  1. Decided to check this out after hearing that it had some of the best pizza in New York and it did not disappoint. We ordered the Supreme pizza and it was incredible. The location is a tiny hole in the wall kind of outfit, but the food was amazingly good. I would highly recommend, it did not let down on the hype.

  2. It's been a while since I have been here but I've always wanted to come back. There are just SO MANY places in NY to try that makes it difficult.

However, I can tell you that I had a really great experience here. Pizza was on point because it is thin, just the way I like my pizza.

We also ordered a pasta that was made with squid black ink and I still dream about that pasta til this day.

Order the Black & White Tagliatelle ($18) made with clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, and calamari.

Definitely a dimly light and happening place. Good crowd. Be prepared to wait.

I can't wait to come back!

  3. We were in NYC for a 3 day eating fest.  I come to NY to eat.  Doesn't everybody?

Of all the nice places we dined at, Rubirosa was probably the highlight for me.  Nothing fancy, just a casual Italian restaurant but they do everything so well.

TIE-DYE PIZZA (5/5)  I could say a lot.  But I think this one of the best pizzas I've ever had.  It's right up there at the top.  So simple, but so good.  Every element was spot on, the sauce, the crust, the cheese.  Amazing.  I'm obsessed with this pizza. Trust me, I've been around the block when it comes to eating pizza.  I won't bore you with my Italian qualifications.  🙂

CALAMARI (5/5)  You can't make calamari better than this.  Batter was perfect, so fresh and lemony.

SIDE OF MEATBALLS W/SAUCE (4/5) These are pretty large, and they serve you three so be forewarned.  We ordered the Spaghetti w/Meatballs which came with meatballs.  Had we known that they were going to be this large, we wouldn't have ordered the side. But still, they were good.  Not better than my Italian mother's meatball, but enjoyable.

SPAGHETTI W/MEATBALLS (5/5)  The pasta is house-made, fresh.  This plate of spaghetti is the kind you find in Italy, down one of those narrow side streets.  The kind that makes you want to move to Italy, and change your nationality to Italian.  What can I say?  So simple and unassuming but spectacular.

I love this place.  It has become one of my favorite restaurants in NYC.  Highly recommend this place.  You will not be disappointed.

  4. We stopped in here for lunch on our way home.  It was a Sunday early afternoon, we were seated right away with no issues for not making a reservation.  We ordered some Arancini for an appetizer.  They were very tasty.  Just the right mixture of cheese and rice with a lighty crisped shell, served nice and hot with a side of sauce.   For my main dish I ordered the cheese ravioli's.  Large portion with a lot of sauce.  The sauce was thin and a little sweet, which is the way I prefer it.  One thing I did find odd, they don't offer you any bread.  I can't think of an Italian restaurant that doesn't offer or serve you fresh bread with your meal.  I think that would have made my meal a little better.  If I went back, I would try a pizza as they looked really good!

  5. Half Rubirosa Supreme and Half Tie Dye…all you need to know.

  6. My friend turned 26 this past Wednesday, and every year for her birthday we have a tradition of trying a new pizza place (thanks NYC for making that super easy). This year, we decided to try and get into Rubirosa. Unfortunately, as we decided this fairly late in the game, no reservations were available. However, after speaking to the restaurant, they were very confident that we would be able to get in for a party of 5.

My friend arrived at 6:15 to put our names down, and they told us the table would be ready in 90 minutes which turned out to be completely accurate. We bided our time with wine at balzem nearby.

Upon our entry to Rubirosa at 7:45, we were warmly greeted and led to a corner table. The restaurant was extremely dark – a little too much so to attribute to mood lighting but ok otherwise. Bethenny Frankel left a few minutes after we walked in which was a fun sighting, and overall we felt well taken care of there.

Between 5 of us, we ordered 2 appetizers, 2 of the smaller size pies, and a dessert. This turned out to be a perfect amount of food for our group, and the tie dye, classic and supreme pies (they do half and half!) were all very good.

Price is also fair – we got 2 bottles of wine in addition to the food listed above, and split the bill between 4 of us instead of 5 because of my friends birthday, and with tax and tip it came out to $50 per person.

Ultimately, this is a four star review because Rubirosa has been SO hyped up. I'm glad I tried it, but it's nowhere near the best pizza in NYC. The vodka pizza was good but not mind blowing, and overall while we had a nice time I don't quite understand how difficult it is to get in. I would not necessarily return to Rubirosa with all of the wonderful pizza available at my fingertips!

  7. I ordered the gluten free calamari and mozzarella sticks to go. Wow, they definitely don't taste gluten free and disgusting. While the price is reasonable, the portion that comes with it would prevent me from coming back, the employees seemed nice when I picked my food up.

  8. oh yea we got a pizza here….it's all coming back to me now. It was pretty good, thin Neapolitan style, pretty good, but not nothing to write home about.
