Three Carnitas tacos served with a dollop of refried beans and a cup plus of rice.
All in all decent flavor for the tacos, served in corn tortillas that the server said was gluten free ( let's hope so). Not over stuffed by any means an almost skimpy serving especially for the price ( even considering its JFK ) $ 16 is too much. The beans and rice were average. An OK three stars fits, but IMO you would be better served getting a drink and snack at one of CIBO Express stands nearby.
The Quick: Super mediocre and kind of pricey, even for an airport. My meal was okay but considering how many good options there are at airports now I would not recommend. But if you're like me, you'll make the mistake of checking yelp after sitting. Rookie move!
I know not to expect much from an airport restaurant but c'mon, sometimes you just have to try a bit harder. This tex-mex joint sits at the end of the JetBlue terminal at JFK and it's pretty hard to eat here. Tacos are dry, meats are salty, service is spotty, I mean it's just a recipe for a crappy meal. That and it's about 15 bucks a dish. The burrito was decent but the rest of the meal was almost inedible. The carnitas was dry and salty and the torta was like a salt lick. Eating at JFK sucks no matter where you go so I'd say to steer clear and go somewhere like McDonalds (yikes, its really that bad).
The owner/manager eliminated the position at the takeout counter because he had to pay them minimum wage. Now, the bartender must take all the to go orders because he/she is employed at the much lower bartender/tip wage.
Messed up and inconvenient for customers. I rarely go here anymore.
I am getting better at just walking out after bad service or no service. Aside from waiting longer than I should have to see a server, she wasn't friendly at all, and they did not even have items on the menu that I wanted to eat. So I got up and told her I would be eating somewhere else. The waitress practically rolled her eyes at me and walked away.
Really nice breakfasts here this early AM. Our server was run off her legs, but really nice. They were willing to give me extra spinach in my excellent veggie omelette. The home fries were crispy and piping hot.
The sign says Mexican, but this place makes a rockin' breakfast!
