On the hunt for the best casual slice of pizza in Brooklyn and Brooklyn Magazine sent me to Roma. It definitely has a casual Italian vibe, booths, Italian men in black and white photos on the wall, and friendly yet efficient service. I ordered two cheese slices and opened a Nantucket Nectar for $7.25.
The pizza is good. Greasy, cheesy, large slices–it's everything you could want from a cheap casual joint. My only problem is it wasn't INCREDIBLE. It was solid but not out-of-this-world. I will definitely be back for a couple slices when I'm in the area but I'm still on the hunt for the best.
Stopped by for a late afternoon snack. The place is very clean and the slices were good.
Very good pizza and very friendly staff. I am not from Brooklyn so I was expecting to be blown away by this recommend place but we where not. Sauce is on the sweet side. Still very good and no wait.
Roma, you are certainly popular in the early afternoon hours as kids are getting off from school, but you have some work to do on your pizza. Came here last week for a slice of pepperoni, and was heartened to see the hipsters who seem to have a love for their job. It was endearing to see the guy sing to Michael Jackson, which was playing on the overhead speakers, as he so lovingly and carefully dolloped sauce onto an uncooked pie.
The pizza itself, however, was overall underwhelming. In fact, the only thing that came out on top was the sauce. It was brilliantly sweet and a little chunky. The whole pizza was kind of chunky in a good way, but everything else about the slice was bland city. The crust was fine, but not very foldable, the cheese and pepperoni were flavorless. There was no saltiness, no creaminess, no zip to anything save the sauce. SAUCE LOVERS COME HERE.
This is the pizza joint that everyone would be lucky to have in their neighborhood, and it's probably not too different from the one you have in yours (which is why most of us are pretty lucky to be living in Brooklyn). None of the $16-for-a-gourmet-pie-you-can-only-order-whole-that-will-only-serve-one-person nonsense.* This is a local place built on slices sold, and pies delivered.
It's not particularly mind-blowing, but this is New York pizza, and it's definitely good. They've got a quick slice if you want it, and they'll deliver their stellar fresh mozzarella pie pretty much anywhere in the Slope for when you need to keep a party going. The meat-lovers' pie (or whatever they call it) has more sausage and pepperoni than anyone really needs but I always want, and the grandma isn't bad either.
Cash only.

*Nonsense that has its time and place.
I used to come here all the time because I used to live right down the block. I stopped coming because I moved and my job is further up 7th ave. this pizzeria is still one of the decent ones left on 7th that don't cost an arm and a leg. It's small so when the kids get out from school it's overcrowded, but I managed to grab a table. It's one of the last old school Brooklyn pizzerias left in the neighborhood. It's sad to see it changing but this place is a reminder of what the neighborhood used to be.
Roma is a solid pizza place in Park Slope, always there for me when I need a quick slice before a Co-Op shift or between activities. I stopped by for a mushroom and fresh mozzarella slice this weekend, and it was crisp and flavorful. I find the sauce a little bit sweet for me, but no big deal.
I keep coming back for the CHEESE SLICE. $2.50. it's the best most yummy and cheesiest slice in town. This is straight up New York pizza. None of that artisanal bullshit with truffle oil etc. AND THAT IS WHY I LOVE IT. I get two slices and a coke IN A CUP WITH ICE. That's it. I get excited whenever I walk by.
Good people watching through the windows yo.
