What Forest Hillsian was not excited when they heard Jack and Nellis owners were opening a new restaurant?
Rove is more of a casual dining space where Bonfire Grill used to be. The space is a bit small but the layout is nicely divided between bar and dining area. It may be silly, but I love the lighting! It's sets a nice mood.
I would recommend the ham sandwich or the classic burger. The French fries were delicious the first time and OK the second (I remember the first time the fries being thin and crispy which I love) and shrimp supreme. The pork buns were a disappointment because they didn't have the flavor everything else had.
I will be revisiting often and I hope many more do too!
Small establishment with nice decor and dim lighting. There's a bar and a seperate area for dining. We came on a friday night and they had happy hour special on certain types of beer and a red or white wine until 8pm. For appetizers we had the filet minion brucetta which was quite tasty. The buffallo siracha chicken thighs were ok. Majority of us ordered the classic burger, which was eh.. nothing spectacular. Now about the entrees. They were extremely small portioned. The pork tenderloin was quite disappointing to my friend. For entree price you would expect a huge portion consider you are paying $20 for it. Instead my friend was presented with 5 small pieces of pork and was still hungry afterwards. The steak looked like a decent size. Overall, this place needs a lot of work on their food and portions. And we waited quite a long time for the food. The staff were very nice and attentive though. They were nice enough to give us 2 free drinks on the house.
First time having brunch in Forest Hills and I realize how much I love this area. We came right as they opened and thought we'd be the only ones there, but this place got packed, quick!
The brunch menu is small, but has enough to cover every possible craving. From chicken and waffles to steak and eggs, they had everything in between. I had the steak and eggs and was pretty satisfied with my dish. It's pretty basic, you can't really go wrong with it. Came with a side of fries that were thin cut and crunchy, just how i love them. We enjoyed white wine sangria that was nice and fruity, but definitely could have been stronger.
Service was great, our food came out quick and we weren't rushed out, even though we hung around a little longer after we finished eating. Would definitely come back here again.
I automatically have respect for any bar/restaurant that has an impressive beer selection. Rove is a bit on the smaller side with a bar with plenty of seating but only a few tables. The menu at the bar area is different than that at the table but if you're nice, they might let you swap. Also tabs do not carry over from bar to table so keep that in mind when you're seated.
The wait on a Thursday was not long, which was surprising considering we had 8 people attending. I went with a Montauk as my choice of beer. I heard the house red was surprisingly good. The beers are written on a chalkboard so they can be switched out but they also have the usuals for $3 during happy hour (EVERY DAY FROM 3-8! WHAAAT!). We started with the bruschetta which had gorgonzola in it…It was delicious! It packed so many flavors into one bite. The dumplings are actually mini empanadas. Still tasty but on the small side.
I had the crispy chicken as my entree. It was served with mashed potatoes with carrots mashed in (very good) and asparagus (which I was happy about since the menu lists zucchini and I love asparagus but HATE zucchini). The chicken was very good and the batter they use is light. Someone else in our group had the pasta special which was penne a la vodka, they said that was great along with the soup of the day (tomato). The salmon salad looked fresh and delicious. The cheeseburger appeared to be great and perfectly cooked.
Clean bathrooms, friendly waitstaff and bartender, prices are not totally crazy. I'll come back.
New place to try out on Austin Street if and when in Forest Hills!
We came here for brunch and I was in love with the simplicity yet comfortable and welcoming feeling of this place.
We had a few mimosas, bloody Mary's, white wine, egg white, as well as chicken with waffles…
The serving portion was filling and tasted quite well.
Our bartender Diego and staff were amazing. They were such friendly folks and provided remarkable services.

I would definitely recommend for a date if you are looking for somewhere hip, but quiet and intimate.
Definitely family friendly where you can occupy the table section.
I really enjoy the food and environment as well as meaningful discussion with my friend.
I came here to wait for a date for a restaurant across the street and saw the happy hour sign so I was sold. They actually have a good selection Of beers and we'll on happy hour – house wine $6, well drinks $6, warflag pilsner, firestone pilsner, Sierra Nevada pilsner, victory summer love ale, heiny, corona, and amstel $5. It's a bar restaurant as well but I didn't eat any of the good so I can't fairly review that. It's pretty humid when the doors are open, but it's a decent dive bar for the area. A LITTLE more expensive than most dive bars but still good.
