I start many mornings with a latte from Rex, plus or minus a blueberry muffin. Their coffee is strong without being too sweet (unlike the Starbucks across the street). Blueberry muffin is full of blueberries, fluffy, not overly sweet (obviously, I have a problem with things being too sweet).
Sandwiches are good, too: I've tried both their gravlox and egg salad sandwiches, and I'm a fan of both. $1 with a sandwich gets you an iced tea.
They have a stamp card: 10 coffees and you get one free drink. Friendly service.
Another stop of my coffee adventure in this area! The Spanish exotic decor really hit me! And as they said – happy "cinco de mayo".
Got my daily americano and tried their sample cake. However what caught my attention the most was their "game of scones" and "talking muffin". Should have gotten one and let it talk 😉
Nothing could beat a cup of hot espresso in a chilly morning, and Rex did it in a better way.
If only I lived closer to this place! I saw this place on Yelp, so I ventured over to grab a quick lunch and do some work. Lady at the counter was super friendly! She was patient enough to explain their sandwich offerings to me, and throughout my time there she also made a lot of friendly conversation with other customers. I got the Egg Salad Sandwich ($7) and an Iced Latte ($4.50) with Almond Milk (+$0.50) (they don't have soy milk). Sandwich was really worth the value, and they didn't skimp at all on the filling. Coffee was also solid.
Seating is available, but quite limited – two large tables that probably fit 4-6people. Wifi is available, although my laptop's connection kept breaking off. Other people didn't seem to have a problem though, so I think it's one-off. Place gets a lot of natural sunlight (which I love) and I'll definitely go back if I'm around the area!
Expensive and not worth it. A basic sandwich with 2 eggs is $3.50. Cheap right? Wait til you add things…we got chorizo, bacon and double cheese. Total was $8.50. Being close to $9 we thought the sandwich would be substantial, however after about a 10 minute wait – we received a thin sandwich with so little cheese we could barely taste it. We ended up grabbing a bacon egg and cheese bagel from the corner market next door for $3 and it was definitely more tasty and filling.
The minute I walked in, the only word that flooded my mind was Hipster. This upscale tiny cafe is great and the cashier was super friendly. I got an iced mocha and a roast beef which were both exactly what I expected from a place like this. Well packaged to go and my pickle was even put into its own plastic baggie, haha. Anyway, when I say it's tiny, I mean there's two tables that occupy half the space and while you wait for your food you are always in the way. Despite this, thumbs up from me for a $15 lunch!
I came here for a quick coffee in between destinations. They serve Counter Culture, which is a solid brand. No complaints.
The decor is pretty minimal here, and it took me a while to find the menu (to the left, high up on the wall). There are not too many seats here, but if you're looking for minimal distractions and can snag a table, this spot is a good bet.
Rex was my Saturday ritual when living in HK. Almond milk latte + bfast sandwich on a croissant (their bfast sandwiches are doooope). Add the avo, add the bacon, add the cheese, add salt pepper and ketchup and your hangover is cured. Previously these bfast sandwiches were only available on the weekends and now you can indulge every day (before 11AM weekedays) and noon (weekends). Definitely try!
Their coffee is great too. Iced trinks to stay served in a mason jar. Their pastries are pretty awesome too. One added bonus … also doubles as a nice little vantage point for the creatures of 10th avenue.
Between Rex, Khave, and this italian coffee shop on 52 (forget the name) your coffee fixin in HK is covered.
Loved the coffee and service here. It sounds like their blends change pretty frequently. Good place to get some work done. The area isn't too big, but most people seemed to get take-out.
