Rice Star

A solid choice and an old-reliable. Been here countless times but I can't get too excited about it or most other restaurants where I live. If you notice, most of my reviews for Westchester restaurants are three star. Good but not great. Thats why I love going to Manhattan to eat…all those wonderful exciting places to go to. Anyway, this is a good place to eat at before catching a movie..it's another one of those Chinese/Japanese combos, which means sushi or a cut roll for an app and general tso's chicken for an entree.
If you're shopping or going to the movies in on the southern end of the Central Avenue shopping corridor, Rice Star hits the spot. Nothing fancy or special. But service is fast and food is pretty fresh. It's also easy to find, since it's at the rear of a large shopping strip.
This is a Taiwanese-style Chinese restaurant, which means that it also serves sushi. We like the scallion pancakes, the veggie stir fry dishes, the fried rice and California rolls. There's a United Artists multiplex a few doors away that brings Rice Star so much business that the movie schedule is posted on the restaurant's front door.
One of the better Chinese/Japanese places I've had the pleasure of going to in this area.
Had the chicken with broccoli lunch special the last time. It came with a very flavorful wonton soup. The entree was delicious with fresh chicken and very fresh broccoli. The fried rice was also delicious. The price was right as well. $7 for a very good lunch is well worth it.
I also recommend the General Tso's chicken as well as the dumplings. Dying to order from the Japanese side soon.
The service was good, I was surprised when I realized we walked in when they were closing. But who closes that early!?!? The food was ok. Nothing I would travel for. The sushi roll I had was great! and well presented.
Bro had the teriyaki chicken was pretty bad. The sauce was watery as a result the chicken was really bland. The house rice was great. The chicken and broccoli was really tasty.
Overall ok, if in a bind.
My parents love eating here. We often drop in for a quick sit-down dinner if we have company at the house and want to luxuriate without having to spend a lot of money. This place is about two steps up from standard Chinese takeout. There is ample seating and I like that they have incorporated a sushi bar to make it feel a bit fancier. But the cooked food to me is exactly like Chinese takeout, just served on a plate and twice as expensive. With that said, the food is still pretty good. There's nothing wrong with good Chinese takeout. I just personally don't feel it warrants the $15+ per plate price tag by any means. The staff though is friendly and professional, so I don't mind coming here whenever my parents are footing the bill 🙂 I just wouldn't go out of my way for it.
This was the worst Chinese experience we've ever had. We stopped working in for a quick lunch special, I got the usual chicken broccoli n my husband had chicken cashew. Both dishes were not very tasty, the sauces were absolutely the same n both dishes were swimming in greasy puddles of oil. We will not be back
This is a pretty basic Chinese-Japanese restaurant. Located in one of the many strip malls in Central Ave, but it's actually located in the back strip of this particular one – you can't see it from the street but there is a sign letting you know it's location.
The restaurant itself is modestly decorated, nothing too in your face bordering on being a little drab (but not offensive). There is a lot of seating but the dining room was only a third full when we were there; most people coming in were picking up take-out orders.
Food was okay – we went with mostly Chinese dishes. I started with the wonton soup and had my staple Chinese food entree chicken with broccoli. It was good but not amazing. Service was also fine.
I'm not sure if I would come back, it's okay if you're in the area but you can find better elsewhere.
