What a disappointment!
As you can see my yelp profile has a picture of me, I have hundreds of fellow yelper friends and have reviewed hundreds of places. Mostly 3 and 4 stars! So I think my comments bring legitimacy over all the poser reviews where there are no picture profiles with zero friends and low review counts. That said, all the bad reviews are unfortunately spot on. My hope is the owner takes the feedback constructively for the benefit of future patrons, for certainly I will never return.
Came here for a weekday lunch and the service was SL-oooow, with three of the tables occupied. We waited 30 minutes to get an order of tacos and enchiladas, unacceptable.
The food was crazy expensive given the plates were baron, missing rice and beans. How much should rice and beans cost to add to a plate? A Nickel?
My chicken tacos: Mostly flavorless.
Would have been totally flavorless if it was not for the pickled red onions, crema and desiccated greenery on top. If you are going to make a fresh taco why wouldn't you chop up fresh herbs fresh? The mise en place clearly were chopped up some time earlier that day and dried out. I have to say visually the tacos were loaded with chicken, but I kid you not, the chicken had no grill marks or flavor. No way the chicken was cooked on a grill, no grill marks; it had to have been steamed, boiled or suevied. Almost a cat food consistency. Bleh. It was one of those experiences that ruins you taste for Mexican, forever. Or at least for a very long time.
I wouldn't say the food was inedible, but it wasn't very good and certainly not a value or premium experience given how expensive.
Summit did not have a sit down Mexican restaurant, so I was excited to learn that this place was opening. I should have waited for other people to review it before going – I was very disappointed in this place.
The Decor: You know that industrial hipster decor with dark wood, tin, and exposed lightbulbs that is everywhere now- even Wendy's and Chipotle? Well that's what this place looks like. I knew, upon seeing that – this place has made some questionable decisions- It's a Mexican Restaurant! There was no personality at all aside from some fresh flowers at the hostess desk. No art work. No Mexican decor- nothing that would give you any indication of what type of place it was except the name. It definitely did not look like a place whose name was Rosalita's!!!!!
Waiting: We waited a while to be seated and we waited for menus and we waited FOREVER for our food. It took 45 minutes from walking in to getting our food. This is unacceptable.
Menus: Severely limited with a lot of gaps. They only had a few things and among those only a few sounded good. The menus had chips and salsa for $4! When I read that, I wanted to leave but my husband wanted to try the place so we stayed. Guacamole $10! (not table side, in a tiny bowl!) We did not have any- it looked good but it was ridiculously priced! This was a casual Sturday lunch and if we had ordered Guacamole our order would have been close to $40 without any beverages!
Finally the waiter brought chips and salsa (2 kinds a tomato-watery red spicy kind and a green sweet kind pineapple? they were both pretty good and the chips were fresh and good also) and said they were on the house. Seeing them on the menu for $4 pissed me off before I even started eating and then they bring them? That makes no sense.
We ordered: My husband got 3 chicken tacos ($14) and I ordered enchiladas ($13). Then we waited over 30 minutes for our food to come. I was so annoyed. I wished we would have paid attention to the red flags before we ordered-the limited menu and ridiculous decor.
The food came: There were Enchiladas-2? they were in the middle of the plate covered in brown sauce (mole?) and crema squiggled on top of that. There was a lot of space around them- there was nothing else on the plate except a piece of tomato in the corner with a micro sprig of thyme. No beans. No rice. Just the Enchiladas and they were a relatively small portion at that. Not to mention they were cold, and after having 2 bites I notice a small piece of black hair in the corner of the plate that did not have the garnish. I should have taken a picture of it but I just picked it off the plate. It had taken forever to get this food and I did not want to spend my whole afternoon dealing with these people about a hair on my plate.
My husband's 3 tacos were packed with chicken and barely tasted good because of the pickled onion and crema. The chicken was bland and looked boiled or something. It was not grilled- just white and chunky- there was a lot of chicken but it was flavorless and just a filler for the taco-it bought absoultely nothing to the taste.
Summit does not have that many restaurants and a nice Mexican place would have made an awesome addition to downtown, but this place is not going to make it six months. It's hideously expensive, not that good and the portions are miniscule. There was absolutely nothing I could think of that can redeem this place.
If you look at my previous reviews I don't complain about portion size or places being pricey – but this place had the double whammy that just burned me up! Add the hair on the plate and I am just disgusted. I am warning everyone I know against this place.
FYI- one of the 4 star reviewers below sent me a harassing message saying that I am a "hater" and I am trying to ruin the business of a hardworking family. Do not trust the 5 star reviews here. They are obviously written by people who are connected to the restaurant.
When I first looked at the yelp reviews on this page, I was dubious about coming to Rosalita for dinner. But it seems they have made some improvements, and overall I would give this place 3.5 stars.
Food: 3/5. I ordered the al pastor tacos – they were delicious (but maybe not worth the $15 price tag). The tacos were served on corn tortillas, which I love, but they didn't double up on the tortillas, so they broke after just one bite. While the appetizers are also tasty, most of them are intended to accompany tortilla chips, so you only need to order 1 or 2 at most. The prices are high across the menu, but the group I came with enjoyed their food, so at least you can walk away full.
Ambiance: 4/5. The restaurant is surprisingly roomy and well-lit, both by the floor-to-ceiling windows and the strings of lights. Overall, the place was cute, but I would highly recommend that management invest in window shades. When we came for dinner, the sun was shining directly onto some of our party, which made things uncomfortable after awhile.
