  1. OK, so I am always willing to give another chance to just about any place.  This Rite Aid, however, will never be visited again.  Awful lines, horrible layout, rude employees, and that ever present funky smell that lies somewhere between sewage, shampoo, and Korean BBQ**.

*throwing up a little in my mouth*

    **I like Korean BBQ restaurants.

  2. Let me preface this by saying I went to pharmacy school and interned in retail and hospital pharmacy for YEARS.  I know a bit about what qualifies as a competent pharmacy staff and let me tell you…You won't find that here.
I also should mention that I'm normally a fan of Rite Aid pharmacies as I think their staff is normally very helpful and I've never had a problem in the past.  Until now.

Rewind to approximately 5 weeks ago.  I need a refill on my prescription which was originally filled in Massachusetts.  I call Rite Aid, speak to the pharmacy and they inform me…No problem!  The Rx will be transferred and I don't need to do anything else.  Now, fast foward to this weekend.  I call Rite Aid in Boston, since I was up there, to refill the prescription which, before this NYC Rite Aid got their hands on it, had 7 refills.  Boston Rite Aid can't fill it.  Why?  NYC Rite Aid zero'ed out my refills.  I call NYC Rite Aid.  They inform me that NY state law only allows one refill on out of state prescriptions.  Okay, that's great but can you add in my 7 refills so I can fill it in MA?  Nope.  I'm SOL.  Would've been nice to know that before I let you fill the Rx.  Thanks for the help douchebags.

  3. Great stock. Poor customer engagement. Lines are a mess too. It wasn't clearly organized… but ehhhh it is a pharmacy and I was getting a snack not a blood transfusion.

This was my email to RA customer service in response to their comment on my review.

"Thanks for your prompt response. My experience with this store was great as far as stock is concerned. Great selection of everything! BUT the way the lines are set up makes no sense. Other reviewers agree so this seems to be an issue you've been made aware of in the past.

The reps on the floor are not very engaging BUT my cashier actually had her cell by her and checked it instead of calling me up to pay. When at the register personal phones should not be visible. Me paying should be your only priority".

  4. Stopped here to pick up drinks on our way back to the W on 47th & Broadway after picking up dinner from Empanada Mama on 9th & 51st.

It's a bit on the cramped side, slightly cluttered, and surprisingly has a line at 11:30pm on a weeknight in the first week of March. Still, from an out of towner's perspective, it's a much better place to buy essentials than anywhere within a one block radius of Times Square.

  5. I usually come here late at night for some reason as this is my go to store for the little things:  drinks, toiletries, etc.  The lines here during the day are murder and for some reason they cannot get enough cashiers to bring the place down.  The prices here are shockingly better than the 3 Duane Reeds that are all located in a 3 block radius.  Examples of cheaper (and thus more convenient) products include deoderant (50 cents) and my favorite gatorade (2 Liters) is only $1.99 here on special.  Now that is pure hotness and automatically gives this place the upper edge in my limited book of convenience store preference.

On the bad side, this place is poorly maintained, and there have been various shoplifting incidents in which I have witnessed the security guard having to tackle down and restrain the would be offenders till police have arrived.  I once was part of 5 guys taking down this big filthy, sweaty, guy who was shoplifting antiacids to cook some meth at home.  It was intense and the first time I ever put a guy in a wrist lock while stepping on his ankle.  Thank goodness he wasn't hurt, just higher than a kite.

  6. This place is literally right next to my apartment. Otherwise, it's not too nice of a Rite Aid. It's small, narrow, and the checkout line is inefficient as hell. Ok, I understand that you have separate lines for each register, but WHY put a shelf right in the middle of where people are lining up!?! I've never really seen any sales going on here, and actually when I think of it, it's cheaper to order everything on Amazon.

The nice thing is that they do have most of the household items that you do need. The beer selection is decent too, so when I fell lazy it only takes me 5 min to go out and be back at home with alcohol. Maybe I'm biased because I love Duane Reade, but this place needs a serious makeover.

  7. Crowded and slow and without any self checkout options.  Generally dirty and disorganized too.

Very poor layout, especially with regard to checkouts.  They should just do one line with little ropes rather than try to have three lines running perpendicular to traffic patterns.  It's impassable at times.

However, they did have the battery I was looking for along everything else I needed and they don't lock up their razors, so I have to give them props for that..  The bottom line is if I can get what I need, then I give a decent rating so that's why three stars.
