Takeaway: So. Much. Food.
My boyfriend and I went here on a whim for dinner around 5 or 6 on a weekend, and I asked for us to be sat in the dining area instead of the bar since it was noisy. We were the only people back there (I think I made the wrong choice!) and it did take us a while to be noticed by the server.
Overall the food was tasty, the drinks were ok, and I'd give it a second shot.
A great place for drinks and apps, but wouldn't return for food.
The gf and I came here having passed it multiple times. It's in an odd sort of place. On Ocean, but away from things, in a residential location. It's attractive from the outside, which is what made us finally stop in.
Going inside you'll notice that the decor is excellent. It gives you a sense that you're in a modern old school tavern. This whiskey bar, old tavern, prohibition era style is what I expect they are going for and they succeed. The front of house has a good bar with some high-tops. The back is home to a long dining room. We chose to sit in the back.
For apps we went with the mac and cheese. Food–a cheese burger and buffalo chicken flat bread. The mac and cheese was good. Note: it def a table share. It's a large portion and I'd say, worth the price. The gf's flat bread was good, but not great. My burger was disappointing. Didn't feel the burger was seasoned well if at all. The fries were not seasoned well either, again, if at all. They were fried to perfection though. I hate soggy fries. These fries were well done and crispy, but not burnt.
Drinks were good and they have a nice menu with a healthy selection as well. I went with their signature Manhattan. It tasted like a Manhattan. The gf had a pumpkin martini that tasted like vodka.
Service started off shaky, but came around. The girl attending us seemed like she'd like nothing better than to go home. Took her a bit to get around to us and when she did come around to take our drink order, I had to point out that she never gave us drink menus. After that though, she was well engaged and attentive. I'd def go back.
This is a nice place that I'd love to go back to and try a few more of their signature drinks. I don't think I'd have any food beyond an appetizer or two though. Also, this is a place I'd consider to host an event.
PS: looks like this place is all residential street parking, which is plentiful. Also, bonus points for the cool menus.
Excellent all around!! I use to come to swiss tavern for their brunch and I was always sad by the fact that it was so cold and empty but I must say now with the upbeat new river mill taking its place, I will be coming here much more! Let's start with the renovation. They completely changed the atmosphere of the place by creating a more modern and rustic environment that makes you feel like you are in a fun city bar restaurant. Next, the food. Amazing! I came for my birthday dinner and of course we ordered a ton and everything was delish! The three dip appetizer was perfect to share with amazing crab dip, Buffalo chicken dip (my fav) and shrimp scampi dip served with a side of toasted bread. My friend had fish tacos and she is for sure the pickiest person I know and she couldn't stop talking about them. My Cobb salad was perfect with a unique vinaigrette blue cheese dressing that I oddly loved. The chop salad flatbread was great as well. My sister got the southwestern salad and scarfed down the huge portion all by herself. The burger was also amazing and served with fries. All portions are very generous! For my birthday dessert we got the bread pudding which was soo good! Great selection of wine as well! I loved everything about dinner. And finally, the atmosphere! We moved to the bar and had a few drinks and shots with bartender Gordo who was the best! And we met the owner Frankie who was nothing but professional and delightful and brought me a glass of wine on the house for my birthday. Honestly I usually find fault in many things but I literally had no one single complaint. Wait, one thing, parking is a bitch if they are busy but you can just park on the neighborhood streets, just may have to walk a block or so. Otherwise you will be doing yourself a disservice if you don't check this place out! Support local business especially when the owners and staff are delightful and food and drinks are amazing!
Made a good first impression. We visited RM for brunch and we were rewarded with a relatively empty dining room and attentive, friendly service. The coffee and brunch menu have many interesting choices and our food came out hot and delicious. Highlights include the homemade cornbread, and the French toast casserole. They interestingly serve one family style side of home fries, bacon and sausage links for the table. The website is pretty good, and the place is very attractive looking. Would definitely return for dinner another time.
