Need a good diner to eat at in the Bronx? HERE IT IS!
After moving to the Bronx, i lamented the lack of food options especially really late at night and when I found this place, it was awesome!
I've been twice and both times have been a very good experience. the service and food were good.
food:
spinach and artichoke dip with chips/nachos – SO GOOD. i guess you can't really go too wrong with a spinach artichoke dip, but it was really good
regular salad – average.
spaghetti with veal and spinach, mushroom, tomato in a sauce over it (can't remember the name) – better than i expected, but not amazing. the sauce was interesting…
cheeseburger – patty was a bit dry
bacon cheeseburger with mozzarella cheese – better!
spaghetti in tomato sauce – not bad!
lasagna – pretty darn good and a nice sized portion
tiramisu for dessert – tasty but not a good tiramisu
waffles and ice cream on it – good.
I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants good diner food. Great stuff! But don't expect great italian food if you're here. let's be real. it's a diner. Little Italy isn't too far away anyways.
the fact that there is a parking lot (Free) so no street parking is great too.
Came here for brunch with my mom on a Saturday. It's pretty convenient that they have their own private parking lot. We were seated quickly, but our food took forever to come out. I ordered a western egg white omelette. They dropped a slice of my toast so they brought another set much quicker.
It's a pretty average diner, but the Bronx probably doesn't have as many of these kinds of places as NJ.
Having visited Royal Coach Diner with my mom a few years back, I figured I would give it a try again one Sunday morning when my fiance and I were looking for a place to have breakfast. Once we arrived we were promptly seated, even though there were plenty of people coming in and out of the restaurant. Our waitress was initially nice and receptive, but there was a mix-up that made what would've been an otherwise pleasant meal kind of awkward.
For religious and personal reasons, my fiance does not eat meat, but especially not pork. He ordered the vegetable omelet, even going as far as asking the waitress about what types of vegetables were in it. There was no confusion about which omelet he wanted. However, once the food arrived we realized there was ham all over his omelet. Once we brought it to our waitress' attention she promptly had another omelet made, and the wait wasn't too long at all. What was awkward though was that when we received our check it clearly said Western omelet rather than vegetarian. We assumed that the waitress probably clicked the wrong item when putting in the order (which is an innocent mistake) but she had made it seem to us like it was an issue in the kitchen.
Other than this mishap, the breakfast was good. I'd definitely go back at some point for breakfast because their omelets and home fries are decent, but I'm not too sure about any other meal.
I have a diner gene, being from Jersey and all. And I don't get how this one has 4 stars on average. It's in a shitty-ass area, not to mention their service sucks. Let me backtrack. I met someone for dinner, although I wasn't eating "dinner" in the traditional sense, just a soda and a snack. What better judge of a diner is disco fries (cheese and gravy fries). The fries were not good, and the cheese was so not melty and the gravy was probably the best part. Again, I wanted cheese AND gravy fries! Not just OK gravy. My partner had a ham and cheese omelet – it looked good as far as omelets go. But I had cheese fry odge for the rest of the night. As for as the service I thought our server was a dick. Never refilled our water or soda glasses. And never asked if we wanted dessert or anything like that. Douchecanoe, douchecanoe. Good thing I'm never in the Bronx, because luckily for me, I never have to come here again. (PS the cheese danishes and desserts in the display case…they looked good. I shoulda got take out but oh well)
It's hard to believe I hadn't been to this diner until recently since it's super accessible to me. Like many of my new dining adventures, I heard good things about this diner and decided to try it for myself.
Walking in, the decor was very nice – it's super clean and spacious. There are dark wood tones along with deep reds and silver chrome throughout the dining room. The staff was somewhat friendly and attentive, but it's a diner so you can't expect 5-star service; it's comparable to other diners in the Bronx.
Like most diners, the menu is extensive and they have a good selection of almost everything. The food is good, a slight step above other diners I've been to which makes it stand out amongst its peers. Their fries in particular are great – they're extra crispy (like twice fried) and definitely worth it to get them when you're here.
There are a few diners to choose from in the Bronx, and the Royal Coach is one of the better ones I've been to.
Just wanted to write an update since I've been coming here pretty frequently on a regular basis (I'm just too lazy to check in). Their veggie burger is actually not bad. They also have sweet potato fries for an additional charge!
This was my first time at this diner. The decor was blah blah blah, Who gives a shit what the decor looks like? After all it boils down to 3 things, the food, the customer service, and the cleanliness.
As soon as I walked through the first door the hostess immediately made eye contact with me. When I entered the diner she immediately sat me down. That was a great first impression.
Within seconds of sitting down I had water in my table and a menu. My waiter immediately greeted me and took my order. I ordered eggs and bacon. The speed in which my order came out made me wonder if it was sitting under some heat lamps. Nope, it was fresh and cooked perfectly and delicious. Oh, and the place was immaculate. No dirt or insects.
The only con I could think of is that this diner is far from my house. If I'm ever in the area again this place will definitely be my go to diner. Thanks for the wonderful experience.
I don't usually edit my reviews. But this time, editing my 5 stars rating was needed to let other patrons know the current quality of service of this establishment.
It's sad to say that Royal Coach's service and quality of food "slipped off".
This place used to be my fave spot in the Bronx for breakfast, but today's experience left much to be desired.
The service was slow. Here's the timing:
To place our order: 15 minutes (we closed our menus after 5 minutes as a signal)
To receive our beverages: additional 10 minutes.
To receive our lukewarm food: 20 minutes.
To receive our toasts after we've already eaten halfway through our meal: 10 minutes.
I'll have to find another Bronx diner to make my breakfast "spot".
