  1. Good gum selection and they do cashback with no debit charge minimum. So there's that.

  2. In the never-ending battle between CVS, Duane Reade, Walgreens and Rite Aid you soon realize they are really all basically the same. Well, they are basically the same in that you can always get most anything there however, the other three are always cleaner than your average Rite Aid in my experience and this location is not an anomaly in that regard.

Yes, they have a wide variety of everything under the sun. No, it is not organized well at all and seemingly cramped together in many spots making two people in a shampoo row like a clown car. No, it does not seem clean. It is not like cobwebs are hanging from the ceiling and there is garbage everywhere, but in assessing when the last time this place was cleaned starts a guess in months, it just does not seem "fresh."

In the end, I usually get what I need here, but I could only call the service adequate in that "I have no interest in ringing you up" type of way.

  3. Much like a Duane Reade, you can satisfy most of your toiletry and cleaning supply needs here at Rite Aid. They also stock an extensive collection of candy canes, and birthday cards that your lady friend might look at for entirely too long.*

The staff is actually fairly nice, at least in my experience. When I paid for an $11 purchase with a credit card and I expressed my joy at not having to scrawl some semblance of my name with that useless electric pen, the cashier and I shared a moment of mutual satisfaction.

Best of all, Rite Aid has Monopoly, the card game! People, if you like Monopoly, you should get all over this. It's like $7 and it never takes that long, which is of course everyone's main problem with Monopoly. It's the best.

*Don't even gently urge her to move a bit quicker, because it will turn out much worse for you than you ever imagined. I have scars.

  4. If you like dirty stores, rude cashiers and products that appear used or broken being sold on shelves, then this is the place for you.

  5. Came here last Sunday around 4pm ish. The customer service here is so bad it's almost laughable! Reminds me of employees at said fast food chains / dead end jobs. While waiting on line to purchase some items, there was an elderly lady at the front. Obviously there was some type of quarrel but if you work there, you shouldn't roll your eyes at the customer, that's just a no-no. Not to mention that the same employee had slammed one of the items we were purchasing to get our attention. She seemed to be having a bad day.

The staff should also learn not to call female customers " sir " . I actually pointed that out to him and he just started laughing.

This place needs refresher course in customer service.

  6. Truly the worst pharmacy in Brooklyn. They are barely open long enough for people to get prescriptions (what isn't 24 hours in NYC?!).

I'm currently sitting here waiting for the pharmacist and she is 20 minutes late. So if I can't go after work and I can't go before work, when am I supposed to go? It makes no sense! It's the most frustrating customer service experience I've ever had with a large company.

Anyone know of a better pharmacy in Cobble Hill? Because this one is terrible.

  7. Lapin and I came here to kill some time while waiting for our takeout order from Spice across the street to be ready. The store was nicely stocked, decently organized and fairly clean but there was only two cashiers working in the entire store. We had purchased eggs that was listed for $1.49 on the sticker but was more when we went to check out.

  8. This is really a 2.5 place, but I'll round up rather than down.  They generally have almost everything I need so I can get it one trip.  (Not like the stupid Rite Aid on 7th Avenue, which is always out of half the stuff I want so I have to make another trip to another drugstore, which is awful. Stupid 7th Avenue Rite Aid!)

Anyway, there always seems to be a line of people with one check out person when I am there.  Today, when I wanted to buy one tube of toothpaste, I was the second person in line and I had to wait a long time because the check out dude (who was very friendly, don't get me wrong) but I had to wait while he:

    1) took a call on his cell phone
    2) chatted with a woman who came in and gave him a package, mysteriously shrouded in a black plastic bag
    3) talked to the other Rite Aid guy standing right beside him (but not operating a register)

So I'm waiting for him to finish ringing up the lady in front of me and right as he's done with her, he tells his buddy to open a register. By this point there's a bunch of people in line.  Seems like he could have opened that other register a few minutes earlier.

Anyway, it's not a horrible place, but it could use those automatic cash registers like they have at CVS.  I like those because you never have to wait and it's much faster than with a human.
