Do I have to spell it out?! Go and buy dumplings from the people who actually make them! There is NO reason why 6 dumplings have any business being $6. You and I both know that. Or maybe you don't. And in that case, I'm hereby making a public service announcement: Rickshaw = highway robbery when you can find delicious handmade dumplings right at the source in Chinatown for $1. That's 5 fresh and tasties for $1. You do the math. Not to mention the bag of 50 frozen dumplings for the economical price of $9. Highway robbery…
I've always wanted to try 'em when I saw their trucks pass by & finally had the chance after a visit to the High Line. Admittedly, they were my second choice since I wanted to try the Kimchi Taco truck.
These dumplings were okay & the lady who helped me was really nice, but they're nothing to write home about. I had the chicken & basil dumpling with the peanut sauce, cost about $6. My girlfriend had the pork with chives & enjoyed that a lot. The dumplings were received warm and then were quickly cold by the time I reached my 2nd dumpling. I guess the best advice is to eat them quickly?
Probably won't be returning again b/c I can make my own batch of 50+ dumplings at home for what I paid for these 6 pieces, but they were all right and satisfied an empty tummy.
Flavor was described by my muse as akin to eating dumplings from the frozen isle in the Asian supermarket and I completely agree. While this still puts them in the edible range, You may want to consider buying them from the freezer since the privilege of having the truck folks warm them for you will cost you $6 for 6. Good god, they must be making a killing!
