They don't mess around when it comes to Sausage and Peppers. Easily my favorite place to get sausage and peppers from in Queens, no one else comes close. They are always ready to go and always delicious. The pictures inside are fun, some classic NYC photos with some twists and some fun signs.
I usually do the small sausage, if you have a regular appetite, and the large is if you're feeling pretty damn hungry. If you are feeling ravenous, double it up! They are not shy on the portion or the peppers and onions; smothered is not just an adjective, it is a way of life here. Haven't tried the cheesesteak yet, but someday soon when I can give up eating my favorite sausage and peppers I will. I hear their cheesesteaks are some of the best outside of Philly, which as a former Philly inhabitant I will have to put to the test.
Yes, I laughed when I heard the name. Anywho, this place is the quintessential blue collar place, it's not fancy, there is no seating, it's standing room only but the place is awesome. If it is nice out, you could take advantage of the few picnic style tables on the side. It's basically a shack, but a manly man's shack, it's a place you would expect to see construction workers eating. The staff is super friendly and accommodating and the location is in the parking lot of the Home Depot, therefore free parking! You could ask for a sample of the hot or sweet sausage to determine which you want, if they haven't asked you already. Onion and peppers are king here, it's kinda the go to option for everything, you could get only onions if need be. Also, check ins equal free can of soda and the "small" is more than enough for a normal human portion.
The food:
Hot Italian Sausage- For me, this is my go to sandwich. The hot has a tiny bit of heat which works well with the sausage, the sausage also has a little bit of a snap which is nice. The bread is nice and crusty and the onion and peppers are a must. Adding mustard is a welcome addition.
Sweet Italian Sausage- I like these as well but plays second fiddle to the spicy. The sweet is basically the same sausage without the kick. It's still a good sausage but I prefer the hot, I feel the sweet is missing some umph
Cheesesteak- I think the cheesesteak is good. The flavor of the meat is pretty standard, it doesn't really blow you away with flavor but it's still a good sandwich. The steak can be topped with Mozz, Provolone, American, and I think I remember cheddar. The onion and peppers are good with the steak but I do prefer the sausage over the steaks.
Chicken cheesesteak- The chicken is just kinda chicken. The slices are on the dry side because it's chicken breast and chicken breast is really hard to make juicy. The chicken is a healthier, lighter alternative to the the above options.
Best kept secret in queens. Delicious sausage and peppers in a Home Depot parking lot! It's a must it you are passing by.
Solid 2.5 stars. I gave an extra 1/2 star for the free can soda you get with checking in.
I hate to be the exception, but the Philly cheesesteak here is only okay in my book. I was expecting an explosion of flavors in my mouth based on the reviews here, however I did not get that and actually found it to be very bland. It costs $8 for a small Philly cheesesteak, which is probably about 8 inches or so. Not bad. I did not like how the prices were not listed on the menu though.
I will not return for the cheesesteak however I may have to come back to try the sausage next time because I saw a lot of people ordering it and it smelled really good!
The only way you'll actually discover this place is:
A) You needed to stop by Home Depot.
B) Yelp
Just a really weird location for an Italian sausage & cheese steak place to be budding off the hardware store, but it whatever works for them. The name speaks for itself, specializing in those 2 things. The price is above average what you'd normally pay for them, but in the end your stomach is getting loaded with a large hoagie of meats, onions and peppers.
Oddly, prices weren't listed on the menu when I visited, but my "small" Italian sausage hero came with 2 huge links by default and costed about $10. THE BEST Italian sausage sandwich I've eaten up to date and it's way better than the cheese steak IMO.
CASH ONLY! Ew.
This place is awesome! The place is clean. The food is good. And most importantly the staff is super nice and friendly. They really know what they're doing here. Highly recommend!
So what i like most about this place is that they have sizes for cheesesteaks. You can go and order something to fill you whether you want a snack or a full on meal.
The steaks itself without anything else are super tasty. Im ot sure what exactly they put on the steak but its wonderful. On top of the the onions and peppers put on make the sandwich that much better. Definitely a good sandwich
Love this place.
A small spot right next to (or kind of part of) home depot.
They philly cheese steaks are huge! Overflowing with steak. You can ask to make it spicy, it's amazing.
Although a bit pricy, i think it's worth it for a solid cheese steak!
