  1. I can't bow for the lunch/dinner cooking since there's not many vegetarian options other than some sides. But the breakfasts are great and inexpensive. You HAVE to try the oatmeal… Caribbean recipe (limey).

Their cakes are some of THE BEST in the whole city. Especially for the Dominican style. Just get a biscocho… you'll be back for mo'

  2. Came in around 1pm for lunch and saw that they had the usual fare of food, i.e. rice, beans, and 4-5 different meats for you to pick from.  The combination just described costs $7, and like I mentioned in an earlier review I wrote for them, their portions are quite generous.  The difference this time, is that I came at lunch time when I would hope their food is still relatively fresh.  Might be placebo, but I found their food to be a tad bit better so I bumped up my 3.5 star rating to 4 stars instead.  However on a negative note their food was quite saltier than I remember it to be.  Either way, for the cost it's a good deal so I'll be coming by every so often to sustain myself.

  3. I have yet to try their pastries, but their Spanish food is a good reason to come back. They have some pre-cooked homestyle food behind the glass case. I've had their pernil, short ribs, and baked chicken. Any of those options, coupled with, rice and beans, maduros, and a tangy little salad, make for a very filling, satisfying meal.

  4. The food itself is really kind of a 1.5, but the fact that things are so cheap and it's such a precious family-run business makes me a little more lenient. The bakery had tons of guava-filled stuff, and I thought that would be the way to go since clearly it was some kind of signature ingredient. I had a guava pastelito, and it was pretty nasty. The guava filling, which looked like ooey gooey strawberry-red glaze through the glass cabinet, had a more fruit leather texture. which was kind of gross. The taste of the guava didn't really sit well with me, but I am attributing it to my lack of familiarity with its taste. My boyfriend's dulce de leche cake was unspectacular. The yellow cake was moist, but the dulce de leche was just alright and the whipped cream was whipped cream. But at $1.50 for the guava pastelito and $3.50 for the cake, it's not a bad deal at all.

  5. Very good Spanish food! I love supporting mom-and-pop businesses! I work in the area and was turned onto this place by a coworker so far I have tried the grill chicken with Spanish rice and beans it was delicious then the steak which was just as delicious all the meals are  between 5-6 dollars for the small which includes a small side salad w simple but delicious vinaigrett, its more than enough to get you through the day ,this is truly a diamond in the rough and I am becoming a regular customer because their homemade food at great prices!

  6. Incredible, hearty Spanish food. There's something so magical about rice, beans, and meat that just makes my heart sing. Real food for a very good price. The rice, bean, and meat dishes range from ($5-7) and they give you a TON of food. It's also amazing quality as well.

This place seems like somewhere the locals frequent and I can see why. There's a very family oriented atmosphere and for the price, you can't beat what you get! The meat is tender and the beans seem as if they've stewed for hours. I also prefer the rice with pigeon peas to the white rice, though both are good. The combination of the three are incredible whichever way you swing it.

In regards to the empanadas…THAT IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! My empanadas quest is over. They're light and flaky with meaty goodness trapped inside. Each empanadas is $1.25 and $1.50 if you want the meat and cheese option.

    Overall, incredible food. Highly recommend!!
