By far one of the greatest tea rooms i've been to. The interior decor is soo beautiful.
The service was great, our waitress was really nice, friendly and quick. I ordered the rose petal milk tea which was delicious as well as the house green tea, also great.
Fancy Fancy I strolled in and was ready to pinky up and speak with in British accent. The decor and ambiance is brilliant. Our server seemed very rude. I came with a person who frequents the establishment and she did the ordering. So I doubt it was our fault. Things were being placed not so gently on our table with much attitude, if I must say. But I am still willing to return.
There was 5 of us. They did require us to order a certain amount. Two tea sets was not enough. A tea set comes with a tower of assorted sweets. All of which are so savory.
The food and drinks were excellent. The fruit tea was great. I am not a fan of rose flavored Things, however my friends enjoyed the tea.
Great place to come catchup with a pal. They do not rush you so that is a plus. You can chat with your pals for hours.
Being one of the first tea rooms in Flushing, I wanted to like Rose House, but sadly, the experience was simply meh. We ordered the set Valentines Day menu with a tower of desserts, 2 plates of cooked food, and a pot of tea. The desserts were good, but unfortunately, the rest weren't that I do not even remember what the rest of the items were.
Wow if you thought Prince Tea House looked nice, you will surely be blasted in the face by awesomeness when you open the door and enter Rose House! Situated in the middle of Queens Crossing Mall is this sanctuary that offers a very relaxing environment away from the hustle and bustle of Flushing. My party of 7 arrived at around 8pm and there just so happened to be a table with 7 sofa seats waiting for us #psychic. As I have already stressed, the ambience here is amazing. It feels like as if you've been teleported to a castle in England, with fancy chandeliers, paintings, china, and flowers adorning the entire place. It really is a sight to behold! Service, I would say, was pretty good. They were very attentive in terms of taking our order and refilling our teas and they did a good job explaining the menu. Most importantly, they never rushed us to leave. We ate/chatted for 2 hours and they never shoved the bill at us, which I really appreciate!
We ordered the tier set for 2, a couple of different teas, and a few desserts. Even though the tier set is kind of pricy, it is a must for the sake of your Instagram lol. It looked so nice! The food in the tiers was pretty meh though. I would say the stand outs had to be the creme brulee (YUM!), a yellow cookie on the second tier, and the heart shaped cookie. The yellow cake on the top tier had a unique citrus taste to it. The cream puff was kind of bland and the muffin was really dry. The hot dog pastry was alright but I disliked the cha siu pastry. The finger sandwiches were not good 🙁
The teas that we got were all pretty good! I'm not a tea expert but I had a great time getting to taste the different flavors of teas that you definitely won't find at chains like KFT or Quickly's. We started off with a strong tea that helps you digest better (sorry I forgot the name!!) and it had a nice acidity to it. Then we tried a fruit tea that was much sweeter but not too sweet and that really captured the essence of the fruity flavor. The rose water had a subtle rose flavor to it that I really enjoyed. The milk tea had a richer/earthier flavor to it than the milk tea you find at bubble tea chains. Oh also, if you get hot teas, they give you a little stand with a candle inside to keep the tea in the teapot warm. COOL! Overall, I really enjoyed all the teas that we got!
In terms of desserts, we got the Rose cake, tiramisu, and creme brulee. The rose cake looked nice but the taste was pretty average. It sort of tastes like the fruit cakes that you get at Chinese bakeries except it was more sour because of the citrusy sauce that they drizzle on it. The tiramisu was pretty good but I was really impressed by the creme brulee! So delicious and had the perfect crisp on top!
If I were to rate Rose House solely on food and price, it would've definitely received only 2 or 3 stars. With some exceptions, most of the pastries/desserts were average/less than average. It's also ridiculous how everyone has to order at least one thing, which jacks up the check as well. However, I had a really great time here spending quality time with close friends! I honestly don't think you'll find another place like this in NYC. The decor/ambience is absolutely amazing and the experience is second to none! It will definitely be something that I will remember for the rest of my life 🙂 Definitely consider Rose House as an option for a place to celebrate a special occasion or to catch up with friends!
Super cute place with comfy couches. The rose petal milk tea was delicious and a must try, and the rose latte was good. The passion fruit cake was my favorite cake, while the vanilla crepe cake and rode cake were good too.
I listened to the warning from other yelpers and stayed away from the food. I had such a pleasant experience! This is a review for afternoon tea only.
The decor and atmosphere is simply amazing. You won't find anything like it in Flushing, yet alone Queens.
It is a bit $$, with tea at $10 each but I do think you pay for the atmosphere. I got the oolong rose tea and my friend got the rose water. We both really enjoyed our drinks and our time at Rose House.
This is definitely a great place to catch up with friends or for a date. I may even be adventurous and try one of their desserts next time….
Service was slow and could have been better, but overall I had a great time. Can't wait to be back to try their other types of tea!
This past weekend was the 3rd or 4th time I've been to Rose House. The last time I visited was over three years ago now, and I'm sorry to say that it's gone a bit downhill since then.
I planned a 12 person get together with my friends, and made reservations back in December. Fast forward to February, a few days before our outing, and I call and they tell me that there was no reservation! Suffice to say I was both shocked and annoyed considering how far in advanced I called. Luckily, the hostess was able to make a new reservation for us, so crisis averted… though that said, I had to explain multiple times that the date was for Saturday Feb. 6th and not the 13th (she kept saying "Okay so Feb 13th, right?"). Finally it got sorted out and the reservation was made. Then I get a call that Friday night (the night before the event) from I assume a manager to confirm the reservation, which I appreciated, however the gentleman calling sounded rather aggressive, and after I confirmed that we were coming he said "You're absolutely sure you're coming, right?" in a forceful tone. It seemed odd and unnecessary to say the least.
We show up the day of, and there were no problems. However, much as other recent reviewers have mentioned – the prices have gotten ABSURD. Additionally they greatly cut the menu so there are very few options now. After tax and tip, I shelled out $26 plus change for a pot of rose milk tea and creme brulee! That's insane. The tea was delicious as always, and the creme brulee was fine, average creme brulee… but dude, $26 in total for both??? And this was one of the cheaper options on the menu! I really have no idea what management is thinking by cutting the menu and jacking up the prices.
One good thing I will say is that the waitstaff was very quick, and our waitress offered to split our check among all 12 of us to make things easier on us. I was surprised and grateful for the gesture. So I am going to give a shout out to the good service here.
But unfortunately good service doesn't make up for the menu issues. As much as I used to adore this place in the past, I just can't see myself coming back here again. It's such a beautiful and romantic little tea spot, but it's not worth the prices. I think I would rather just hit hot pot when I'm in the area instead.
Rose house is one of those places that I really wanted to love, but just can't. The idea is great, but the execution not so much.
My most recent visit was to bring Mama Chef and the Bf for the first time. I really wanted them to have a great experience because the decor is adorable and the idea of afternoon tea is so fun. It's nice and cozy, and conveniently located. The window and front display is great, filed with all kinds of tea pots, teacups, and teas. The moment you walk in, you're transported to a different world where everything is made of rose. The decor is warm and inviting, very romantic. You're punched in the face by a strong smell of rose everywhere. The noise level is just a few levels under normal, which is very pleasant.
We ordered a lot of the rose tea with milk, a tuna sandwich, a waffle with tuna, and a side of scones.
The scones came first and smelled amazing. It was served piping hot with a side of some kind of rose jam concoction and some cool whip. As you can see from the photos, these looked great. However, upon my first bite, I realized the scone was burnt to a crisp on the inside and extremely dry. When I saw burnt to a crisp, I mean it was brown inside. I was so disappointed, and neither Mama Chef or the Bf enjoyed this. The rose jam concoction was alright- not too sweet and very floral. I actually almost liked it, no I was the only one at the table. How could the scones smell so misleading?
The tuna sandwich came next, and again, looked good. Their presentation is on point. But alas, the bread tasted stale, and really ruined an otherwise great sandwich. You can't make a great sandwich and then skimp on the bread! You just can't..
The tea finally came out- they sprinkled crushed rose petals inside of empty teacups, and they poured our tea for us. The tea was subtle and lovely at first, however after half a cup, I started tasting a grainy, dry texture. It was very unpleasant and I couldn't have any more tea. The grainy taste stuck with me the entire rest of the meal and no amount of water could wash it away.
The saving point of this entire visit was the waffle with tuna. Seriously. After all the fail I experienced, I'd come back just to order the waffle- Mama Chef and the Bf both agree. The waffle was crisp and fluffy, and the lettuce bed was statically placed to prevent the tuna from getting the waffle soggy. The waffle was such a hit that we decided that we'd come back again just order walked, and maybe try a desert waffle next time.
I have to mention that the servers are nice but at one point I knocked over my glass of water due to the overcrowding of our table (4-person booth with three plates of food and a tea pot, but it barely fit). It was very loud when the glass knocked over, and water got everywhere, the table, the food, the chairs, and out belonging. But the staff didn't even notice, and if they did they never flinched. I was very annoyed that no one brought over any paper or offered a new glass of water until much later when we asked for the check.
Overall the prices are much too high for what you get as far as service and experience, but those waffles tho…
