm working on eating!) *:) The super sharp couple Mr. & Mrs. Yamaguchi always make my day! The staff and servers are extremely friendly with us. Good thing hubby speaks Japanese a little bit and I know to say a few simple words so it helps to speak with them. However, Yamaguchis hire diversed Asians so it doesn't matter whether you speak Japanese or not, just enjoy dining there. Sushi/sashimi combo is what we usually order, along with some small appetizers and salad. Hubby would eat the sushi and I go with sashimi. The combo works the best. This place is also good for birthdays or any celebrations you can think of. You can have the corner space with a group of friends and families and enjoy the private time. Sometimes when it gets too crowded, hubby and I don't mind sitting at the sushi bar. When I sit at the sushi bar, I get hypnotized, I tend to order more sashimi. We've been coming here a lot since the opening and before that at the old place. Sometimes we come here with friends and family and will continue to do so for the sake of my sashimi! Kampai and Arigato Yamaguchi-San!
Pretty Legit Sushi place.
Japanese Family owners who lost their old Restaurant couple of yrs ago. Relocated couple of blocks down.
They still offer lunch special and nice dinner menu.
I usually order sashimi and their fish is really fresh and butterly delicious!
I've been coming to this place since I was little. A couple years ago, they had a terrible fire accident that forced them to closed down. But now they are back! They were good then, and I'm happy to say that they're amazing now.
I think there isn't one thing that I don't like about this restaurant. The staff are wonderful and the food is delicious. Every time I walk out of the restaurant, I am overly satisfied. My favorite item on the menu is probably the himachi kama, which is the collar of yellowtail fish. The skin is crispy and the inside is amazingly soft. Squeezing the lemon is like adding a cherry on top. It's delicious.
My father always gets the sashimi combo for 2 (to eat by himself btw because it's just that good). I recently tried the fluke, which came with it's own sauce, and I killed it. Ate every single one, and I wanted more. I think I'll go back soon just to eat that.
P.S: Their rice is awesome. Just plain rice. It's soft, warm, and has so much moisture.
One word, fantastic. Who would think that an old school traditionalist Japanese restaurant would exist on the north shore of Long Island? Not this guy, but boy am I glad this place exists.
This is a small restaurant with maybe about 15 tables and has a very focused traditional Japanese menu ranging from sushi, hot pot and noodles. The omakase was fantastic and fresh including maguro, tataki, uni as well as tuna rolls and was very reasonable for $54 bucks. Chirashi was also fresh and tasty. This place reminds of old Japanese restaurants that existed in Manhattan during the 80's. The owners really know how to do traditional Japanese food. Highly recommended.
Love that this place is back in business! Sushi and sashimi are still as fresh and as delicious as I remember it, though I think the prices have gone up a bit. Still one of the very very few Japanese restaurants that are still owned and operated by actual Japanese! Love the traditional Japanese hot dishes they offer as well. And I have no idea what they do to their steaks but impressed with how they can get it to be crispy and seared on the outside and still rare and bloody on the inside!
The acoustics are just as bad at the new location as it was in the old location so most of the meal was eaten in silence or you had to literally yell at your dinner guests to get a word in with them across the table.
