This is a bodega on steroids. Rather than filling their space with lots of crap you can get anywhere, Roma focuses on Latin American fare and does a great job.
The entire length of the store is set up for preparing food. In addition to a full deli (with great Latin-inspired sandwich combos), they have all kinds of hot prepared foods – roast chicken, pork, plantains, chicken cutlets, etc. If you aren't adventurous enough for ethnic food, they make one of the best bacon, egg and cheese rolls I've had in Astoria.
Beware the semi-long lines when the Rikers officers and contractor folk that inhabit Astoria Heights are grabbing breakfast or lunch..but Roma is definitely worth a stop for a good meal on the go.
