Royal Bangladesh Indian Restaurant

“Visited here on my mission to try every BYOB in the city after Cherin Sushi down the street was outrageously packed on a Saturday night.”

“I used to be loyal to Panna II because Royal Bang always looked like its and Milon's boring friend.”

“It's a Christmas fiesta equipped with metallic red and green decorations, as well as chili pepper lights, hanging from the ceiling (yes, this is an Indian restaurant).”

  1. As good as any of the other Indian restaurants in the area.  Nothing to write home about.

  2. A great place to come with friends.  I love to come to Royal Bangladeshi or its similar sister Milon upstairs, particularly for the hearty portions, doughy delicious Naan, spicy Vindaloo, perfectly paired Raita, and…

    BYOB Policy (boom).

Also, whats not to love about the ambiance.  Nothing fancy, but certainly a good and fun place for a date.  Even though various decorations and lighting coming from the ceiling feels a bit claustrophobic, it's still a bit wondrous.  How do they defy fire code?

Great place for a small group (or large group) of diverse friends from varying income levels to enjoy some good, ethnic cuisine with nice, attentive waitstaff while drinking a beer from the store on a few doors down.

  3. Compared to the other reviews, I must've hit this place on the right day and at the right time!

The festive atmosphere, the low-hanging lights, the polite servers, the bubbly friends and especially the delicious inexpensive feast easily earn this place 4 stars.

    Plus it's BYOB!

I think the night I ate here was the night I fell in love with Indian cuisine, believe it or not (for all you Royal Bangladesh dissers).

I will be visiting this place again, that's for sure!

  4. Extremely rude service at the door. You are clearly doing something wrong if you are trying so hard to hustle customers in but everyone is choosing to go upstairs.

The food is subpar, the only thing that would set Royal Bangladesh apart from the other restaurants is the outdoor sitting which is definitely not worth the bad service from start to finish and mediocre food.

  5. BYOB with a colorful atmosphere – good for a cheap night out.

This is an easy place to come without a reservation if you just want to have a tasty, affordable and unpretentious meal.

I have come here twice with girlfriends and enjoyed myself each time.  We like to each bring a bottle and stay until it's all gone!  The christmas lights make it festive all year round.  Service is prompt and they don't rush you out the door.

For 2 people, we ordered 3 main dishes and a garlic naan and the total for the table was $32!

    Notes on food:

    Pre-entree:
Papadam crackers that hit the table when you arrive – very tasty.
Even if you don't order the Meals for Two they bring out a side for the table – ours was lentils (nothing special but it helps to mix with the rice).
We got a friend banana and fried potato appetizer on the house.

    Main Dishes:
Chicken Tikka Masala not too creamy – perfect!
    Buttery spinach very good.
Spinach with chicken also very well spiced and not too heavy.

Mango icecream is usually free with dinner and this is a treat!  Very fragrant. Save a little space!

  6. only worth it if you get to sit outside in the big tent area.. then it's way pretty and fun, otherwise it's just cramped and annoying and you'll be hitting your head on the chili pepper lights all night. food is okay, but the real highlight is that they let you byob and sitting in the tent

** bonus story – i saw michel cera eating here once, which means this place has the hipster celeb stamp of approval!

  7. 3 stars because it averaged out that way….

4 stars for the decor, just the idea and the fact whoever it was went through with it. I mean seriously who's idea was it? Was the person like, hey I'm gonna open an indian restaurant and cover it in christmas lights, mixed season garland and while I'm at it, stick some huge vases with fake flowers in them in random spots? Oh & I bet he was short too, cause this 5'10" girl doesnt appreciate being hit with strings of lights when I walk to the bathroom……that being said…..

5 stars for the fact it's byob and after a bottle of wine, being smacked with christmas lights became kind of amusing….
*there is a store that sells alcohol right below the restaurant*

3 stars for the food…. but i mean, if you want really amazing 5 star indian food….ask yourself, why did you come here? did the decor not scream, hey I'm not a 5 star food establishment??
I recommend telling the waiter you want a chicken dish w/ creamy coconut sauce….i dont think it's on the menu but when I described what I was looking for, I got "yes , yes, I make that just for you!" score.

2 stars, sadly for the service. poor, rude, usually wrong, and almost non existent.  Each time we come here we have about 4 ppl waiting on us. After the 5th time on the last visit, that  I asked for a glass and some ice , he kept saying yes, but never brought it, so my b/f got up and got it for me himself. aww.

he dropped off a plate of rice that clearly wasnt ours as we had just sat down a few mins prior….he brought my ice glass to the table behind us …and my food was bordering on being cold. it was insanely hot & loud in there too. we felt a little rushed, and i heard a techno version of happy birthday about 10 times……given there was about 5-6 tables max…. it wasn't everybody's birthday in there,  take it off your i-pods repeat!

don't go for the food, go for the fun experience and the fact you can bring your own alcohol, no extra charge.  good bday spot!

  8. This place is A-OK in my book only because it's a byob spot in the city.  Everything else about this place is sub par…from the way the staff hustles to get you in at the front door, to the low ceiling basement that you have to walk through to get to the backyard, the food is bland and of low quality (I eat indian food daily).  Most of the staff is pushy and aggressive except for the younger waiters.  The price is decent.  This is probably the only byob spot I've been to in the city since there pretty rare, so just based on that…I have to give this place some props.
