  1. The owner and staff were so sweet and passionate and for that reason I want to see them do well.

Innovative flavors and toppings. Also a soft serve ice cream made from …coconut milk ..I think. It's dairy free and worth a try.

Many different toppings though not sure it's comparable to their LES competitor.

  2. Yummy rice pudding with a good amount of vegan selections. They had at least 5-6 different vegan flavors (: Most places with vegan options just have that one token flavor, so thank you Rice Cream Shoppe! The non-dairy substitute they use is soy milk FYI. The rum raisin flavor was my favorite! Followed by mint chocolate chip.

You are allowed to sample the flavors, and you can mix 2 flavors for your order!

They also had a brand new "vegan gelato" soft serve machine that used rice milk. It was okay- a little on the icy rather than creamy side. Did not taste like gelato. I think rice milk is lower in fat and harder to create that creamy texture. They also serve coffee/ espresso. Did not try it though.

I know many reviews say it is kinda pricey. I think $6 for a small- but the portion is pretty huge. Honestly even the small was really filling and I could barely finish half! If you are full after a meal and want something sweet, I recommend just getting the kids cup size! There is an upcharge for all vegan flavors :/

I never thought rice pudding would become a popular dessert, but they made it work.

  3. I stopped in here on the way back from dinner because I wanted something sweet. The girl working was very nice and explained how it all worked (which ones were vegan and gluten free). The shop was empty and she seemed a little too excited to have a customer.

You can sample the puddings which is nice. That's where it went down hill. First I tried the coconut flavor. It was terrible–tasting of overpowering artificial coconut. It didn't help when I was told it was their most popular flavor. I moved on to a second flavor. I think it was rocky road and it was also terrible. The flavor was one note and over powering.

Not wanting to keep sampling, I just decided on the plain since I would have felt bad if I left without buying something. A small was 6.25 plus tax. The servicing size was large but who wants that much bland rice pudding to begin with? I can get a cronut for $5.5 and it's hard when a 5.5 donut is cheap in comparison.

  4. Is rice pudding the next big dessert trend?? I really hope so!

Before Rice Cream Shoppe, there was only Rice to Riches for all of us who love rice pudding. And while I'm a big fan of Rice to Riches, I'm happy to see there's a new option in town too!

Rice Cream Shoppe has a cute little store in Greenwich area, close to By Chloe and other trendy food spots. The ordering process is simple: pick your size, rice pudding flavor, and toppings. A small is $6.25 while a large is $7.25. You also have the option to get a quart (!) for $20. Flavors come in a deliciously wide range, from maiz (corn) to s'mores to tiramisu, along with gluten-free options and special flavors that rotate daily. On my last visit, the daily flavors were cappuccino and biscotti. Toppings include fresh fruit, toasted coconut, crushed graham cracker, and other such goodies.

The best thing about this place (and Rice to Riches) is that they offer samples! Simply ask to try a flavor and they'll happily give you a spoonful. It's a great way to try some of the more unusual flavors that you're unsure of. For me, that flavor was maiz, which became my new favorite type of rice pudding. Sweet corn pairs perfectly with their creamy rice pudding. I've tried a couple other flavors and all are the perfect consistency and sweetness.

Hoping the trend continues and more rice pudding places pop up! The staff here is friendly and helpful, which is a big plus, and the prices are right (slightly cheaper than Rice to Riches too). I love a place that picks one thing and does it well, and Rice Cream Shoppe does that for rice pudding.

  5. I've never been a fan of rice pudding, but my friend requested this particular dessert. Since she'd been to Rice to Riches, I suggested this place because I'd walked by it before on my way to the NYU campus.

By 10PM, many of their flavors were out or barely available, which was disappointing. The baci (chocolate) flavor that my friend requested was almost out and not even enough to fill up a small bowl, but the employee behind the counter was kind enough to have her choose another flavor to fill up her bowl with. I ended up getting the tiramisu, one of the few options that I tried and found quite tasty. I ordered it in a kid size which I found was plenty enough for one person!

As for other flavors, I tried a bit of my friend's cookie dough, but didn't really think it tasted like cookie dough. I also had a bit of the strawberry rice pudding which was a bit tart, but surprisingly delicious.

Not sure if I will be back yet, but they do have a fun loyalty program that you can sign up quickly with using your phone number.

  6. For a while now when it came to dessert, I've always chosen anything other than Rice Pudding.  So you can probably guess that I didn't ride the "Rice to Riches" wagon.

Although, I was very excited about trying THIS place!  A few days before making my way over here, I've been seeing whole bunch of posts of their "Pudding Pockets" which is a choice of their signature Rice Pudding flavors stuffed into a brioche bun.

My first experience with this was at a Gelato joint, where they stuffed Gelato into that same sort of bun, and I loved it!

I've gotta say, this rice pudding pocket wasn't mind blowing, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'd even go so far as to say that it changed the Rice Pudding game for me.

Definitely looking forward to trying their other flavors!

  7. AMAZING VEGAN OPTIONS. Denise was AMAZING.  Let us try all options and was SO friendly and attentive. Amazing store amazing product!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

  8. Rice Cream Shoppe is a melting pot of rice pudding flavors. Literally about twenty different flavors to choose from.

I came in and was so indecisive on what to get. Good thing they offered samples before picking out which one to order. I fell for the Dulce de Leche. It wasn't as sweet, but I liked it that way. It was perfect. One of the staff recommended the Piña Colada because it was her favorite… And that gave me a reason to come back and try some more!
