Small spinning eddies of wind danced curbside, outside this special Glendale address as winds above blew with gusts comparable to the gales of November slashing upon the sportsmen of the great lakes. But enough of wit witticism weather and geographical references, let's get to the goods.
Shuffling inside, we were quickly and politely seated by our server Danielle who took the best of care of us, start to finish. Sadly, previous reviewers grunt and grumble, hem and haw of long wait times to be seated. Please show a shred of persistence in your patience, as Room 55's seating capacity is not that of the Parthenon, and with no local spill over location. We wait at DMV & Disney — but food is a personal thing with lots going on behind the scenes at Room 55. I promise — you'll be dining on dishes that will quickly eradicate any unpleasant waiting memories if you muster the gumption to stand pat.
Two Curry Dusted Scallops, I'm guessing the smaller and more tender mollusks from the bay as opposed to their sea fairing cousins, sat amongst pickled relish strips — striped w an apple reduction, perhaps a Jonagold? Taste buds detection alert — perhaps a dash of brown sugar or honey
A spectacular starting Small Plate.
Spiced Pork was another great Small Plate starter, mouth watering, forkable tender cubes with a perfect fat to pork ratio. The skin was crispy and crackled upon each and every bite, fat rendering into the pork, creating an obscenely tender morsel.
Although a month after the holiday's I hunkered for an elegant dish that I simply adore and could not take my eyes off of the option of Deconstructed Wellington, chef Accardi's spin on the English classic Beef Wellington, a dish worth seeking out then bragging about. Prepared not in loaf form, the individual prime dry aged filet minion steak hunks, combined with a rich buttery puff pastry was pure culinary brilliance. The King of the Oyster mushrooms, sauteed golden brown brought a flavor profile fit for royalty.
The first time I went to this place was over a year ago and I wasn't too happy with it. But this time it was outstanding from the food and service and so on. The menu changes with each season and from what I've seen there never seems to be something on any one of the menus I wouldn't order. Everything sounds shop good which made it quite hard for me to decide. Luckily that have a tastings menu so my wife and I were able to order a bunch of small plates and we were able to try a bunch of different food before we ordered our main dishes. She had a scallops in a celery cold soup which was incredible and I had the Deconstructed Wellington which had 4 pieces of perfectly cooked filet mignon with puff pastry on top with apple wood bacon and mushroom dexulle. One of the best dishes I've ever eaten. We got 3 desserts for $10 which was the best thing to do after a great meal like we just had. I can't wait to go again real soon.
This is the kind of place you really root for. Small, out of the way, interesting menu… but ultimately it missed nearly every mark.
Anniversary dinner so let's be a little frivilous. 3 appetizers and 2 entrees. That should give us a good sense of what they have to offer: bone marrow, mussels and deconstructed wellington (which is really just an excuse for not assembling a proper time consuming beef wellington), for main courses the hanger steak and the duck. Pretty wide rage of selections, I think, especially for a such a short menu.
Of all 5 selections NOT A SINGLE DISH WAS SERVED HOT; AT BEST THEY WERE A FEW SINGLE DIGIT DEGREES ABOVE ROOM TEMPERATURE. Important note number 2: WE WERE THE ONLY, LITERALLY, THE ONLY CUSTOMERS IN THE RESTAURANT. Maybe half an hour after we arrived 2 more tables were sat. So there is no excuse to serve cool food. There was no "rush" to blame it on. The checks are the same you'd get a cheap diner and calculated in the server's head. Very cheap and cheesy (even to you hipsters this will not seem hip or retro; just cheesy) This all basically leads to a 1 star review.
However, I see potential here. The service, though obviously inexperience, was very nice, cordial and attentive. The space could use a few finishing touches but it does have personality and it's pretty cozy. They played disjointed but good music. And the menu tells me that a lot of thought went into tha short menu. By the way a menu need not be extensive to be solid.
I'll give them another chance one day and I hope I can adjust this review to 4 or 5 stars. In the meantime this is just a diamond very very deep in the rough. Good luck guys.

Another Queens boy makes good with an enticing menu. On a Wednesday night we basically had the place to ourselves. Our server, Danielle, was delightful. She owns the dining room and is warm and helpful and the right amount of attentive.
We started off with the Clams Casino special and the Roasted Bone Marrow. The clams were served in a broth with bacon, peppers, shallots. It was very good…on the verge of being too salty, but great flavor. The bone marrow was a huge bone, but pretty skimpy on the actual marrow. Served with some toasted bread, pickled onions and honey beef….honey beef! It was delicious; piling each item on the bread and taking a bite, it was like an explosion in your mouth. Just great, I wish there had been more of it.
For entrees we decided on the steak and pork. The Hanger Steak was cooked well with a perfect char served with roasted, crispy and creamy potatoes, mushrooms and a Cabernet sauce. A wonderful dish. The Pork Tenderloin was stuffed with greens and mushrooms served with pickled red cabbage and scallion grits; it was absolutely scrumptious. The pork was so flavorful and juicy, the cabbage gave the perfect amount of acidity and the grits, the grits were amazing.
On to dessert. The dessert menu offers about 7 items, but they are served as a trio so you get to choose 3, I loved this concept. We opted for the coconut creme brulee, smores and the bread pudding. Each dessert was delightful and a perfect end to the meal.
Room 55 is serving up fantastic food in a low key and homey atmosphere and it's a place you should try.
Excellent service. Feels like you are living out of NYC, away from all the craziness.
I came here with my boyfriend on a Sunday for the five course brunch. I had a lamb entree, and my boyfriend had the pork. The meal was full of flavor. If you are looking for comfort food meets brunch (not talkin' chicken and waffles) come here!
Wine selection is divine. I did not have wine – I tried a sake Bloody Mary. It was very different. I enjoyed it, and would offer again. Coffee is nice and strong.
Will definitely come back!
OK so Room 55 is definitely a hidden gem and serving small Tapa styled plates that are super fresh, tasty and delicious! I feel like I'm eating fancy High quality Good stuff here with out the Fancy over the top pricing ! Both my friend and I got lucky this evening and had the whole restaurant to ourselves and got the chance to chat it up with Danielle who was well informed on the menu & recommendations and an exceptionally gracious and wonderful Hostess!
What we dined on & final thoughts see below…
* Deconstructed Beef Wellington small plate – Tender as hell, delicious and perfect for two if your not greedy and are sharing additional small plates! Get this for sure!
* Seared Ahi Tuna with a delicious Asian tasting salad ( small plate ) Cut with the perfect thickness – fresh tasting and seared perfectly – same as above if your dong small plates you can share for two
* Bone Marrow – Yes this is hands downs a delicious dish and I do not recommend sharing at all – hell this was so delicious and I will always order this and never share this although you get two large sizes you have to scoop that bone marrow out and put it on the bread with the relishes its served with and its not right to have to share this dish with anyone but yourself!
* Scallion Grits – Creamy, perfect salt n pepper to taste and nice touch of scallions is a lovely dish to add on to your Small plates and I highly recommend this with the Bone Marrow
* Pork Belly – Crispy skin, Juicy tender pork belly with a delicate honey / Orange glaze that is awesome but a very small plate and again don't consider sharing this just enjoy the bites & crunch
* Rolled Beef & Asparagus – we didn't care for this small plate at all! It just didn't appeal to our palate and not a wow factor here
* Sangria we had both the Red & White
Red Sangria was stronger in the sense of Alcohol levels and delicious
White Sangria was a light & refreshing with Peach & White Grape undertones and a little weaker on alcohol but still tasted delicious
* Desserts – 10$ Trio of Bread Pudding, Smores & Coconut Creme Brulee – Perfect
I'm not a bread pudding fan but this one tasted pretty dam good and wasn't dry but out of the three my favorite would be the Smores this just perfect crunch, chocolate & fluff!
I would make reservations on my next visit as the dining space is comfy and small and could get filled up quickly from what we were told but it was nice we were fortunate to walk in at a time when it wasn't crowded at all!
Enjoy…
We were convinced to come here just for the beef wellington. Sadly, beef wellington is hard to find in NYC. We came with a big group of 12 for dinner and we basically took over the whole place. Restaurant is quite small and run by one waitress, but don't fret, there are about 5 people in the kitchen. We had the beef wellington, of course, which was "deconstructed." This means the filets were on top of the fillings as for individual pieces, which accounted for the high price. The filets were perfectly cooked to order, the flavor was rich without being overpowering. This dish is definitely worth ordering but prepare to open the wallet really wide for it.
Down the line, we had everything else available for the day: bone marrow, skirt steak, seafood pasta, mussles, tenderloin, pork belly, and duck. Fortunately, and amazingly, there were no complaints. All the food came out amazing, hot, and correctly cooked. It's great to see the staff didn't get overwhelmed with the large party and miss their quality.
The quality of food here is easily comparable with West Village or Union Square area restaurants, and the staff knows it, that's why the prices are also comparable. Is it worth the trek off the beaten path for this restaurant? Most definitely!
Room 55 is a hidden gem, it's literally hidden and surrounded by warehouses in the Glendale area. I went with my boyfriend on a Wednesday evening and it was empty, I'm guessing during the weekends it must be packed.
Room 55 is small and cozy place, they offer mostly small plates and some entrees. Beer and wine bar only.
We saw the episode of Room 55 on Restaurant Start Up in the beginning of the year and we wanted to come ever since the episode aired especially since it's in Glendale.
We got the pork belly for starters and it was the right amount for 2 people, the chopped apple on the plate went very well with the pork.
For entree I got the pork with buttery grits, the meat just fell of the bone and it was really good. It was the first time I tried grits and I was surprised on how good it was.
The menus are seasonal so don't expect to come back and to try the same thing again. Right now they are still serving the Fall/Winter Menu.
I will be sure to come back in the Summer, this hidden gem is not just good to come to just once.
