  1. I gave them a 3 star rating it was OK! ambiance was modern and nicely furnished.

    service was quick and efficient.

    food was OK nothing special.

  2. I'm embarrassed to say that I've been living in the Slope for over 3 years now and I only just recently tried Rice.  It's really a shame that I've been sleeping on this place because their food is quite good.

I had the Tom Kha soup and Pad Ki Mow (Drunken Noodle), and both were very flavorful.  The soup was not the spiciest I've had, but it had decent kick and the broth was rich and hearty.  The noodles were excellent, very savory and well prepared.  I would have appreciated a slightly bigger portion of the noodles, but it was acceptable.

I have been a devout customer of Sai Thai Kitchen since they opened, but my allegiances may have been thrown into question after this meal.  I look forward to exploring more of the menu to really see what's up and decide who will wear the crown.

  3. Eh. Chicken satay was decent and the red curry was pretty good. Tom Yum soup was awful – glad I asked for extra spicy or it would have had no taste at all.  Duck roll was disappointing: I was expecting a crispy exterior and got a flour tortilla basically and the filling was rubbery and tasteless. The dipping sauce was good. Best part of the meal was the $5 pint of beer.

  4. I have been coming here for years now. If you are looking for an affordable, and good Thai restaurant with a nice ambiance, this is the place! I also come here out of convenience because it's close enough to my home. The chicken wings, and curry puffs are their best appetizers. The wings are different with a sweet, tangy sauce and incredibly crispy. The puffs basically melt in your mouth, and are not overwhelming. Massaman curry with sticky rice hits the spot every time.

    CONS:
The waitress brought me my check and did not even ask if I wanted dessert. I know I was New Years (holiday) but as a customer, why be deprived of my coconut rice pudding????! It was frustrating because my first question as I sat down was, "do you still have coconut rice pudding in those small cups?! :)"

Another recent experience that made me upset that I felt I needed to add in this review is when my Mother said that she did not want rice that was spicy. Her entree had bell peppers, and instead of a bell pepper, it was an extremely hot pepper used for the entire dish. My Mother was sick, the waitress had an attitude (even before the pepper). She loves spicy food but this was extreme. Her nose was running, eyes watering, and entire face was red. We brought this to her attention, and as opposed to bringing my mom a lemon, or a glass of milk, she did nothing. She did not even refill the water (not that it helps). She did offer a free dessert to help (I guess this was nice). The manager was walking around, did not apologize (felt like he should have).

Did I mention it was the same waitress? She was all smiles for the men sitting next to us.

  5. Met a friend here who worked in the area in the past, and was a frequent customer. Started off with the $15 appetizer sampler tray and an order of wings. Wings were excellent, as other reviewers have noted. App Sampler tray was so so..  We both felt it was lots of similar fillings, with slight spice adjustments, all presented in different 'wrappers' or coatings. the tempura style shrimp was the winner here. For entree, we split a Garlic Roasted Duck and a order of Pineapple Fried rice with shrimp. Both were good, but….  We both were craving that crunchy chinese duck skin. It may have been there, but the duck was covered in a sauce. Tasted great though.. I'm not a Thai food connoisseur, but I've heard that it's usually spiced pretty well. The shrimp in the pineapple fried rice seemed to be steamed or boiled separately of the rice, then added to it. No seasoning or coloring at all to the shrimp, which I found odd..  The pineapple rice itself is great. Not the big portions they used to serve either. My friend noticed some other changes in the resturant, so we asked  about ownership. We were told it recently changed hands. We both felt we'd stop
In again but wouldn't go out of our way to do so.,

  6. I'm newly addicted to the lunch special at Rice, and I know I'm not alone in this. For a little less than 8 bucks you can get a variety of entrees served alongside soup or salad with a Spring roll- and not your average lunch special portions! I've returned here a few times because not only is the food itself super flavorful and delicious and with huge portions as mentioned, but because they are cognizant and sensitive to allergies without hesitation. Unlike the majority of Vietnamese/Thai places I've been to  (where spots of  glutteny soy sauce can linger) I have never gotten sick after eating here- consistently!

  7. Not bad if you're having a craving forThai during lunch! I can't complain since I do love chicken pad thai. But I must say the lunch special isn't worth it. It doesn't get me full, satisfying yes, full not so much. The thai iced tea was okay too.

  8. Got lured in by the cheap lunch special – don't make the same mistake!

It smelled weird inside, but there were a lot of people there so we figured it must be decent. Wrong again!

The food was overall pretty blah, but the seitan was THE WORST I've ever experienced. They clearly had no idea what to do with it and shouldn't have tried. It was crispy and chewy at the same time, and not in a good way. Service was also meh.
