  1. I purchase three (3) meals to try out as much as I could costing me a little over $18. All of the food tasted cheap. For instance, the maduros (plantains) tasted like chicken because the oil they used to fry them was previously used/old oil they had fried chicken with. Even the rice wasn't up to par. I'm Dominican and understand not all Dominican food tastes the same. I'm not bothered with how they seasoned their meal. I'm more bothered how they cooked and that they reused cooking products to save money and time. The chicken tasted like it had some kind of steak in it. I'm guessing they used the same grill/pot to cook whatever other meat and didn't clean it in between. The inside of the shop has nowhere to sit and eat. It's a small messy location that is not inviting at all. I wonder how they got an A rating. I wonder why I even ordered after seeing it the way it was. I will definitely not return.

  2. Spanish food will always have a place in my hearty digestive system since growing up in the L.E.S. of NYC. Living in far east of Queens, finding a good…really good…Spanish food is far and few in between.

The Rice and Beans Restaurant is conveniently located on Springfield Blvd off 91st Ave and near Hillside Ave (Queens Village). It's a small restaurant in a row of mom/pop businesses.

The food we ordered: Chicken Stew, Beef Stew and Rib Stew platters include plantains, yellow rice and side salads were some of the best Spanish food ever!

The owner was so nice and wanted me to come for more, he include a free order of roasted chicken…awesome…I wouldn't mind free Oxtail Stew but it's on of the items that quickly sells out.

The prices are very reasonable from the generous portions served.

Rich and Beans is strictly a "take out" restaurant and will recommend to fellow yelpers…

  3. Walking my way to work….I came in and decide to take lunch to go. Half of a rotisserie chicken, yellow rice and red beans. Apparently this come with either a green salad or a potato salad. Enough food for 2 days worth of lunch only $7! And it taste good too!! So definitely found a new spot in this neighborhood for Dominican food!

  4. This is a small "hole in the wall" place but nevertheless very good. I've been eating here for many years. The food is always fresh and tastes well.

In the summer, I enjoy their naturally squeezed juice.

There is always parking outside, no long lines and very fairly priced. It's somewhere to go grab take out instead of getting Chinese or pizza, just a different something.

  5. Walking at lunch time today and i took noticed that the store is undergoing a full renovation. It seems like they are trying to reposition counters and there is a new hot buffet which only makes the food much more appetizing and presentable. I took 2 lunch specials and  both plates were packed to the rim. I had a lunch platter of pernil with rice and peas and another with pernil, yuca and some mangu. I noticed today they had stew lork ribs, unfortunately i really had no space in my stomach for it. As always everyone at the counter provides a warm welcome and fast service.
To the management of the store, thank you for always making great food. In case you were wondering the lunch special was $7.50 each

  6. A few excerpts that I agree with from other reviews:

    "Hole in the wall"
    "Local gem"
"Don't let the outside fool you"

Rice & Beans is easy to miss, but will be tough to avoid once you try their food. It is takeout only, so don't expect to spend too much time here. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and two chicken empanadas for lunch. The sandwich, toasted and pressed, was savory and cheesy throughout the last bite. Definitely filling and worth the wait. The empanadas were a little overdone, but had plenty of filling to make up for it; though, I must note that they gave me FOUR beef empanadas instead of two chicken… So, I really can't complain.

There was a line of guests who were getting platters of everything on the menu. The staff was very personable and greeted everyone with warmth and excitement.

I was just a bit disappointed that they were out of tres leches cake.. And it seemed to be that way for a while. I will definitely recommend & be back myself to try some other entrees.

  7. I'm leaving this review after several visits since my initial review. I'm pleased to say that the food has been consistently good and generously served each and every time. I've yet to have a single bad meal or experience. The staff work efficiently, even in tight quarters and when the place is lined up with customers waiting their turn to be served.

I cannot think of another local place that I would choose to dine at and get a solid, home cooked tasting meal for just over $6. Again, that's factoring in the quantity of food they give you for that price. Honestly, even if they charged a dollar or two more for what they give you, I would gladly pay the increased price. I'm just hoping they can sustain this place for many years to come. I know how expensive it is to operate a restaurant in the New York City area and sometimes low prices equal small profit margins.

If it sounds like I'm heaping praise on this restaurant…I am. Well deservedly so!

  8. This is my go to restaurant when  I am in the mood for some good Spanish food. The outside of the restaurant looks sketchy, but the food is delicious!
