  1. Typical diner. Food is not bad, especially your typical diner cuisine, burgers, grilled cheese, breakfast etc… Though I have yet to have a bubbly happy server, I've had plenty of grumpy ones. I'll go back if it's convenient but I won't rush out the door anytime soon.

  2. River Edge Diner is meh. Extremely outdated with an unenthusiastic staff. As far as diner's go, this one falls short. It might be that people come here for nostalgic reasons (kinda like how I feel about the old Suburban Diner in Paramus). But all in all their food is eh. I feel like I can just go to another diner somewhere else and get better food easily. River Edge really needs to step up their competition but I guess because they're in such a busy location and have been around for so long that they have a steady flow of customers.  Had their clam chowder and it was watery. Had their greek village salad and the proportions were wrong (too many tomatoes, not enough cucumbers and red onions).  Had their chicken sandwich and I think it was a heated up patty.

If you're going to eat here, you should stick to the basics: burgers, eggs and pancakes.

I'd come back here in the future because I'm pretty sure it's 24/7 which is always awesome and their prices are reasonable but that's about all that's keeping me as a customer.  Other than that, you can go to just about any other diner in the vicinity and get better food.

  3. Dated interior, okay service, lukewarm food bordering on bleh. If you like Piccadilly then this is your place.
My meatloaf tasted like it was made with some liver and there was some Plastic wrap baked into it. Gross.
I know it's a diner and all but everything from their desserts to their entrees tasted tired and worse than uninspired.
It was warm though. That was nice.

  4. I've been here several times and the past time I came was much better than in the past so I'm updating the review & giving them another star.

Riveredge Diner is your typical jersey diner. They have a huge parking lot and the diner itself is large inside. It has 4 different rooms. The hostess doesn't smile at all, but our waitress DAWN was awesome!!!! Such a good waitress. Super friendly & quick, our food came out in less then 10 minutes and the diner was packed.

I had a Reuben wrap with potato salad. It was really delicious. Boyfriend had a turkey burger and his mom had a gyro. They both said their food was good.

Overall, good diner. Still not my favorite in jersey but it's a good choice!

  5. Their fresh fish is always good.  Their New England Clam Chowder was questionable 11/9/2010.
NE Clam Chowder is always WHITE, with potato, celery, etc..and should not be CREAM OF CHICKEN WITH ADDED CLAMS!!  Although there were no pieces of chicken, there were pieces of clam, but with a chickeny taste and smell.  That's odd.  I guess this is how an Indian "chef" figures it out when a Greek guy writes the recipie.  "Sanking you please, it's Greek to me"
The River Edge Diner has been open in River Edge for 50 years (+ / -).

UPDATE:  It was revealed to me several months later, that the chowder WAS mixed with the cream of chicken!!!

    Enjoy

  6. The Story: I came here for Brunch with my Brother and Boyfriend.

Food: The food is actually pretty average. It is definitely better than IHOP but there is nothing outstanding about anything.

Price: Average price for a diner in Northern NJ.

Decor:  The decor is outdated but I guess that's part of its charm? (sorry, its not charming)

Service: This is where it earns the stars for a typical diner in NJ but alas they failed…so badly. There were THREE of us, we were served TWO glasses of water (wtf?) and my water wasn't even refilled up at all during the whole duration of brunch (we spent about 1.5 hrs there). Our waiter had the first couple buttons of his shirt open and chest hair peeking through… (I'm trying to eat here). They can really work on that.

Parking & Finding the Place: They have their own little parking lot which is convenient. Located on Kinderkamack in River Edge.  .

    Additional Thoughts: n/a.

  7. This diner is very friendly. Lauretta is super nice. Ask for her. She gave us a pitcher of water.

Ordered an egg and cheese sandwich on hard roll with mayo. It was delicious. The pancakes are also super super good. Couldn't stop eating it when I took one bite.

  8. It was the day of the first set of snowstorms and I decided work just wasn't happening today so I went out in the winter wonderland that was going on and picked up my friend Christina and head to our friend Kenny's. Kenny called us on the way to his house and said meet him over at the River Edge Diner for some breakfast.. I was a little skeptical at first because I am very loyal to Suburban Diner. I went and met him at the table, the waitress came over rite away and handed us menus and offered us coffee. We placed our orders and sat there and shot the shit for about 10 mins until our food came out. I ordered two eggs over easy with well-done hash browns and a side of sausage; it also came with toast of your choice. The food was good but I still prefer the breakfast I get from suburban diner. The service was great and all but I'm just more comfortable with what I know. The decor inside this diner was a little boring, when I think diner I think of something a little more upbeat than here. All in all I would back but only for breakfast.
